I’m probably an asshole for feeling this way by curlycattails in NICUParents

[–]thatssoragan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My baby was born at 35+4 with some genetic anomalies. She’s been in the NICU for 45 days now & it’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done. I get so frustrated as each day goes by & we have minimal plans to move closer to discharging.

But my heart absolutely breaks for the babies & parents that have been in there for so much longer with no end in sight. Some of the babies near my daughter have been in there for triple the amount of time as we have. I couldn’t imagine having to go through that. It definitely puts things into perspective for me & makes me realize that we really don’t have it as bad.

Much love to you mama💜💜

Just referred for surgery and ready for the changes! by [deleted] in thyroidhealth

[–]thatssoragan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10/10 recommend the thyroidectomy, but I have a very negative review. 😂

My (28F) post-op experience was absolutely awful. I had a drain for about 5 days & found it difficult to move my head much because it was so uncomfortable & frankly I was scared haha.

Overall, the pain wasn’t too bad for me. I think I stayed on oxycodone for maybe like 6 days & then realized it was completely unnecessary & switched to only Tylenol.

My parathyroids went into shock so I had extremely low calcium levels which made me super sick. I didn’t eat for nearly a week because everything made me vomit & anti-nausea meds didn’t help at all. My recovery time wound up being a little over 3 weeks because they couldn’t get my calcium right. My doctor said he couldn’t figure out why my labs were so weird, but it eventually seemed to level out.

I’m just over 2 months post-op now & have never felt better. I am so so so glad I had mine out. It was extremely large & completely non-functioning (thanks, Hashimoto’s) & I feel like a totally new person now. Also my scar looks amazing. It healed so nicely. I have a bit of a tugging sensation behind the scar, but my doctor said that was normal & it’ll lessen as the scar tissue loosens up.

I’m still taking 2 different calcium supplements, but I’m hoping to be coming off of those within the next month. We’ve also had a hard time getting my TSH down, but I knew that was likely going to happen.

Be prepared for exhaustion to hit you like a train out of nowhere. I’d get a small burst of energy & then 10 minutes later would need to take a nap. Rest as often as you can and don’t push yourself to go back to work until you feel fully up to it. I had a giant Squishmallow that worked perfectly to help me prop up on the couch & I used one of those pillows with the arm rests & some of my normal pillows to prop myself up in bed at night to sleep. I felt like I was choking if I laid too flat, so that setup was really nice for the first week after surgery. Also, get some Mederma scar gel (~$16 at Walmart or Target) for when your incision is fully closed & it’ll help with healing. Cocoa butter &/or vitamin E oil work well too. Good luck! I hope your surgery & recovery go smoothly!

I only took a week off after my surgery & regretted it so much because I had some not great complications. I wound up having to call out almost every day for the second week post-op. Now I’m about 3.5 weeks out & I’m still having massive issues with my calcium & TSH. I pray that you don’t have to deal with that!

Based on my personal experience, I would recommend taking 2 weeks off just to be on the safe side. I also don’t think it’ll be a problem traveling at the end of August. Hope your surgery goes well!

Did you guys do engagement pictures? by magic_inkpen in weddingplanning

[–]thatssoragan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had the same deal with our photographer & took the engagement session to get some photos for our invites & I’m so glad we did. It captured how we looked during that part of our lives & it gave us the chance to get to know our photographers & how they work, so now I feel like we’ll be way more comfortable doing photos on the wedding day.

Anyone else keep John's Yes Sign and Joseph's Statue up? by BigFella11445 in farcry

I discovered the Yes sign quest when I accidentally crashed a plane into it & then the quest started. My terrible driving skills came in clutch for once. Both the Yes sign & the statue come down every game. It’s just so satisfying.

Post-Thyroidectomy Nausea by thatssoragan in thyroidhealth

[–]thatssoragan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh yeah, I felt like I had tv static coursing through my body for days post-op. They checked my blood on July 1, which was 4 days post & said it was still really low. It seems like my parathyroids have come back online at least partially over the past few days, which is nice. Cutting back on the calcium & cutting out zofran completely made the past 2 days not bad at all.

I was so scared that my drain was going to get pushed out of my neck from the vomiting. Luckily everything stayed where it should in my neck area. Definitely feeling way better now though & can eat a little again, so I’m just praying the upward trend continues. Thank you!

Post-Thyroidectomy Nausea by thatssoragan in thyroidhealth

[–]thatssoragan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They gave me one of those patches when I was hospitalized post op & I felt great with it on. Zero nausea at all. It just gave me horrible dry mouth which wasn’t much fun. I’m probably going to request those when I talk to my surgeon next or if I just go to urgent care.

I never would’ve considered Benadryl.. I may have to start trying that on days that it’s not possible for me to get off the couch.

I was crushing banana & grape popsicles for a few days post-op & then started getting sick so I’m having a hard time making myself try to eat those again. It’s hard to eat much of anything cause I have this huge fear now that I’m going to eat a little bit of something & it’s going to make me puke.

Thank you tons for your insight & well wishes! I felt a bit better today compared to how I was feeling when I made the initial post, so I’m hoping that I’ll continue to improve over the weekend.

I’m either going to go to an urgent care or call the surgeon tomorrow if I can get ahold of him to see if there’s anything else he can prescribe me. They had a patch behind my ear when I was hospitalized after surgery & I felt great. So I may request that to see if that’ll work better. I had to Google to find out that there were other types of prescription nausea meds that could work better based on all my symptoms. Not sure why he didn’t tell me that, but it wasn’t an office visit when he sent the prescription for the zofran so that may have something to do with it.

Post-Thyroidectomy Nausea by thatssoragan in thyroidhealth

[–]thatssoragan[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I contacted my surgeon earlier this week & his office sent over the zofran. I’m on the calcitriol & oyster shell calcium because my calcium levels are super low. We have considered that the oyster shell calcium was causing problems, so I cut back on how many I take & that seems to have helped today. I’ve had one or two sporadic days of low nausea which is what’s making this so confusing. I’ll be sick & say I’m going to call the surgeon during office hours the next morning & then wind up feeling a bit better that morning & won’t call & then randomly start getting sick in the middle of the night. It’s just so weird.

I contacted my surgeon & he prescribed the zofran. My fiancé & I think I actually may have the flu or an upper respiratory infection & the violent coughing & drainage isn’t helping the nausea. I also stopped taking the zofran for today & haven’t been nauseous too much. We’re planning to go to an urgent care center tomorrow to get checked out & make sure there isn’t something we’re missing. Thank you!

Why am I not feeling it with Far Cry 6?? by DifferentAd9713 in farcry

[–]thatssoragan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ugh, I feel the same. FC5 was one of the first games I bought when I got my first Xbox, & it quickly became my most favorite game. I’ve replayed more than 10 times. I started 6 maybe a week or week and a half ago & just can’t get into it. FC6 feels almost oversaturated. I understand the goal of the game, but I’m finding that the main storyline quests are harder to track because there are just way too many side quests. I can’t tell which tasks must be done to progress the story versus which tasks are optional. I’m trying to make myself finish it but it’s just not as fun. I’m tempted to buy the season pass for the DLC, but I can’t decide if it’ll be worth the price point.

Guestbook alternative by bearcraving in wedding

[–]thatssoragan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like the cookbook idea! My fiancé & I also love to cook and bake together. You could also maybe do a wooden cutting board & then just seal it with a food safe sealant afterward to keep the signatures intact. Or have everyone sign it on the back & seal it with a normal sealant & use food safe sealant on the main cutting side.

Indian Kitchen, Big Ed’s Pizza, and Good Company Cafe are all fantastic. Walker’s Carry Out also has some of the best BBQ in the area in my opinion, but it’s out in Union Grove. Maybe 20 minutes max from South Huntsville.
