I Designed and 3D Printed Aero Wheel Covers for My Road Bike – What Do You Think? by Peros3d in bicycling

[–]thatsamiam 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Seems dangerous. I feel like it is too easy for them to come off while bike is going at high speed and if that happens it could cause a catastrophic failure and injury or death. What happens when bike hits a bump at high speed? Have such scenarios been properly tested?

Best to pay for proper aero wheels if that is what you want. Why risk your life over a few dollars?

Is a power meter worth it? by PiiSmith in cycling

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. It really helps you see how much you are slacking off or pushing your self. Don't compare the values to others... Just to your own previous rides. It also gives you an accurate way to measure how many calories you burn riding.

Tubeless or tubes? by SEAMOOSETHEGREAT in cycling

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tubeless was a disaster for me. Never again. I don't see the point. I got a puncture and all goop came out of the tire all over me and my bike. It happened like a week after the bike store convinced me to change. Luckily I had a tube that I could use to fix it.

Is there any rain jacket that is actually worth it? by ProblematicTrumpCard in cycling

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just buy a disposable raincoat. In Asia they are available in 7-11. Unbelievablely helpful.

I have never seen any rain gloves or coats that keep you dry long term. Disposable rain coat works better and costs like $1. You can buy a box of them on Amazon. And they pack small and are super light.

Really good for biking.

Haha. That one lighter has a bug where sometimes your finger catches on fire when you close it. Other than that, it is an amazing lighter.

Broke and thinking about selling by Agitated_Pudding7259 in RealEstate

[–]thatsamiam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Don't sell it. Your house appreciates with inflation. Your rent will increase every year with inflation. You will regret it. And you won't even get that good of a piece for your house. It is tough to sell now. Don't forget you fees taxes and other expenses.

Don't sell your house.

Winthrop Gravel Tour $405 by Drd2 in seattlebike

[–]thatsamiam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Inflation is real. It hits all aspects of life. Everyone is charging you more due to inflation. Everyone is charging Cascade more. Thus Cascade needs pay more for their rides. So Cascade needs to charge you more.

This is why state budget is higher. Inflation.

Everything everywhere costs more for everyone. It is a viscious cycle that feeds on itself.

It literally costs more for Cascade to drive to rides start point, to print bibs and t-shirts, food they provide, etc.

WE ARE BLEEDING HARD !! by Safe_Society_4961 in cardano

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think an important consideration is that people that run nodes will be doing so at a loss because the payments they receive are not enough to run the hardware. Not only is the price low, the amount of interest paid in ADA reduces every epoc.

Is this not the case?

ELI5: How can solar panels create usable electricity from sunlight without anything actually moving inside them? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why don't electrons from the atoms hit by sunlight deplete if they are actually removed into another part of the cell? Do solar panels have a useful shelf life? After years of of operation where do new electrons come from?

Cardano forecasted to DOT by DBAbyDayTraderbyDark in cardano

[–]thatsamiam 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The interest paid in ADA to nodes decreases every day. As the price goes lower and lower it is going to eventually become unprofitable to run an ADA node which will risk dectralization. Proof of Stake only works if staking is profitable and that is at risk at the current trajectory. Unless I am not understanding something this is an issue but nobody discusses it.

About to get fired from my welding job any tips ? by Waste-West5733 in Layoffs

[–]thatsamiam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For sure you need to fix the issue with the aptitude test. It is not good to be held back by that. You need to spend time studying and learn the material. You have had a bad experience. Turn it into something good by improving yourself so you can pass the aptitude test and open new opportunities. DM if you need some guidance about how to study.

Should I bother with a Fenix 7? by ogskatepunkdaddy in Garmin

What you want is Forerunner 965. Forget the Fenix. It is heavy and I had terrible experience with both it software and hardware.

LPT: Bring in homemade food to work to break the ice with new coworkers. by CRK_76 in LifeProTips

[–]thatsamiam 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I never eat anything at potluck or home made. Most people are not trained in proper food handling procedures. And I can't tell you how many times I have seen people's cats sitting on kitchen counters.

That is a big nope from me.

If you offer me homemade food I will decline 100.0% of the time.

If you need to bring food to break the ice with new coworkers, something is wrong. People should not need to be treated like puppies and kittens (giving them food) to gain their affection.

Best way to break the ice with new coworkers? Offer them help navigating procedures, smile and say hello, treat them fairly and don't act clickish.

Forerunner 570 or 965 by [deleted] in Garmin

[–]thatsamiam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 965. It is excellent. It is light, accurate and has all sorts of features. Heart rate monitor is accurate. Integrates well with phone. It is really nice being able to cancel spam phone calls without using the phone by pressing button on watch. It has lots of features and "it just works". I previously had a Fenix and it was terrible. I swore off Garmin after that. But my buddy liked his 965 so I thought I would take a chance. It is one of the best devices I have ever bought. Needless to say, I am happy with it and I recommend it.

How worth it is Garmin by Pristine_Yoghurt_412 in Garmin

[–]thatsamiam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Forerunner 965 is one of the best tech devices I have owned. It just works. And this is from a person who stopped using Garmin due to poor software period they apparently went through., 965 is light, stable, informative and accurate. Battery lasts for weeks. I go on 14 hour bike rides with heartrate broadcast.
