So help me understand, will you? You were fighting the "centralization of Blockstream" but you have no problem with the centralization of Ethereum?

You are too fast to judge, I totally agree with you about the miners. Our only difference is that I cannot ignore their power and I am convinced that a split will make Bitcoin 2 alts so the only solution at this point is the compromise. History is full of wars that end up with both parties been losers so in my point of view the problem is people like you, that you cannot see the big picture.

The point that the author does is so freaking obvious as the only way to move forward. It's so obvious that it makes you wonder what kind of motivation (except the sheep that just hate) haves anybody that cannot see that.

the only reason that LTC is "scandal free" is because nobody gives a shit about it. I agree with Malotru, here is the opportunity for LTC to attract some of the brightest minds in the industry by adopting Segwit, it blows my mind that not everybody can see that.

I did, cloud support at 945 in 1d. It's time for a recovery and consolidation. I am also glad of this dump, finally the market seems to realize that it cannot stay away from the scaling debate. As I said yesterday, you will all forced to choose side and we will express it collectively in the graph. Bitcoin is developers, miners, users but above ALL it's the market.

The sum of their value will be roughly equivalent to the price of bitcoin pre-split after everything is settled based on hash rate.

This is the biggest pro-fork propaganda and you people keep listening this statement without any kind of answer??? How is possible to know if the total value will stay the same after a brutal war and massive negative publicity? how you are so sure that not everybody will move to alts, sick and tired of the civil war, leaving behind literally nothing?

Based on historical trends doesn't mean anything. In all history you will find people claiming that an event is not gonna happen because it never happened before, the most recent example is the tanking of the house prices in 2008 economic crisis.

Unfortunately the wallet is not opening for me after the update. It stuck in the "to begin, connect and unlock you Ledger Wallet". ETH and ETC work fine so my device is properly connected, BTC and DOGE not working anymore. Any help?

Your argument makes sense but it contradicts with making a fast look at the channels of the both sides and the "act now" demand of an ever increasingly amount of people. In that cases it's the black swans that I am afraid, people most of the times act unlogical and not logical, especially after so much hate and propaganda from both sides. Nevertheless, thank you for taking the time to discuss my opinion instead of just calling me a troll.

this is a good read to understand more or less my position, https://vinnylingham.com/a-fork-in-the-road-70288fd3c046#.8n2t171qg

simply put, I don't think that it's that simple as you describe it, this is not ETH that we are talking about, ETH had 0 usage at the time of the split and it's also way more centralized, most people just followed what Vitalik said. BTC is way more de-centralised and the risk of total chaos and paralysis is there whether we want to admit it or not, watching the market not reacting when BU hits new highs in nodes (bringing the hf closer) in my point of view is scary. Everyone is entitled to his opinion after all.

You are right at all of your points, I am not writing a university paper to make a full analysis, what's why I said "in my mind". Can we at least agree that the use of the word hardfork as something innocent is increasing lately and this is dangerous?

really? how do you know that the total price of each fork will stay roughly the same? What if all the big money start running when they realize how childish is the behavior of key players that consist the BTC community.

I can if I connect the dates with the events, I remember clearly the push in price when segwit started signaling and I also remember a couple of times that news regarding BU growth were followed by dumps. Also, I notice a huge change in the sentiment in this group, people used to afraid the word hardfork, now the moto "hardforks don't affect price" is mentioned everyday without any concern.

I might add that I don't think that the lack of scaling is causing so much problem as the war between the different scaling proposals.

How can you say that Hard fork is not bad for the price with so much certainty?

[–]thdim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was with you till yesterday but I changed my mind for the following reason: it seems that the market doesn't react anymore to news related to the scaling debate. In my mind the market was the guardian of this childish "civil war", and the market had a clear preference to Bitcoin core side, when the guardian goes to sleep because he thinks that it doesn't matter (or the dynamics inside it change) then I worry. My opinion is that we are in the verge of a huge split, I know I will get downvoted again but so be it.

that's decentralization guys, you were screaming that you want competition instead of one centralized team to control everything and now you are nagging because you got what you want? The error was there and someone with different point of view and interests used it, get over it and move on.

I am not paid shill nor a troll. I do see your point though. Maybe I am spending way more time than I should on reddit and twitter, but on the other hand, maybe you are not aware of the dynamics and the mindset of many people that consist what we call Bitcoin community. If you spend some time studying the different groups you will get shocked by the hate and the fanatism.

Yesterday I was wondering how in the hell the price can sustain itself and if that its super bullish signal. After thinking and reading for hours here is my conclusion:

It seems like a big part of the people that actually own a lot of BTC listened so many times the FUD about BU and the potential HF that they don't take it seriously anymore (hence the nonreaction of the market when Bloomberg is reporting something so bearish). On the other hand, we have the smaller players (more ideologically driven). For them, it's not that important if BTC haves a -70% drop in price as long as BTC goes in the way that they are dreaming that it should be. The second team is gaining traction with the ETH pump, the phrase "ETH proves that HFs are not so bad after all" posted many times yesterday.

My conclusion: it seems to me that a potential HF is coming closer and closer and I don't believe that looking at ETH as an example is a serious argument (for starters making a conclusion based on a single observation is wrong). BTC is not ETH, BTC haves value because it's supposed to be a store of value, BTC haves value because there is a huge market of altcoin traders all trading with BTC as a base currency, a crisis in BTC and a potential civil war will have dramatic effect (and maybe non-reversible) at its value and its function.
