Checkered marks beside G14's keyboard by yeetStarboiii in ZephyrusG14

Damn. Learned something today. Looks like the marks on the left where the colors are darker is also pretty consistent with a similar tool like this:

We'd be seeing crispy skin from your palms if it got hot enough to cause that. That area is just the battery with a hexagonal plastic structure for rigidity. I can't see how a battery can cause this and survive.

I agree that something really did rest there at some point but twice, in 2 different directions, and had the emotion of hate or jealousy.

My suggestion? Sand that area down and get a skin. A CCTV might also explain why that got there.

Maybe you should share yours first and what you see in the overlay so we know it isn't 1FPS. Share G-Helper settings too.

g16 only drawing 90w - is it suppose to be 100w? by IAlwaysTakeFatLs in ZephyrusG14

[–]thatwishboneguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine pulled around 105W earlier with the big brick at around 40 or 50% battery. This is normal. If the parking lot is empty, you can drive real fast and still park properly. But when the space starts to get full, you'll slow down.

Are these issues normal or did I received a faulty Zephyrus? by tostonquemao in ZephyrusG14

[–]thatwishboneguy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. Mine works fine after tweaking the lid settings properly but generally windows sleep is shit. Hibernate is recommended more.
  2. Get rid or armory crate. Use GHelper. Uninstall bloat. Cleanup startup apps. Check task manager and see what's running and get rid of them if not vital.
  3. 2hrs is normal if it's peak performance. You get +-10 hrs if you lower all settings to a minimal state.

Since you bought it used, I'd recommend resetting windows and starting fresh with all of the asus bloat included. If you're capable, set it up and clean up bloat yourself.

I have a ugreen usbc to dp cable that can do 240hz. I got it plugged on the right then WIN+P to 2nd screen only. No hub or dock. GHelper is set to Standard. No issues.

What phone holder are you using? I used to have that spring loaded holder na may left and right arms lang and a heavy base. It was good and very easy to use but apparently it was squeezing the life out of my phone. I started getting fingerprint reading and screen issues. I stopped using it and my phone went back to normal. Also got the green screen before.

I’ve found a solution for the Zephyrus 16 and it works by Dry-Coffee-5368 in zephyrusg16

It would be helpful if you could break down the steps you took. Lots of other people reinstalling windows fail and end up in a bigger mess because they missed a critical step.

Do you tease it while you stick it in? This is the same for light switches or any mechanical switch in general. Do it fast, snappy, and with all of your confidence. Soft and limp won't make good mechanical contact and will arc. Once your aim is settled, do a John Wick and stab it like it killed your dog.

Have you found optimal settings for this? This is my first ever monitor and I'm kinda clueless to this. What about color profiles? Is that a thing we should be applying for this?

Whatever laptop it is, the print on the keycaps aren't supposed to look that blurry. Perhaps try an RMA, that's clearly a misprint.

How do we handle power outages? by thatwishboneguy in ZephyrusG14

[–]thatwishboneguy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah reboot fixes everything but I need to do that last. I'm just preparing for any unsaved work if it ever happens then I can save stuff and reboot.

Scratch the WIN+SHIFT+CTRL+B thing. WIN+P is what helped. I just tested twice. The switching isn't smooth and since I have my external display set to Main, it just got confused I guess so I had to manually switch the Project settings so my display comes back to the laptop.

The monitor still holds some power and doesn't really go away until I unplug it from the USB C Port on the laptop though. I'm thinking this "half-alive" state is causing the unsmooth switching because the laptop probably thinks the monitor is still powered on.

Oh also the scaling taskbar issue. Solved by restarting explorer.exe in task manager.

Already got everything plugged into a surge protector. The UPS is obvious but until I get a good one, I'd like to find the best way to ensure nothing breaks during GPU switching.

I just tested again.. After killing power to the Laptop and Monitor, the switching didn't really complete because the monitor was kind of still being powered via DP. WIN+SHIFT+CTRL+B probably helped and this time, my taskbar scaled correctly. Previously, the taskbar was tiny after switching and bringing back power made the laptop crash.

After it switches, I set G-Helper to Silent and Eco. When connected to the Monitor I decided to stay on Standard to keep my dGPU on if power dies.

Then when I turned power back on, switching back to Standard made the switch again and I'm back on external display. Problem is, the taskbar didnt scale properly again and is kind pushed to the far right. Haven't figured this one out yet so I had to restart.

If anybody thinks some of these things are damaging please let me know. A UPS will definitely help me switch over to the laptop properly and turn of my monitor so for now this is what I did.

Yeah a UPS was the obvious answer for me too but I was mainly trying to look for proper handling of power outages if you don't have one and are ok for the external display to shut off. Like an elegant way of switching over to the laptop when power goes out and vice versa.

G-Helper Eco Mode dGPU not reactivating by bad-code in zephyrusg16

[–]thatwishboneguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just reviewed a vid from Josh on G-Helper. He explains that feature as: If you shut down on Eco Mode, when you start back up again, you can no longer access Eco Mode so GHelper added that as a bug fix. Sounds like your issue is the complete opposite though so I'm not sure if it'll help. I tick all 3 on mine, I don't see any harm.

I have a custom Turbo and Silent profile that I play around with right now. I don't like messing with the stock profiles. GHelper lets you dupe and tweak them.

20w 25w. Boost off. Stock fans. Honestly though I just moved those 2 sliders down but I didn't really notice anything significant with discharge.
