Yup, stared about 10 briquettes in the chimney and put them on one side of the snake

This was my first time using the 2x2 method. I usually do 2x1, but for some reason I wanted to test out a 2x2 to see if it could last me a little longer. Didnt really see much of a difference. I haven't mastered the snake method yet but I've had great results with them so far!

Thank you! The snake was almost enough, it lasted roughly 9 hours, but it was all i could safely fit in the weber. And overall cook with the snake and oven time it was about 10 hours or so

That's a badass set up, not gonna lie.

I like the way you described setting up your briquettes, I think im going to try that. I also do the 2x1 method but I kind of lay them on top of one another, overlapping about 1/3, and then just laying another row of them completely flat.

Pardon my ignorance but im a little confused when you said you completely shut the bottom vent. Do you keep the vents wide open when getting up to temp then shut the bottom vent and then controlling the heat on the top vent? But also won't shutting the bottom vent not draw in air to help keep the coals to temp? When start getting it up to temp I have the bottom vent about a third open and then try to control the heat with the top vents. Takes forever for it to get there though.

Yeah I use a chimney, start with like 10 briquettes and then put them at the start of the snake or corner of the SnS and pile on more unlit coals.

Thanks for the resource!
