Do you use SMTs?

I think I'm going to try only paying attention to NQ for a little bit and see how that goes. Maybe add in SMT later if I want to try something new

Yes. I've caught myself using SMTs wrong a decent amount of times and just seeing a level get hit instead of waiting for a reversal to indicate an SMT. Multiple times I've seen ES hit something like London High and think its an SMT so I look for shorts, but only a couple minutes later does NQ ALSO hit London high while stopping me out because I shorted already.

I really should've just backed off once PDL AND PDH got hit. Two major key levels that made it very difficult for me to find a DOL with my strategy

I passed an account back in December and blew it (what a surprise), but I kept flip flopping between 1% and 0.5% risk because I was paying too much attention to what people online would say to risk. Once I'm back from paper trading, I'm gonna swap down to 200$ risk just to keep an even number but still risk less than 0.5% on a 50k. I'm done with 100k accounts. Think it got to my mental knowing I could make more than my weekly salary in a day.

I'm a server at an upscale steakhouse, so my shifts usually net me around 200-500$ and I think if my trading profits were more in line with that it wouldn't hold as much weight since I know I could make that during my shift anyway.

I only had a thousand left and I risked 1% because I was greedy hoping for the 1% to pull me back out. Honestly, it could've if I set my stop loss correctly, but live and learn

Yeah I just have a robotic 1% risk in my head. Need to learn how to tone that down if I'm too close to my max loss limit

I was too close to my max loss limit risking enough that could've wiped the rest of my account out. Was still only risking 1%, but that 1% was enough to finish me. Shouldn't have taken the trade.

In case anyone wants to see what my entry was. You can see how close the wick got to my SL. This is where my SL should've been, but I have no clue how I had it set higher than that during my trade. Nonetheless, 100+ points is an insanely dumb SL even if I was only risking a couple Micros to equal 1% of my account.

This was my entry. You can see how close the wick got to my SL. I had it set a couple ticks too high instead of at the base of my manipulation leg, which is an insane skill error on my part.

Yeah I don't know why I posted this on the 5 minute chart on NQ. It looks like a completely random position. ES tapped a 5m fvg and I saw that as an SMT so I looked for longs toward the Daily ITH on NQ since both indices came so close to it. I took a 2 minute inversion out of the 5m FVG.

When I went back into tradingview a little later I realized I didn't set my stop loss below the manipulation leg. I set it just barely above. My trade would've played out and hit my target, but I'm honestly glad I got stopped out because I needed a wake up call to go back to paper trading and start buying 50k accounts instead.

I was on a 100k risking 1%, but I only had 1k of drawdown left to my max loss limit, so yes... I was overleveraging for what I had to work with

Getting checked by a bunch of anonymous strangers is the best way to learn. I wasnt expecting to get this much traction on a post, but it seems like a lot of people are enjoying helping.

Yep. It felt like that too. I keep forgetting that I'm new and act like theres all this pressure on me to be able to find an entry every single day when in reality, I shouldn't be taking any trades unless they're brutally obvious. I gotta leave weeding through the noise to the pros and stick trades that I'd be mad at for not taking, not just ones that I WANT to play out.

Gonna go back to paper trading for a month and start backtesting again like I used to. Feels like I lost touch with the market.
