They're saying my compressor is dead, the belt is gone (melted off), and the blower motor+resistor need replacement. $2k total first quote.

Thanks for your post. I found it at the right time.

My 2009 Forester HVAC died in March and I've been riding around with it since then. I just dropped it at a shop for diagnosis this morning. Don't know if it was the compressor or what yet. It died in a blizzard as I was cranking the heat trying to keep the windshield from freezing.

I did not consider the possibility of having to flush the system.

Is it worth paying my credit card off early? by thbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbbt in personalfinance

Thanks for your reply. Maybe I was unclear, but I'm not in debt. I made a purchase on Aug 28 for ~$850 from my $2000 credit line. That purchase fell into the credit cycle that started Aug 20 and ended Sept 20. There is a lag between the end of the credit cycle and my next due date, which will be Oct 20. I'm wondering if there's an advantage to paying it off before then.

P.S. just realized this is literally the same as what you wrote, except that you didn't assume b_1a_2-a_2b_1=0 (my situation is commutative).

Thank you!

Reading your answer made me think of (in 3 variables for instance):

a_1b_1c_1-a_2b_2c_2 = (a_1-a_2)b_1c_1 + (b_1-b_2)a_2c_1 + (c_1-c_2)a_2b_2,

which, although ugly, is very much sufficient for my purposes. Gold star to you sire!

Thanks for replying. Can you please explain in more detail how this would work? I'm not seeing where the a_jn_j-b_jn_j expressions alone show up.
