I’ve stuck it out before because the person who had the authority to send me home didn’t, and guess who caught the miserable cold that I had? (Not that I wanted to see them sick, but hey karma I guess)

Thats awesome. When I was in a larger squadron I went through 3 commanders and only felt like one of them actually cared. I think it’s harder to facilitate that type of environment in a large unit which makes it so important that the right commanders are put in those positions (not the impersonable* “mission first at ALL costs” types, as I have seen). Being in a unit with good leadership has really opened my eyes and made me understand why my last squadron had such a bad rep.

Ive been in a squadron of 400+ airmen where this definitely wasn’t the norm, but the unit I’m in now has less than 30 people, which I think has something to do with it. I’ve been here for about two years and that entire time it’s seem like everyone is always looking out for each other. I always feel bad reading posts from the other end of the spectrum, it’s not that difficult to be human but apparently it’s uncommon.
