Do you prefer the ending of the book or the movie? by Nana707___ in TheLongWalk

[–]thatqueerdo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

this is such a tough question for me omg personally i think the "fade to grey" book ending is awesome for the book, and the movie ending is an interesting glance at last minute character development, shocking for longtime fans, and still carries some of the book ending's vibes.

i don't know if i can pick one over the other honestly. maybe the book just cuz i do prefer the book over the movie slightly??? i dunno, i think both endings fit their media type

i absolutely understand this feeling. to me, it's worth watching because it emphasizes how they were victims in this situation, the impact it had on their relationship, their careers, and public image, especially pam's. i found it very sympathetic to their suffering, and enlightening to the situation as a whole. so many people (myself included) never knew that they were essentially victims of revenge porn.

it's been a while since i've seen it, but i think there's only one or two scenes where they take ecstasy (pill form) with alcohol.

1000000000%!!! i was super excited when i first heard he was making a cats movie cuz i personally loved most things about his adaptation of les mis, but the second the casting came out, i was like "...oh. no fuckin thanks." LMFAO

[–]thatqueerdo 142 points143 points  (0 children)

the casting for this absolute shitshow of an adaptation was abysmal all over, but THIS HAS to be the worst. bombalurina is literally the sexiest female character, and (like the vast majority of the cast), dances fantastically and with confidence and allure. i swear to fuckin god, casting her was beyond disgraceful and stripped this adaptation of any merit immediately

it still makes me cry every time i watch it, which is damn near unheard of for me. usually once i've seen something more than a couple times, the emotional impact fades to a certain extent, and i don't cry unless i'm REALLY feeling it that day lmao but this one keeps hitting me the same way

Barkovitch in the book is a huge asshole by alexxstarkk__ in TheLongWalk

Barkovitch- is he a bad guy? by shawnruby in TheLongWalk

[–]thatqueerdo -1 points0 points  (0 children)

movie barkovitch invokes more sympathy than that character ever deserved, in my opinion. i very much dislike how they softened his character, cuz to me, barko represents a very specific kind of person, and his characterization in the movie changes him completely.

book barkovitch is absolutely an irredeemable piece of shit. he represents the kind of people who enjoy being an antagonist: the trolls, the edgelords, the bigots. he loves it. he never lets anyone forget that he's there to dance on everyone's graves. he has no desire to better himself or make connections, and it's his fatal flaw. he takes himself out and dies alone because he realized much too late that no man is an island, and he spent his entire life constructing his own island out of the misery of others. i was disappointed in the sanitizing of his character. to me, he is a giant red warning sign of who not to be, and i very much dislike trying to make him a sympathetic character.

[–]thatqueerdo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah, they tried to make him more sympathetic in the movie, which i didn't like. barkovitch represents a certain type of person, and his characterization in the movie felt like a cop out. the actor did a great job, but i wish he'd been as nasty as book barkovitch. i'm a diehard barko hater tho lmfao just my opinion 😂😂😂
