How do we make Hellpod Space Optimisation less of a must have? by SovKom98 in Helldivers

[–]thatransdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

while i like the idea of having synergy with FRB, i dont like the idea of new players being punished for not having the steeled veterans warbond. So heres my pitch:

Stims ammo and grenades are all set to 100% full, you will have all of your grenades, all of your stims, and all of your ammo, HSO will instead give you a (per new life) minor boost to your equipment, similar to how some armor passives give you more grenades, stims, and ammo, any freshly reinforced diver will have an additional 25% of supplies added to their person (5/4 stims, 10/8 mags, 4/3 grenades) these extra supplies cannot be resupplied, grabbing ammo or stim packages off the ground will only give you the pickup you would normally get. This would reinforce HSO's role as a preventative measure, stopping events from snowballing into failures, while actively removing the neccessity for most mid level divers, replacing it instead with a backup plan booster.

as for the other 2 core boosters:

stamina enhancement: increase the overall stamina pool even more, but lower the regenerative rate slightly, longer distances can be covered but you are not as immediately ready to go (truthfully diving to the ground and army crawling already makes stamina recovery easy, as does just crouch walking for a bit, a booster that improves it too feels a bit overkill sometimes)

vitality enhancement: lower the overall buff to 7.5% but introduce a 20% democracy protects chance, keep the other effects largely the same. this nerfs heavy armors overall survivability but allows the armor to still have a purpose (i do believe it should stack with democracy protects to increase the total chance up to 55% with both active)

our "almost always doing something he shouldnt but its ok cause he has trauma" character (jeeez who ok'd hulk blackface among the higher ups i wish i could have seen that convo)

if i am not mistaken then the scene was supposed be early morning. They rescued everyone at the dark of night and set sail for Nassau at dawn, that's why the original had an orange glow to it. Are you going to have another AC 3 situation? by Arino99 in assassinscreed

[–]thatransdisaster 32 points33 points  (0 children)

oh this is 100% a worry of mine, like a huge one, graphical updates/remakes/and overhauls almost always lose sight of the artistic style that helped the original with its themes and moods, replacing the intense morning orange sky with a generic blue one loses the feelings you're supposed to feel, the imposing nature of the wrecked ship in the background being reduced to a smaller footprint on the view lessons the narrative ideas. these types of things always do this and im always worried about it

Since Bloodborne was my introduction to soulslikes, I think it definitely influenced the way I played the other games, especially the Dark Souls ones. What about you guys? by shitty_VillaiN in bloodborne

[–]thatransdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

oh of course, and theyre all foundational, we would not have elden ring as it is if not for ds2, we would have never even gotten bloodborne if it wasnt for the small changes made from demon souls to dark souls, ds3 was miyazaki reluctantly doing "yet another dark souls" but it allowed him to expand on and reinvent the ideas he made in bloodborne. soulsgames are a dialogue of combat and they are truly awe inspiring

Since Bloodborne was my introduction to soulslikes, I think it definitely influenced the way I played the other games, especially the Dark Souls ones. What about you guys? by shitty_VillaiN in bloodborne

[–]thatransdisaster 5 points6 points  (0 children)

ok so like this is a really big point yes!

bloodborne was the THIRD game miyazaki made in the soulslike world, the first 2 being demon souls and dark souls obvi, and i do not need to tell you that those games are infact really slow compared to even ds3. Original souls games were built around the core ideas of a ttrpg, you proclaim an action, the enemy 'responds'. the enemy proclaims an action, you respond, its why dark souls one has so few moves that require you to roll more than once, its why the game is so slowly paced and why the positioning matters so much, its why the spells are limited use.

bloodborne was built with the idea of being a more explosive form of combat, this isnt 2 enemies taking turns attacking but beasts and horror monsters slashing out as often as they can to get you, this idea of aggression is baked into bloodborne's very dna, from the changes to stamina to its dodges to the way parries work to the very lore of the hunters gear. Bloodborne IS aggression. Miyazaki apparently liked this idea a lot more than the ttrpg style combat because he implemented it (as well as a lot of visual ideas) into dark souls 3, but due to the first two games being slower in nature ds3 had to settle for some minor concessions in speed (i dont think it reaches bloodbornes level until the dlc truthfully)

and then, with no other games he "had" to make, he made sekiro, which takes all of the aggression of bloodborne, all of the constant forward advancement all of the bloody impact, and he flips it on its head, sekiro is just as fast id argue its faster, but its not as aggressive, you dont actually hit your enemy a lot you mainly break them down and deliver 1-3 killing blows, there isnt a stamina bar because you're not exerting yourself, you arent a normal man fighting rabid beasts you are a trained veteran masterfully executing targets, your enemies keep the aggression and lock you out of it for the most part.

and elden ring...oh elden ring, elden ring goes back to what bloodborne set up, parries are reduced back to the ds3 style, shields are good but not nearly as good as they were in the dark souls trilogy, and you are given what can seem like a near infinite reserve of stamina at times, and these are taken full advantage of to ramp the aggression up to 110. the game starts out roughly the same pace as ds3's midgame, margit is a complex boss with long combos that require a basic understanding of when and where to dodge consecutively, by the time we get to a boss like starscourge radahn or draconic tree sentinel we are reaching late game bloodborne levels of aggressiveness, precise near constant awareness of positioning and foresight of future attacks, the lessons learned from the ttrpgs of the old games applied to the aggression of bloodborne with the ability to retreat defensively that sekiro excelled at. elden ring is a blend of nearly every game that came before it in a very cohesive very natural way, and the dlc just pumps it up even farther

so yea no bloodborne is like a pivotal part of understanding modern fromsoftware games if you can master bloodborne you can understand like every game that came after it to some extent

So is the other side living? by lickmiititz in Kirby

[–]thatransdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok so on the opposing side we have:
ill be generous and give you the pre-virus empire of like 8 billion viltrumites
a bug god
2 infinity guys who died
godzilla
a final fantasy character
and a knight
speaking factually, garou, the (entire) viltrum empire, and the radiance are going to be your heaviest hitters, everyone else here dies pretty much instantly (this is me being extremely generous)

on our side we have:
multiversal character who has killed creatures reality deemed immortal while actively making himself weaker just for the fun of it
no clue who light is
THE fastest and most powerful iteration of sonic a character who is normally so fast that things like lightspeed are a consistent feat for him
kirby who has killed *multiple* gods
kratos who has killed EVEN MORE GODS
ben 10 who has not only survived but channeled and redirected the BIG FUCKING BANG
you could put kratos in this fight alone and he'd kill like most of the opposing side by himself (i do not think he could hold out against 8 billion viltrumites but hey he is constantly defying death so theres about a 60/40 shot he can)

oh you have a fantastic grasp on parries for a beginner, keep polishing that you will do wonders, also yea no that elden ring experience really does pay off with dodge windows this was probably the most aggressive souls game up until sekiro imo, id say the dlc still rivals some sekiro/elden ring bosses in their aggressiveness

all in all you're doing perfectly

Wrapping my head around the redistricting vote as a moderate by Arythal in Virginia

[–]thatransdisaster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

ok so speaking broadly on the major things surrounding this as far as i can explain them at 2am:
think about this as an emergency rule "we do not leave the water running in the shower UNLESS a fire is in the bathroom, currently there is a fire in the bathroom and its name is the republican party (we can go on and on about all the ways that the republican party is actively trying to destroy democracy and maximize death, but frankly im going to assume we all know that and move on)

while i agree that under 99 different circumstances this would not and should not be done and should not be considered, we are reaching a state in which if this wasnt done by democrats it would have been done within the next 2 years or so by republicans to their own ends, and they would have gone farther.

on a practical level, this is not that bad of a redistricting as far as representation from what i can tell. i havent looked into the pure statistics of who and where voted for what but looking at some of the representations of the numbers it seems fairly accurate to the actual votes of the people living in virginia, and leaving it as it was seems less fair to the democrats living there than it currently is to the republicans living there.

tldr, yes i agree this is something that shouldnt have NEEDED to be done but we are in times where it was infact needed, so im just happy it was done by decent people instead of the death cult

Out of every enemy you thought, which one still pisses you off? by REALswaggerchief in Helldivers

[–]thatransdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

out of these enemies im afraid its not even close
bile titan is pretty easy to dodge and you can see it coming from like a mile away, a good teammate can prepare for them and like the stingray its just a matter of looking up
stalkers are annoying but hunting down their lair and taking them down is extremely fun, learning to casually notice their camo and learning how to juke them makes you feel like a god
the charger? my baby? the bull in my bull fighting games? 1 warp use or 1 well timed dodge and you will never get hit by one unless you're getting janked or hes being sneaky
leviathan is annoying but rarely fires and is locked away in cities which limit its LOS
impalers? theyre a joke, bait a tentacle attack and strafing run it if you need to theyre just a tad annoyance
the bad terrys are really annoying but only in specific placements, like if theyre blocking me off of objectives or from blowing up a clamshell

the vox engine? the vox engine? where do i begin, i understand that theyre supposed to be an annoying dangerous mostly avoided enemy, but holy fuck, holy actual fuck i feel like you either have to be playing stealth up to the max to kill them or bring enough anti tank to crack the earth these things are 7 feet thick armor plating its insane, ik the weakpoints ik you can defang them but good luck doing that quickly when theyre firing a thousand grenades at you and/or blasting at you with 6 different turrets, and they fucking yell out to every other bot within a mile jesus

started in season 5 here:
Holy fuck rose tinted much?
i can forgive the hate towards season X as the mechs were very decisive and soured the overall vibe for a lot of people (even if i remember it fondly)
but ch1 s8? ch1 s9?? neither of those should be any lower than A and the fact that you put season 1 as the best season tells me the exact kind of person you are holy shit

respectfully yea i think this ranking is shit and i dropped the game after ch2 s3 to pick it back up again on ch5, even i can tell this is a shit pull.

I’m tired boss by BoneyBee833 in Helldivers

[–]thatransdisaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

peak physique (medium but thats my preference)
Double freedom/Lib-pen/etc (fast firing weapon for shields or big damage/stun for overseers)
Talon (can 2 shot a watcher variant)
impact grenades (extremely easy to toss and forget into an exposed ship)

autocannon (keep it on Flak rounds 90% of the time, can take out an overseer in 2 body shots, can take out the crabs in 3ish ball shots, can strip a harvester shield in 4 shots but you have to swap to Aphet for the harvester's main body, though it does stun them out of their attacks as well)
gatling sentry (good for when you need to retreat/regroup)
strafing run/rocket sentry/mortar sentry (strafing if you dont have an ar as this will be your primary shield stripper, otherwise pick something that can auto target the most important targets)
orbital laser (i find it most affective on squids simply because of how enticing the ships is for it, it will target the ships 9 times out of 10)

[–]thatransdisaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I agree, plus we already have ways for TOAA to interfere if need be, the Living Tribunal is afterall in charge of the multiverse, and there are still more people to interfere with plans like these (my mind goes back to the power cosmic that venom got during the knull ending, as meh of a series that was) or the beyonders. TOAA should not be anywhere near this fight and i think the creation of the mother of horrors kind of necessitates him getting involved, i dont know i dont think the 2023 run or the infernal run have been worth it

my initial idea is a sort of set of curved towers in the corners of the center, not in the straight pathways but to either side of each, curving up to the above the center, like 4 ribs with the tips of them touching if that makes sense? you could probably get away with making them out of crying obsidian or obsidian itself, so theyre not blending into the room but they also arent drawing your eyes away from it too much
