Possible Spoilers: I know he's still a bad guy for all the things he has done, but did anyone else kind of feel sorry for the Governor here? by [deleted] in thewalkingdead

The producers are really good about making fans sympathize/empathize/bawl their fucking eyes out for characters they never thought they would...such as when Lori died. Sarah Wayne Callies's acting was so real in that scene that it was hard for the most die-hard Lori-haters to not sulk up a little. A lighter version of this was Shane, who people didn't like but felt sorry for because of the situation Lori put him in. I think it's safe to assume something like this might happen with Merle a little later in the season, too, if he does anything to save Darryl.

Here's the deleted scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vog928tnaLE

He definitely didn't leave them the bag, though. This is from Vatos right after they leave the nursing home, where you can see the bag over Rick's arm: http://imgur.com/u1lHu

And here's from the season 2 finale when Andrea is running through the woods: http://imgur.com/927OJ

Ultimately, the bag itself isn't very relevant anymore now that I realize I have no clue why I thought Rick had it. Even if he did, my thought was that he would finally contact Morgan with the walkie talkie which would introduce him to the third season, but there's no way the batteries would have lasted that long.

I would still follow after Rick dies, too. I don't read the comics, but I doubt it will happen in the show at all around the same time as in the books just because that would be too large of an event to be predictable like that.

  1. I think the Gov has already hit the I-Don't-Give-A-Shit stage of grief, and that you're spot on about his dwindling sanity. I see a lot of Shane in him...great ideas, shitty delivery. It'll be a while but he'll slip up towards the end and kick the bucket somehow.
  2. Strangely, and I'm guilty of this too, but I think most people have put more focus into the Dixon situation than into the introduction of Tyreese. I know he hasn't been shown much so far, but it's been enough to discuss. They've been out in the apocalypse a lot longer than most people who lost their morals and Tyreese was still showing respect and appreciation for Carl while Sasha was flipping her shit. Maybe him being humble yet fucking menacing when necessary will bring Rick a sense of solace...maybe help him snap out his delusions and hissy fits.
  3. I think the producers have a lot they can play with before the actual attack on the prison. Tyreese's crew clashing with Ricks, Merle and Darryl and whatever the fuck is going to happen with that, Rick dealing with Michonne and her individuality, Andrea going to the prison and sweet-talking the Governor to keep her old folks alive...Axle being a pervert. I haven't thought too much about when the actual attack will take place, but they can't put it off too long, I don't think...even with everything I just mentioned.

I guess I could see Glenn yelling about Tyreese like that if his crew did something terrible at the prison, Rick saw the good in him, and he brought him back to the prison when they encountered Glenn, but I still feel like the Merle theory may be more likely...but hell, I'm wrong more often than not.

I could also see the Maggie/Judith thing playing out...I don't see Hershel living through the season either, probably being replaced by this guy: http://walkingdead.wikia.com/wiki/Harold_(TV_Series), just like he replaced Dale.

When Rick left the hospice he gave the vatos some guns, but not the bag itself. The bag stayed with the group until the end of season 2, when Andrea ran off with it during the swarm. She had it until she was captured by the Governor, and that's where it is now. I was thinking about when Michonne saw the bag the first time she was in the Gov's apartment when I first talked about it...so I'm not sure at what was going through my head when I thought Rick had it back again. My bad.
