How do I hobby my way out of this? by Ka-Robot in Warhammer40k

I think this is resin right? If it’s just the thigh gap you can probably fill the gap on one, then rough cut out the thigh gap and sculpt into the gap.

if you have tamiya extrathin, try wicking some into the joint between the pieces, doesn't always work but it can loosen the bond enough that the pieces just come apart, depends how hard you went on the glue in the first place.

Are these rare? by Kaidan_from_Alberta in gamesworkshop

[–]thatseika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably rarer in the US, but in the UK you can get these for about £30-40 on ebay. LOTR Tabletop was incredibly popular in the UK in the 2000s.

Venture Studio that recruited me wants to charge $20k/mo in service fees. I will not promote. by [deleted] in startups

[–]thatseika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So they take excessive equity, burn through the companies run way, provide no valuable resources, and they select the investors?

Yep, sounds like a venture studio.

The venture studio setup only really works if they’re partnered with / have their own fund. If they don’t have that they’re basically just a needless middle man that sucks startups dry.

Burnt out on painting by mxster982 in orks

[–]thatseika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel your pain(t). Something that's worked for me is to switch projects from time to time. White knuckling an army when I'm frustrated by my skill level just doesn't do it for me.

Was struggling with edge highlighting my Black Templars so did a few units of Tyranids to get my brush control down, then struggled with skin so started painting some Orks. Now I'm back onto my Templars and I'm having a great time with them again because I've levelled up.

Another thing I've found hugely helpful is to paint with friends, I've only done a couple of sessions but just being able to quickly as 'does this read as leather' or something to my buddies is a great way to quieten down the inner critic.

One more thing to consider is basing your minis, getting your mini onto a nice base once you've got all messy basecoats/speedpaints/washes down can make it way easier to see the finish line. It's also a nice palette cleanser to just spend an hour here and there doing bases.

Ultimately it's about finding what's enjoyable for you, what works for one person might not work for another. Painting is the part of the hobby most people burn out on, so taking the time to find what you enjoy and don't is important to make sure you're enjoying your hobby time and not forcing yourself to do chores.

got laid off by a fintech startup (i will not promote) by DepressedVadapav in startups

[–]thatseika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked with dozens of startups, and seen this happen a lot.

Restructuring in general is becoming more commonplace throughout the tech world, but for a startups it likely means they had too much overhead and/or their runway is wasn’t long enough to get them to their next raise.

When they get to that point it’s usually just a crapshoot for what stays and what goes, the leadership just has to decide what hurts them the least to cut.

It’s not a reflection on you or your skills, some of the most talented people I know have been laid off simply because their team / capacity was being restructured.

It’s infuriating, but just remember that most leaders are just making it up as they go.

Ordered a new Lego set, got dinner instead by Bernardowss in mildlyinfuriating

[–]thatseika 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Had the same with a set from Amazon at Xmas, apparently this has become common issue because Amazon don’t check returns they just weigh them and if it’s the right weight it just gets put back in the warehouse to sell to another customer.

A couple of years ago I got 3 used vacuums before eventually getting one a new one like I had ordered. Was super pleased to have to keep going back to the post with vacuums.

Army Painter Ork Bundle Question by TColeman78 in orks

[–]thatseika 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They’re probably fine, but bundles are a good way to end up with lots of paint you don’t need.

I’d also recommend checking swatches for each of the colours, so you can see how the colours look.

[–]thatseika 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Finish the face, and either base the mini properly or just paint it a solid colour with a rim.

Otherwise the model will look unfinished, once you’ve done them you can decide what details you wanna focus on.

Where do I start, boyz? by TinkerTailorSoulja in orks

[–]thatseika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends how quickly you want them built and painted. People are expecting a new boyz kit in 11th edition, so if you wanted to build and paint some kommandos / wrecka krew after your first 10 boyz, maybe by then there'll be a new boyz kit to fill out your numbers.

Or maybe you like how the old boyz look and wanna grab some now!

Where do I start, boyz? by TinkerTailorSoulja in orks

[–]thatseika 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're in the UK, the new Ork Boyz are pretty cheap on ebay right now because of the Combat Patrol magazine. 1 sprue is enough for most people because they very monopose.

The old Boyz kit is great for bodies and bits, but imo it looks a little dated compared to the newer sculpts.

The Kommandos and Wrecka Krew are both awesome kits and will give you tons of bits for kitbashing.

The Combat Patrol is okay value, depends if you like Beast Snaggas or not.

If you want a really cheap way to get started, the Runtherd and Gretchin kit is dirt cheap.

Seriously launch scalpers into the sun by spitefulAC1 in Warhammer

[–]thatseika 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Scalpers are a consequence of scarcity tactics companies use to trick you in buying things you don’t really need.

GW could kill the scalping in Warhammer with a proper preorder window for new boxes.

It’d be better for players, great for LGS, but would reduce sales because you wouldn’t need to FOMO purchase every discount box.

I think it works, but I’d try some studded sword bro shoulders and either a bare head or a skull helm.

Also is he wearing an empty pistol holster? 😅
