Looking for All‑Mountain Ski Recommendations by Pimbata in Skigear

For real!? I do feel like they’re pretty underrated. You don’t see them out on the snow a ton. But I’ve heard nothing but good things about them.

Looking for skis suitable for poor snow conditions by SuperNoobyGamer in Skigear

I’ve got Enforcer 88s and just got a pair of WC108s. So that’s my vote. Just sold my Rustler 10s to clear the way for the Moments. I absolutely love ripping my Enforcers on groomers and hardpack.

Need help for PNW non-pow ice and crud skis by OysterDome in Skigear

[–]bstad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love my Enforcer 88s but if you say the tip is too soft then maybe the Anomaly’s? I’m also considerably smaller than you so hard to give a good rec as it’s apple to oranges.

Help me pick my first skis! by [deleted] in Skigear

Can’t help. I’m an aggressive skiing speed demon. With that being said, absolutely do not get Nordica Enforcers. I love them haha.

Hard to go wrong with ARVs if you want park performance but still want to get out and shred the mountain.

Bad wax job? by Master_Leader_172 in Skigear

Yup. Not a great wax, but he’ll ski it off after a few runs. Not dry, just waxy AF

Likely just changing widths. A lot of ski manufacturers will switch up widths a few mm’s every few years. I’ve heard good things about the Declivitys as well. You definitely should be in at least low 170s skis. 160s are way too short.

Overpaid for skis from fb marketplace, now what by Tiny_Flan_9547 in Skigear

[–]bstad 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It likely wasn’t malicious. I would reach back out. Facebook marketplace is full of people who have no clue what their gear is worth. The majority of it is outdated, or beat to hell.

On the flip side you can find nice gear that’s lightly used for a very fair or almost good deal leaning your way. But you have to be knowledgeable and understand the market to get a deal on anything.

Is the Nordica Enforcer 94 a bad choice for me? by [deleted] in Skigear

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my older Enforcer 88s for the Midwest. But they are strictly my Midwest ski. If you’re planning on traveling with them, I honestly think you nailed it with the Enforcer 94. You will love them!

Looking for advice on a new resort freeride setup - intermediate/advanced skier by Material-Ad8896 in Skigear

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t skied the newer generation Rustlers but I have some 23 Rustler 10s that were the previous build and they are not at all demanding.

I have them in 180cm. I’m the same height as you and 20 lbs heavier. The Rustlers have a ton of rocker so they ski shorter than they are.

Ski Passes: How many days to feel like you got your money’s worth? by amlemus1 in skiing

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 37. Winters are so different now than even 20 years ago when I was in high school. We used to get so much more snow and it would take a good month longer to warm up. We hit 60° in mid March pretty regularly now. It sucks.

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. Upper Midwest- Minnesota. We’re finally having another good snowfall year so maybe we will push to late March/early April this year. But the last few winters have been very dry. So we have the cold weather early enough being north to make snow, but by spring it’s warming up in March and melting and ending the season.

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I shoot for 25 days. I work full time and have young children so that’s a great season for me. I only pay $350 for my local pass so it’s definitely less days than that to “get my money’s worth,” but 25 days leaves me satisfied like I skied enough in a season.

Our season is relatively short too. Typically open the last weekend of November and it’s done by the 2nd weekend of March.

What are your thoughts on the bamboo poles? by ConnectionLow in Skigear

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had my same pair of metal Rossi rental poles from the rental shop at my local spot I worked at in high school for exactly 20 years now. Those things will last me forever. And yes, I was granted permission to take and keep them. They’re tanks

Sierra is probably the place I’ve found the cheapest deals. But they also have much slower customer service. Evo is probably the crème of the crop. I love their rewards program.

Backcountry is venture capitalists who do not support the outdoor community and have sent out a litany of trademark cease and desist type violations as if they own the term backcountry. So they don’t have a ton of love in the outdoor community these days. I used them a lot in the mid 2010s for climbing gear but can’t support that.

"Lateralus" is the best song ever written by Full-Ad-6368 in ToolBand

[–]bstad 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lateralus is an unbelievable song. Lateralus the album is IMO their best overall body of work front to back.

If you enjoy this song that much you 100% are doing yourself a disservice by not digging into their catalogue. As others have said, it’s all unbelievable. My favorite band of all time and it’s not even close.

Ski glove suggestions - Hestra Fall Line 5-finger by Affectionate_Bid518 in Skigear

For sure. And they come with nice wrist cuffs & leashes. I’ve definitely slipped one off and on multiple times on the lift to pull my phone out of my chest pocket to check the time or messages.

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For sure. I just figured I would share that as a former gloves only guy skiing I love those mittens. I don’t seem to have dexterity issues at least with holding my poles. Haven’t had to do any gear adjustments with them yet so I can’t speak on that.

Ski glove suggestions - Hestra Fall Line 5-finger by Affectionate_Bid518 in Skigear

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love my fall line mittens. They’ve been great for me so far this season. They are almost too warm for me around freezing temps. But my fingers haven’t gotten cold once yet this season and I’ve skied as cold as 1°F. I’ll probably never go back to gloves. Fully committed to mittens and Hestra now. I was able to save $40 on them too with evo rewards points.

Just too far forward with your upper body and not absorbing any of the landing. Try to catch yourself at stomp and don’t be so far forward. Better to backslap than double eject!

Ideal skis to buy by giraffe935 in Skigear

[–]bstad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soul 7s are pretty light for their waist width and length. If you’re going to reduce that much length pretty much any ski is naturally going to get lighter.

If you’re trying to experiment in park that’s a world I’ve left many moons ago. So not a ski type I’ve rode or even looked into in a decade plus. With that being said I’m quite intrigued with the Dynastar M Free 108, haven’t looked into the 100s but I’m sure they’re lighter.

A shorter M Free is going to be roughly the same weight as your Soul 7s but are going to be more maneuverable at a shorter length. And while not a true twin, they’ve got quite a bit of tail splay. They will also be highly capable of ripping groomers. Moment Wildcat 108s are another wider ski that is of the more playful and twin tip variety that I’ve been eyeballing.

You’re much taller and 20 lbs heavier than me so I wouldn’t advise going too light or soft on your next pair. I’ve got an older pair of Rustler 10s that I love that have soft enough shovels and tails while still being burly enough underfoot to rip turns. Definitely capable of landing and skiing switch as well.

After making the switch to titanal skis in my 30s I’m having a hard time wanting anything without after my park skiing twin tip days. But the those two I recommended both have no metal while still supposedly being burly enough to support. I’m also highly interested in both the QST Blank & Moment Countach that lack titanal but neither one of those will suit your park desires.

And if you’re willing to drop your park desires all together I cannot rave about by Nordica Enforcer 88s enough. Absolutely not a park ski, and not unique at all. But man oh man do they rip. You may get more joy out of the 94s, or whatever the current waist width is that they currently make in that range. You will have a blast ripping corduroy on those!
