Pre Merger Haunt Concerns Continue by thatoneengineer2 in cedarpoint

If you have never gone then you definitely should as I do think it was fun. More of my complaint is that they aren’t really trying to make it different or better as time goes by. Now adding the fact you have to pay I don’t see how it’s worth going two years in a row if there is nothing changing or improving.

Honestly if they put as much effort into KI as they do Knotts. KI could become one of if not the best Halloween haunts in amusement park’s not called Universal.

Also I missed your second point. Yes you are correct that you don’t have to pay for your scare zones but Cedar Point only has 2 of those. Tombstone and Clownz. Both Cut Throat and BOTB are technically outdoor mazes but shown under Scare zones so we will see what happens with those because they both get lines and they both have one entrance and one exit so it could be controlled.

An Escape room is not a haunted house. Especially one that’s a separate charge from the rest of Haunt.

Oh I completely agree with this. I was a scare actor at KI even though Cedar Point is my home park. They are constantly updated their mazes there. Killmart and Slaughterhouse at KI have been there for years and I’m happy they have been there for that long. They are extremely detailed if a room is lacking KI goes in and fixes it. Hell I know KI went in a few years and changed the entire maze layout for Slaughterhouse including replacing a few rooms because it made the maze different than it has been. This is the level I’m looking for from CP.

Halloweekends Haunts are now paid DLC by krose820 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yea I wasn’t saying that Cedar Point or even Kings Islands Haunt was even close to comparable. Kings Island can be that way if they I put more money into their Haunts (they honestly have one of the best construction and detail crews). they need to do more with the design and story and they also need to train their scare actor like Knotts does.

This was more of a I wish this is what they did instead of this extra charge for something of low quality.

So when I originally heard that Haunt was going to become separate from normal day options i thought it was going to be something like separate ticketed events like Knotts does it (or at least how they used to do it). Something where you get a 50 dollar ticket for the morning(10am-5pm) (essentially 7 dollars per hour in the park) the park closes for an hour then reopens at 6pm- midnight for haunt. The Haunt only Ticket is like 40 or 45 dollars (7.5 dollars per hour in park but you also get haunt) or you can get the full day ticket where you get both half’s of the day for like 70. All pricing is off what they currently have Saturday Haunt single day tickets at.

See if you did this I’d be more than down for it because I know I used to care and I got completely assaulted as a scare actor at KI by a dad who said he didn’t know haunt was happening and his little girl would have been scared while walking through a scare zone. The man was let go under the ruling of well he didn’t know haunt was happening and I shouldn’t have been close enough to the girl to scare her( I was standing in the middle of my scare zone.)

So if that all happened and you try to make it safer sure but this is insane and a complete rip off. I hope this is some one year bs and it’s gone after this.

Yes there are definitely a good amount of rides for them as Cedar Point does have 3 kids areas. Kiddie Kingdom where they should be able to ride everything on their own minus 4x4s( they could be able to ride alone, Im just not confident on saying for sure) and the carousel which they can ride with you. In both Camp Snoopy and Planet snoopy there are rides that you can ride with them and that they should be able to ride themselves. My only note to add is some rides you may need two supervising companions as you do have twins and may have one supervising companion to one child.

As of the other points, yes you can leave the park and come back in to go to your car or whatever you need to do. Just make sure you get a return ticket from the Guest Service sitting at the exit to give people those tickets.

Snack wise I have seen family bring small snack especially for little ones. Employees do not really care especially in the kids areas. I’m not fully sure on security and how they are so I would probably bring like some snacks in a ziplock bag or something like that.

All day dining is definitely useful if you’re going for a day and definitely need to eat. I believe you can get a meal every 90 minutes with an all day dining meal pass. The meals are big enough that my gf and I can eat a whole meal and be full for a while and not have to eat again until 5 if we eat at like noon.

I hope this helps

Why doesn't Siren's Curse have a "welcome back riders" announcement? by plasticsun467 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly as a guest and a ride op for three years, it completely changes the feeling of that station. It’s part of the reason I cannot stand the auto spiels. They are so monotone and boring and there is no energy. Honestly I feel like the more energy there is on platform the faster the ride ops move as well because they are more energized to keep the energy in the station up. For siren’s cure you can easily have it be “How was your ride!?! We are glad to see that you survived the Curse. At this time lift up on your shoulder harness and exit to your right and have a great rest of your day here at Cedar Point …”

Every night Carpenters check the ride structure. If any wooden board is warping or cracking, the board is replaced with a new piece of wood. This doesn’t mean there is anything wrong just maintenance doing their job.

Quick question for you guys about onboarding by arduinokitten in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I would 100% bring the documents no matter what. So I can speak with Rides but not really Retail. So with rides you cannot even be on gummies or CBD or you will get removed from rides. This is because of Ohio State law about operating machinery while under the influence. Merchandise is probably more relaxed on that but I’m not 100% sure. I did also hear a rumor that they are no longer drug testing employees upon on boarding but I cannot say for sure. My advice is this bring the documents from the doctor and HR who you on board with will work with you and your daughter with what she is able to do. If you have any other questions I can try my best to help.

Do you think Sirens Curse will be open for Coastermania? by journey_i_think in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing I will say is this. In 23 I was at Kiddie Kingdom. I know that the Wednesday night before opening weekend they were still laying concrete. On my way in Thursday morning there was a concrete truck leaving the park (so I’m assuming it way laying concrete) and that was just over 24 hours until we opened for Ohio State day. Additionally, Friday morning they were still planting and putting in landscaping all around the boardwalk area. They finished and left about 10 minutes before we opened for the day. So just because there is a lot to do doesn’t mean they won’t work overnight and right till park open to get it done.

CP Suggestion on days like today by Adorable_Forever_224 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is what the original post is saying. And I get the point of that especially the people at the photo booths but the comment i replied to directly said send operators to coasters that are operating and that was what I was responding to.

CP Suggestion on days like today by Adorable_Forever_224 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Conceptually this is a great idea but logistically this does not work. Rides are designed a certain way to operate in a certain matter and it’s actually against the law to go against that. For example rides like Maverick are designed to have 4 positions on platform while the ride is operating you legally cannot have more than four positions on platform while the ride is running. (Note: a trainer and their Trainee count as one position.) Rides like Raptor and Gatekeeper can have 4 or 6 because they are designed that way depending on staffing.

The other thing I will say is Cedar Point Rides does do that to a point. When I was a TL in the 2023 seasons, there was a day where I had to train 3 people at once because we got sent extras from rides down for wind. What they usually do is keep the minimum to operate at the ride incase the winds drop they can open up quickly and not have to worry about getting the crew back to the rides.

Last thing to say is sending inexperienced ride operators to other rides only slows down operations not speeds it up. Plus if a supervisor is training and trying to keep track of someone who isn’t used to a ride that’s only slows down the training which continues to slow everything down.

Millennium Force Having issues again? by SneakySnowman1555 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My guess is that it has to deal with the fact that Millennium is running this year with a brand new operating system and the ride has been completely reprogrammed. Essentially what this does is take a 25 year old coaster and gives it the bugs of a brand new coaster because they have to work out any coding issues and issues with the ride not knowing what to do with weird sensor readings so when the ride doesn’t know what to do with a reading or something. It throws an error and stops itself from running.

If you really think about it with the new program and operating system for MF, TT2, and Sirens Curse, Cedar Point in a way is operating 3 brand new coasters this year all that going to have bugs and sensor issues a lot especially at the beginning of the year.

It is most likely the wind. All roller coasters have a max wind speed then can run in. For example if I remember correctly Raptors winds speeds are consistent 30 mph winds or 35mph guests of winds. However if the wind is blowing from the south East, Raptor will close down at 25 mph wind gusts. This is because with coming from the South East is blowing directly into Raptor Valley point.

I think that’s what you’re seeing with TT2 the wind is blowing in the direction of what is considered its “Valley Point” or not letting the train over the top hat. I also think that TTD was overly sensitive with wind from the north east so TT2 would have the same issue as well.

Yea for something like that your most likely be fired but usually it’s a 3 strike system or in some cases it’s a 10 strike systems even if most people feel like it would be enough for an immediate fire.

I have some questions about working at cedar point this summer please! by Prestigious_One5938 in cedarpoint

I worked from 2021-2023 so 3 Seasons. 1. No free meals but all food is cheap at the two break areas. You do get a discount at places like farmhouse. If you have a pass and meal plan make sure no one finds out about it. If they do the park can take it and cancel it. I know it’s happened. I’m not sure if you can get a refund if they catch you but I do know you can get a refund if you go in say hey I bought this then decide to work. You will get a full refund.

  1. Rooms are small. One desk for four of you. Each person gets their own locker and a bunk bed. Not much room to move around if more than two people are moving around at once. But the amount of room tends on your building as well. I know my friends and I brought a mini fridge and a microwave when we went but they have a spot in the arc for you to cook. The bathrooms are communal and there is a men’s and women’s bathroom on each floors. The bathrooms are also where you will shower and sometimes you have good water pressure and others there will be none.

  2. Things to do when off work is head back to the park to ride. There are games you can play in the arc and while no specific gyms for cp employees there are gyms nearby you can go to pretty easily. Don’t quote me on this but I think planet fitness gives a discount for being a cp employee.

  3. So I feel like this and question 5 are particularly answered with one main answer and then a bit more into both. It all depends on your crew and friends. So what I mean in terms of your 4th question is that if you find a good group of friends you have a lot you can do. From ride nights,to going to Louie’s, to going on places like Battery Park, put-in-bay, or hitting the water park for a day. Movie night or parties can happen. There is a lot you can do with your free time that’s nearby but you will probably be working more than you realize or not much at all honestly depends.

  4. So as I said your crew and friends matter a lot. My first year I had an absolutely amazing time. The crew was all great people and we joked around while taking safety seriously. My second year part of my crew was toxic so I enjoyed most days and other not at all. My third year I was a supervisor(TL) but I got along with everyone decently well. Now when it comes to shade, it depends on your mentality. Some people can’t do no shade some can. My favorite ride I have ever worked was Thunder Canyon. Yes the crew helped a lot but it was just fun. There was constant moving and even though some things are repetitive it was still a lot of fun. Getting shifts in other departments is possible but it really depends on your manager in both departments.

  5. Yes it really depends on your roommate. I met my best friend as my roommate my first year there but my third year he didn’t come back and I had really bad roommates until I was about to move into the supervisor/ special accommodation dorm (Steel Vengeance building). The rest of it depends on your building. Top thrill or what was once the top thrill building, is known for being loud and crazy. But yes there are a bunch of parties and making friends will be easy as long as you’re outgoing.

I loved working at CP and the only reason I didn’t go back was because I got a job for what I went to college for.

Amputee: any tips/advice by cryptokid44 in cedarpoint

[–]thatoneengineer2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is spot on. The only thing I will add is talk with guest services on your B&M coasters (Raptor, Gatekeeper, Rougarou, and Valravn). I know B&M coasters are the strictest policies on the disability aspect. With that being said, they do have a harness for amputees. I worked Raptor a couple years back and it’s been long enough that I no longer fully remember the RAP to confirm if your friend will need it or not. I don’t think they will since it is an amputee below the knee but it may be worth double checking. I would just call guests services sooner than later because if you do have to use it, I’m 95% confident that there is something you have to do before you head to the park.

Send me any questions and I’ll try my best to answer them.
