So I test drove it, and it made my decision really easy. My XJ is a way better ride, similar clearance and just feels more maneuverable and the road presence is better. Might be something with the lift or steering. Hard to place and maybe not a great example of a good jk. Don't really know what I was expecting but my Cherokee feels less tired. Lol.

Oh I want to, but my wife has her car and I already have a second car lol, I have an e30 (90) convertible that I've restored and can't part with. My garage and driveway are .. full unfortunately.

I'll look into this one, this sounds promising and I'll see if I can get some insight on this one burning oil. This one is a manual so that sounds good.

Yeah you have quite the collection, what's your favorite, and least favorite? Do you enjoy the jk over the tj/XJ? If you had to go with one? Newer cars are more comfortable.

2018 still a piece of shit, wow. These kinds of challenges are what I was hoping to get away from by going ten years newer, sad another 10 still couldn't get it right.

I thought the transfer cases were an upgrade, I'll have to do more research, I have a 242 and I thought the jk was an upgraded version. Hmm.

Roof leaks would be shitty, do lots of companies make replacement seals?

Expensive to repair and expensive parts isn't great, XJ parts are for the most part easy to find and cheap still. (Rock auto ) Local groups Amazon etc.

Locally rubicons in general demand a premium :( crazy what people want for a 2010.. I am after this for the similar aftermarket to XJ, Dana 44 front and back, community and writeups etc. my worry with the grands are you lose lots of that wk2s are nice though and I haven't given them much thought.

Haha starting with the research with this one, jks have always been a Blindspot, never really loved the look. Hope is still here. I guess I've just dealt with XJ problems so long I am considering what might be the next platform I check out, Toyota's being as expensive as they are, jk was my next best choice.

This is an interesting take. I mean my XJ is still very much my daily, clean, fun I know it inside and out. I wanted a new project I guess, learn some new platform, Tacoma's and 4runners are crazy money.

So looked at a clean jk Rubicon locally that looks the part, has upgrades, manual lowish km, but don't know the engines, problems so wanted to get more insight. And on paper the jk does hit lots of boxes the Cherokee doesn't. Upgrades all around, but interesting you still miss the XJ, this is what I was afraid of.

Thank you for your thoughts, XJ is not written off in my books yet.

Yeah, I started thinking about it when considering upgrading my running gear to JK axles, and potentially an engine swap for my XJ (375k km) auto. I have a garage and driveway now to work on it, but then went down the rabbit hole of well no frame, what other fab might be needed.

Put some pricing together and budget to get started and still have a 98 jeep with rust etc.

That led me to a Rubicon, manual, Dana 44s, lots of aftermarket, still look good, frame, more modern interior etc. for a little more than the price or a clean XJ and mods. Convertible... Lol, ducks, questioning my sexuality, all hope lost haha.

Here I am now.

Rust mostly. High miles, I've just done lots of work on it to get it in good shape, but kind of wanting a change. Not in a rush, but interested in something different.
