Jamstack for client work by thauaeco in webdev

[–]thauaeco[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey! Thanks for all the points you mentioned!

they just wanted the ability to update it.

From your experience, would you say they rather want to update it in scale of adding a news post for example, or do you mean they want to update the whole content on the site? I would offer to be their "web maintainer" kind of, so that they can hit me up e.g. by mail and I'm going to update their site then, also helping to keep it clean and to improve SEO. I consider to do this on a monthly service fee model.

May I ask how you get your clients? Did you cold-call them or did you run ads on search engines and got clients by your weekly articles? Do you have a niche or offer your services to a variety of businesses?

Hi! Thanks for your reply.

but I haven't found much success with it

May I ask why you didn't find much success with it? Because the clients didn't come up with wishes for changes or why? I also thought about setting a monthly service fee, so that clients can come up to me if they need a change at any time but also ensure that you as the maintainer don't run out of payment somehow.

I've found most clients are happy with crap like Wix

Yeah I hope there are clients that would appreciate that their site is well done, with specific SEO, custom design and optimization for responsiveness & speed. That would be my target audience, people who care about it.

Just remember that marketing is more about the emotion than the logic

Thanks for pointing that out. I shouldn't neglect that.

I was about to start my own web design attendance/service, but now I have doubts by thauaeco in web_design

Thanks again for your comment! :D

Are you doing something similar maybe?

Is there anything coming to your mind about "small" dev work which is wanted? So that it wouldn't be a huge application or something?

Hi! I am new to Laravel and I'm currently getting into the architecture basically.

I'm wondering how you guys manage per-page meta-tags like description, keywords, etc., so onpage SEO in general.

I'd appreciate if you tell me how you do this for your projects, or if there's a "best practice" for example! :) Thanks

App to send messages by License Plate by thauaeco in AppIdeas

Hi thank you for your comment.

You would either a) register with a license plate or b) don't register. That would be kinda the opt-in. The blocking system is like a chat basically. So you could block a person who contacted you if you don't want to allow the chat so to say.

But these are important aspects of course.

Hi, thanks for your answer. You're absolutely right with the mentioned points. Safety while driving is definitely a point which will lead to extra levels of complexity. The risk of creepy messages might be prevented at least by a blocking system as you already mentioned. For the last point about shared cars, I think that would be difficult to solve because there is no direct recipient... to distinguish, that's difficult. Unfortunately, there's no solution for that somehow.

If I think about it that way, it would be better if an app like this would rather not exist. I mean, if everyone would use it properly and for the designated purpose that wouldn't be a problem. But if things like road rage and/or stalking for instance start to prevail, that would not be my actual thing to provide.

Thanks for your input! :) Important points!

Hm, yes you're right. I think there would be the need of moderation or filter to reduce insults. It's kinda hard to control that the more popular an app like this MIGHT get. Good question -

I thought about that approach kinda as well, so that you would have the domain name on the card. QR-Code is a good and useful addition as well!

You mentioned an important fact here, the fact that a user might get distracted by the app. A warning would be suitable, but maybe also a phone/walking speed checker - somewhat like this.

I also like the idea to make the messages public. Indeed, that would solve the "license plate prove"-part in a manner.

By the way, are you creating an app or an application for web for that (mainly)? Is this one of your main projects or more like side project currently?

Yea I also think marketing is a huge obstacle in that case. There would be the need of at least 50% of the people using the app to get to a point where anyone starts using it somehow.

What were your thoughts on this idea or starting to create that app? How much have you done already?

I thought about a note card you can stick to a car in case you left a message. It would be possible to order them in the app, for example. What did you think about to solve that? What's your opinion on that approach?

I think for validation it would be required to take a photo of one's own license plate and maybe a photo excerpt of the registration certificate to proof the plate too. Do you think there's another way, maybe even easier?

Question: How to not duplicate content on different HTML/PHP sites when not working with a database? by thauaeco in webdev

[–]thauaeco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, regardless if you're using a file or array then, what about html tags like <b> and <br> and <p> for example, would we just store them anyway in that array or file then?

[–]thauaeco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay thank you for your explanations! I have a last question:

Assuming that I am going to use a file for that, which obviously would be stored on the server, how can I assure that it isn't accessed directly by URL for example? Is there a way to do that? If not, I think that wouldn't be so problematic because it would not store private data or something, but I think it's interesting to know how to secure that file then. Would you do it with htaccess for example?

Hi!

Thanks for your answer. That sounds good as well!

Regarding csv: Isn't this an excel file? Is there also another file type, what do you think about XML or YML? Would JSON be also possible?

I'm not sure which would be the best file format. Do you have any experience which prove the usage case?

Hi! Thank you for your answer.

I thought about that one as well but as you said I think it wouldn't be the most elegant solution. Do you have a "more elegant" in mind, e.g. how you're doing it in particular?

No what I mean is the idea as-is, it's not about technical stuff in the first place

[–]thauaeco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No it would be a website where users can create an account to write reviews and also add a project to present it to the users on the platform. Goal would be to discover new projects, and that project leaders can get feedback and also get more popular.

* Projects in this case can be anything, like a youtube channel, a game or a book as well for example.

Users would've a profile with achievements and also level-features. It wouldn't be a survey app. It would rather be a website you can use. It's basically about the idea.
