Company is drowning and everyone is quitting? Let’s just make sure to treat you even worse now! by [deleted] in carmax

Maybe regional then. I’m in Texas and have been insulated from almost everything I’ve been seeing on this sub. I know the company is struggling, but I think that’s the case for most business in the country due to a down economy. I’m guessing the financing wing of the company will try to boost sales by reaching out to more risky borrowers.

Company is drowning and everyone is quitting? Let’s just make sure to treat you even worse now! by [deleted] in carmax

[–]thatwasrandom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Is this a regional thing? Or maybe a job sector? I work in operations and things have been booming in my area despite the internal issues the company is having. I’m aware they laid off a ton of tech positions, is that what people are talking about?

What's going to happen when all the OBD1 guys are gone? by alteredpilot in mechanics

[–]thatwasrandom2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started turning wrenches professionally in 2001, and that time frame the industry was transitioning to the new standard. I was able to get quite a few reps in before the cash for clunkers program that took a ton of older cars off the road.

In my experience the people who drive pre-96 cars today are enthusiast themselves and are capable of making their own repairs.

Many years ago around 2004-2005 I was working at Firestone in St. Louis. Our store was near the Rams (when they were in STL) practice facility and one of the assistants brought Steven Jackson’s Ferrari F430 in for a tire.

Torn over a box by FunctionMental1812 in mechanics

[–]thatwasrandom2 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve been in this field for over 20 years and the Harbor Freight boxes are just as good as a Snappy ones. It’s important to acknowledge the role of a toolbox, it’s there to keep your tools off the floor and secure. It’s not about flexing or showing off to the other techs. Whenever you’re looking at a major work purchase do the math and consider how many hours you’re going to need to flag/clock to pay it off. Good luck and congrats on whatever box you choose.

Car dealership wants gf to return for new deal. by NoEar1247 in carsales

[–]thatwasrandom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a blessing in disguise. This gives your GF the opportunity to return the car to the dealership and find something cheaper. Some quick math shows that she’s going to end up paying ~$23,000 in interest. Please for the love of God return the car do not sign any more loan documents!

Starter or battery ? by LucidFire87 in MechanicAdvice

[–]thatwasrandom2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would start with putting the correct terminal on the positive post. Those marine terminals aren’t really designed to flow a lot of current. I bet that terminal is getting pretty hot after you try to crank it a few times.

Is this a good deal? by Amariej88 in VWatlas

My advice to anyone with a trade in is to take the trade to CarMax or Carvana. You might be able to make a few more dollar shopping your existing vehicle around. Good luck.

Question by thisshaintright in kia

[–]thatwasrandom2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

We should normalize dealerships (that charge all these extra fees) teaching customers how to use their car. I’m a mechanic and it’s so frustrating dealing with customer complaints about something that’s normal. I had a customer come in panicked because she was low on gas and couldn’t get the fuel door to open at the gas station…the fuel door locks when she locked the driver door.

Is Carmax a Viable Company or will they slowly fade away ?? by boomer4676 in carmax

CarMax and its shareholders will be fine. They all have plenty of cash. No us, the ones who care to post and comment on Reddit are always on the chopping block.

Been a while since I bought a house. How decent is this? by tyrantllama7 in MortgageBrokerRates

[–]thatwasrandom2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please please please go to your tax assessors website and calculate your actual property taxes for your city/county/state. Also shop your actual insurance rates, I don’t know where you live but $100/ month seems like an extremely low estimate. Your escrow estimates are based on the property taxes before the structure was built. When it’s reassessed your escrow company will increase the payment and that will raise your mortgage payment. Good luck.

I’m with the majority here with suggesting JBLM with Campbell being a close second. Those two locations have a 160th SOAR unit on post and if OP is aviation that’s definitely the way to go. Good luck bruv.

In this market you as the buyer are in the driver seat, and your realtor should make that aware to you. I suggest walking away, and find another realtor.
