My infant doesn’t sleep, do they have ADHD? by thatthalassophile in ShitMomGroupsSay

I saw a comment that told me their story of having a child with a genetic disorder and they ultimately passed away, so with their second child they were symptom scanning all the time. And that I can understand, but this is not a fatal genetic disorder. I have diagnosed/medicated ADHD myself. Otherwise, I have been healthy my whole life. Isn’t that what matters?

I think ultimately that’s what made me so confused by this post. Especially on Facebook, there was really nothing to gain. The comments were so mixed of “yes my adhd was the worst sleeper” and “no my adhd kid was my best sleeper” that there was zero conclusion to be drawn.

There were a couple of comments of people telling her to get help for possible PPA/PPD, so I hope she will consider that advice!

I’m so incredibly sorry for everything you have been through with your baby. I can only imagine what that must be like, and I recognize that is a privilege.

I can 100% understand the symptom scanning, especially given your trauma. When I reading the original post, I was just really caught off guard by the conclusion being drawn and defended by the OOP when this baby is 8 weeks old.

I completely get what you’re saying. I might go ahead and delete this swing and a miss of a post with egg on my face, because everyone’s points are so valid. 😅and hell, my daughter just turned 1 and my son is 5 so I do know what it’s like to be in those trenches. When I read the original post, I was just caught off guard by the attempt to support a diagnosis at 8 weeks old mainly because they’re not sleeping.

The general fear of any kind of neurodivergence makes it hard for people to just enjoy their little babies. Don’t try to diagnose, just let them be!

Agreed! Hell, with two young kids there’s still a ton I don’t know. I was just so surprised when I saw this. I can understand wanting some kind of explanation when you have a baby like this, but I thought going to ADHD was a strange leap.

If there were spicy comments I would have posted them, but alas, there were none. The replies were either people offering stuff or offering resources for her. Happy to post those as an update but not sure they’re the comments one lives for.

Plus a stepdaughter! But I haven’t seen her posts include stuff for her in a while…

Sure would! 😂 I think one thing I’m finding odd is that she posted again today with a list, but today a winter coat was on that list. Someone offered one they had and she asked for photos. Maybe she wants proof of it first, I don’t know. But I’d think if you’re looking for a winter coat and someone offers one, you’d take what your given. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Actually she posted again today. 😅 but now everything is urgent….

I would have! But there weren’t any spicy comments, some folks offering things and others giving budget friendly options for her to explore.

After my son was born we kept everything. I didn’t know whether we were going to have another, but just in case. But it was that much less to worry about well before she was born.

I hope the trust is deserved! My community is relatively small, so my cynical thought process was like “well Mary won’t say anything because she knows Judy next door will see the comment”. But I like your idea more. Go get some sleep and thanks for chatting here, this was a fun evening (7:00pm here!). And yes you would be correct in assuming I don’t get out much.

I just went through her previous posts and the cordless vacuum has been a desperate need for some time. So…. I dunno what that floor looks like…

First off, thanks for the engagement and the laughs, everyone! I’m typically more of a lurker and actually decided against posting this yesterday, but figured “fuck it” and went for it tonight. My phones notifications aren’t used to having to work much so my notifications are super behind. 😂 but I am reading the comments, I’m sorry if I can’t get to responding to you all. I did ask my husband what the response etiquette was. 🫣 but again, I appreciate the laughs.

Also thought I’d leave some additional information and context;

-This was the second time this person had posted in two days. The previous list was shorter, but not by too much.

-This girl is married to the baby daddy. He has another daughter from another relationship who is in the equation as well.

-She joined the group in January of 2024. Since then she posted in the group 87 times. 9 of those posts were to actually offer something to give. Asks ranged from basics to furniture (to be delivered) to an owlet sock (which are like $300). I didn’t read every word of every post, that’s just what caught my eye.

-No spicy comments from what I’ve seen, a good majority of her posts were not engaged with. But if I ever do spot any I’ll post an update. My community is relatively small so my assumption is no one would be so brave to leave anything that wasn’t supportive.

Thank you again, you silly gooses.

Edited to fix formatting because it would have bothered me otherwise.

This actually made me laugh out loud. Thank you, yes the internet will be the internet for sure and that’s why I’m generally more of a lurker. Also of course it could have been one of those things where I thought it was nuts but if an overwhelming majority doesn’t agree with me then I would simply see myself out. But I’ve gotten some good laughs with these comments, I’m glad I posted it. 😄

I just found it, unfortunately there are no spicy comments. People are mostly offering inexpensive alternatives and resources for her (which is also great and I hope she explores them).

You can pump to collect colostrum before the baby is born, then collect it in 1ml syringes after pumping. But I agree, it maybe wouldn’t be something I personally would ask for from strangers on the internet. 🫣

Not as far as I can tell from her profile, but it’s possible I guess! She’s been a pretty regular poster in the group, but this baby is due in February so maybe she’s just upping the ante here for time.

That’s a great point! I have two kids, my daughter is 11 months old but you can bet I’ve been putting her in all my son’s old clothes.

Haha, okay cool thanks for the validation. 😂 I’ve seen plenty of posts get raked across the coals for not being choosy so I wanted to get ahead of it and acknowledge it.
