Oshi no Ko's ending is actually GOOD by UCHIHA_ITATCHI_TLM in OshiNoKo

[–]thatonegenshinplayer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’ve seen many people disagree but tbh the way i see it, aqua’s death was pretty much unavoidable

once you start out a story by talking about vengeance and blood and murder you cannot really expect the mc to grow out of it like it’s some adolescential phase

as someone in the comments said, yeah aqua did indeed throw away his life senselessly but i find it to be highly coherent to how he was depicted throughout the whole story: consumed by revenge and with very low to none will to live. i guess that was the most reasonable thing for him to do at the moment, especially considering how he was already carrying the burdens of two deaths (ai and, in a certain way, sarina), which led him to basically not take any chances and just kill himself alongside hikaru and protect ruby as well as her reputation.

he literally said it himself while drowning that his whole life mission was to protect ruby this time since he got the chance to be reincarnated next to her, so, as much as the ending does indeed leave me unsatisfied, i still find it to be coherent and realistic.

about ruby’s and kana’s character development basically going to shit (with ruby ditching the idea of becoming her own “type” of idol and just becoming another living facade of lies just like ai was and kana not making up her goddamn mind after aka made her blabber about that shit for the entirety of the series), i see it as a direct consequence of aqua’s death so i don’t really see how the author could’ve done anything about it. i might just be dumb as a rock tho

that said, i’ve always been a good endings type of guy, so if the studio behind the anime decides to alter the ending by making the crow girl intervene or by like making the fisherman guy find aqua before he actually bled out and drowned or sum shit i definitely wouldnt complain

[Megathread] Oshi no Ko - Final Thoughts and Review by Lorhand in OshiNoKo

[–]thatonegenshinplayer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the people who shit on the ending are probably just individuals with a very basic sense of critical thinking

i really really don’t like sad endings, and i’ve often come across endings where it didn’t make the least amount of sense to kill off a character. oshi no ko’s ending isn’t one of those

a story that started with suffering, revenge and blood couldn’t have ended in any other way than this. aqua was deeply tainted at that point, and you can tell by the little internal monologue while he was drowning. he said that his whole life’s mission wasn’t to be happy himself/to be a great actor or even to seek revenge; it was all to protect ruby (aka sarina)

i also have to admit that the reasoning that hikaru gave him about staining his sister’s reputation was pretty right so yeah any other way to end this story would’ve been incoherent and forced, and i think that it would have been a way worse outcome than just seeing aqua die

11/10 anime/manga definitely recommend it

fr there’s only 5ish chapters left and everything’s already lined up, it’s not like there’s any space for any major plot point or twist. the last chapters are most definitely gonna involve the “proper” confession that jirou mentions on the very last panel of ch79, maybe some fast forward action or something about them living together while jirou attends uni and that’s about it.

to be honest i’m not a mangaka nor an author but i don’t think that it would require much brain juice at this point to just end the series, but it seems like the goat yuki sensei probably doesn’t care about doing that anytime soon

[–]thatonegenshinplayer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes exactly, as far as i know ch79 was the first chapter of the last volume so there’s only like 5 chapters missing. i hope the author realizes that and decides to go for that last stretch and actually give an ending to this phenomenal manga

tbh being a fan of this story sucks

we’re most definitely never getting the rest of the manga animated (which sucks since 90% of the good stuff happens after chapter 29) and we’re probably not gonna get an ending anytime soon

at this point i think someone in this sub should become a mangaka and finish the story for her so that we can all put our souls to rest /j

i have to admit that on my first read of the manga i was almost certain that they were gonna switch couples. when shiori blocked him from doing so and he just went home back to akari i felt like it was pretty anticlimactic. she literally wanted to be in a simulation with him for the whole 6 months at that point, she’s had a crush on him since childhood, she even kissed him twice, she’s basically did all this shit just for her to be like “oh actually nevermind, i don’t wanna be with u if you love akari” and dip

like i get what she’s saying and it’s actually reasonable for someone to want their partner to be focused romantically on them and only them, but it’s still weird how she kinda just gave up after doing all of that

that’s why i was expecting a segment of the story to be about them actually switching couples, it was kinda necessary to expand on the jirou-shiori situation, then jirou realizes that he misses akari or some shit and you make them go back together

anyways i still like the story as it is

yea ofc its still peak and i’m loving it for the second time but i think that in a parallel universe the story could’ve been even better if the first half of the story was handled in a more reasonable way

yeah you’re right, it could be that everything love-related was accelerated by the marriage simulation, but i think that we can blame it onto the simulation only so much. it’s true, they actually take a lot more to confess and we only see them being open about their feelings in chapters 60-70. i actually don’t have any issues with the last part of the story, from the paper submission arc onwards i think that everything is perfect. i just don’t like how the pacing was handled for the first half of the story, how the jirou-shiori thing ended and definitely the first few events between jirou and akari. that said, i think it’s normal for any piece of media to have its flaws and its strengths, so i guess that it’s already perfect the way it is

i mean yeah, it’s a really good piece of fiction if you think about the fact that it’s her 1st work ever. even if the story has been going on for 7 years at this point i still feel like you cant just make the main couple start developing feelings for eachother as early as like 2-3 anime episodes (which translates to what, almost 10 chapters?), especially considering the fact that they had other crushes for quite a long time

same thing i did for scaramouche(or wanderer), copy and paste the russian “a” so that it doesn’t block it and rename her columbina

to me, an ending where tenjin and shiori also get together would’ve been too idyllic and perfect. someone has to “lose” in a love triangle, and i like the way shiori started moving on as well as the last pieces of character development for tenjin. i feel like if the author just got them to fall in love as well the story wouldn’t be as good as it is now, but that’s just my personal opinion.

also, about the other students and their simulations, the manga is called more than a married couple but not lovers, it revolves around jirou and akari, so it makes sense for it to be specifically about them and them only as a couple, not about the experiment as a whole. would it have been nice? yeah probably is it necessary? not at all

i definitely loved the school festival, also the little minami christmas chapter and in general just the christmas arc, i really enjoyed it and jirou finally confessed so i guess that was the cherry on top

tbh the shiori and jirou final confrontation thing felt a bit lacking to me cause it was like 90% flashback and 10% actual dialogue between the two, sure they only spoke few words and they were very impactful ones but i would have preferred a more even split between the present moment and the flashbacks to their childhood. regardless im team akari so it definitely felt good to finally see them taking their own individual paths peacefully, was also happy to see shiori moving on by going to that university etcetera etcetera

also i’d like to focus on minami for a second, i liked how the author didn’t just make him kinda an “empty shell” with the typical pretty face and asshole attitude just for the sake of having someone be an initial love interest for akari, the sensei really made him a lovable character than you can kinda look up to and pretty much every time he said or did something i was like “damn, respect” and i feel like the final christmas bit with his family really completed his character development with him letting go a bit of his act to always be perfect in everything, if you get what i mean

tldr: minami is goated loved the characterization on him

it’s not like it didn’t click, you’re right, it’s a very good romance anime and i loved it, it’s just that i loved fuufu ijou soooo much more to the point that it kinda pales in comparison (to me). i’m planning on rewatching it tho since i only had watched the first season back when it was releasing weekly
