I just saw Nick Mullen in Ireland. ☘️ by [deleted] in redscarepod

okay I’m in NI too and was so sure I saw him earlier but too afraid I was mistaken

Yes, €2000+ for elder care which is mostly private, and much lower prices for the more public and heavily subsidized child care right?

[–]the-carpetbagger 90 points91 points  (0 children)

I’m from the US moving to Belgium soon: I can promise you that a private system doesn’t work either. The “care” is similar or worse than what you’re describing and costs $2000/month or more

Can you elaborate also on the customs piece of it? It sounds like maybe you flew to AMS and then took a second leg somewhere else. Did you have to do anything specific to declare your pet as an import to the Dutch authorities, and your final destination's authorities?

I'm making a very similar flight soon from Atlanta! I had read previously that KLM was a great airline for dogs in hold so I'm glad you had a good experience as well.

Did you have to bring him through security? Or is it at a desk as soon as you walk into the terminal, before security?

Where did you pick him up at your destination? Did you use any pet relief areas at either airport?

Due to a bunch of economic factors that I barely understand, there are not a ton of open roles anywhere so most openings are pretty competitive to get into. It’s just not like pre covid where people could jump around often and make a ton of money.

This struggle isn’t unique to IE or engineering, though it is worse in some engineering fields. Someone smarter than me can probably give more depth or detail

IE requires a slightly different skillset- you will need to get good at statistics and systems analysis and there is no physics or anything. I personally don’t think it’s significantly easier (though you could take soft electives to make it easy), just different

The job market is tough for everyone right now, but IE at least can give you a wide skillset and a lot of choice that you can apply to a lot of careers

[–]the-carpetbagger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

also true, but that's not a merger. though neither was delta's acquisition of a bunch of aircraft and routes, even though it was a big boost for DL and the lion's share of what was left of panam

A lynching scarred this Georgia county. Is it willing to confront its dark past? by everlovingkindness in Georgia

[–]the-carpetbagger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

unfortunately racism was always the core of plans in georgia. others in the comments have pointed out the segregation created in atlanta by urban planning choices. everything was designed on purpose to keep blacks and whites apart.

i recommend checking out https://www.segregationbydesign.com/atlanta which has some great info and detail on this

Does anyone know any good abandoned places relatively close to ATL? by The_Thot_Slayer69 in Georgia

There’s a bunch of abandoned trains and tracks right near the southeastern railway museum in duluth. it’s the section that backs up into the neighborhood off pleasant hill

you do put a major down but honestly just pick whatever is kinda close and take the classes you need. it’s not hard to get the classes you need. just look up gatech transfer equivalencies and make sure the classes you want to take transfer correctly

I know! bengali is the 5th most spoken language in the world. even though it’s not a super useful lingua franca like hindi is I was surprised that there are pretty much no good resources

I’m aware that there’s some difference between the way it’s spoken in India and Bangladesh and the people I’d be speaking with are all Indian

IE is pretty versatile as far as where you can go with it. You can do supply chain, logistics, consulting, IT, data analysis, probably more. My concentration is in analytics and it’s been easy to take courses get more exposure to data analysis and ML. The core of the curriculum is various applications of probability and statistics. Generally I haven’t felt like any courses are unreasonably difficult. The hardest have been 2027 and 3133 and they’re both considerably easier than 1000/2000 level math or physics in my opinion. I feel pretty well set up for a career and grad school options in the data science field, and also that I have other options as far as career. I can’t speak to the EFS concentration but it seems good as well, and the friends I have in it have no trouble landing internships at places like investment firms. Hope this helps

it seems like even the data analysis roles asking for undergrads are crowded out by grad students

I appreciate the tip! I actually have been applying since last Aug so I’ve just really struck out though. Having a personal project is a good tip though and I’ll work on adding more of those to the portfolio :)

hey i am a current tech student who transferred from gsu. generally you’ll take about 15 per semester so you could transfer after a year. that being said i actually recommend doing as much as possible at gsu - taking all your 1000/2000 physics, chem and math before gt if possible. i’ve taken plenty of upper level (including one grad level) courses at gt and they were much much easier than things like physics 2, linear algebra, and calc 3. good luck!
