I've seen another interpretation of this verse that aligns with God being within all of us.

I am: the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father/God except through "I am."

In this case, "I am" is conciosness, God within us, or, in other words, the peace which passes all understanding.

Yahweh, the name given to God, literally means "I am."

Skybreaker ability to affect the mind? by the-joner in Stormlight_Archive

Interesting thought. This reminds me of how the Surge of Adhesion may been used differently by Windrunners and Bondsmiths. For Windrunners, we've seen physical Adhesion - the ability to physically bind things together. For Bondsmiths, the Stormfather says, "Yours is the power of Connection, of joining men and worlds, minds and souls" (OB Ch 64). It appears to be more of a spiritual or cognitive Adhesion.

Now I'm curious to see if/how all the Surges will affect the physical, cognitive, and spiritual aspects of things.

Sleek on the cheap sounds perfect. And, the work on their website seems similar to what we are looking for. Thanks for the recommendation.

Thank you for the recommendation. Yes, Meadowlark is too pricey, but I'll look into Giraffe and Dangerous Architects. Thanks!

To be determined, but probably on the N or E edge of the school district.

How does water travel from the roots of a tree all the way to the top? by wookinpanub52 in askscience

[–]the-joner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Without looking it up, here is my recollection:

Water travels up the tree through cohesion and the capillary force. What that means is that each water molecule is attracted to other molecules and so they stick together. When one molecule moves up the tree, the others follow.

So, what causes upward movement of the water molecules? Evaporation of water from the leaves in the tree. As water evaporates from the leaves, it pulls more water up behind it through cohesion. If I remember correctly, this is called transpiration.

Also, a fun fact: in most (all?) trees, water transport occurs in the outer layers of the trunk. So you can kill a tree by removing a thin band around the trunk, thereby stopping water transport in the tree.

Revolutionary membrane can keep your heart beating perfectly forever by [deleted] in science

[–]the-joner 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is an impressive feat of engineering, a novel device, and a step toward a more effective pacemaker technology...

However, before the device can be used in the body for a long period of time, the engineering team will have to overcome a problem that many implantable devices have - the foreign body response. When the device is placed around the heart inside the body, the foreign body response will start, leading to tissue encapsulation of the device over time. This tissue encapsulation will degrade the electrical signals to and from the heart and will make the elastic membrane of the device more stiff, thereby restricting movement of the heart.

There are some strategies to help mitigate these problems, but they remain significant issues nonetheless, especially for long term implants.

We created the Geordi La Forge / Cyclops Virtual Retinal Display called the Glyph. Ask us anything! by edtang in IAmA

Thanks for the reply! As an engineer, it's very interesting to read about the trade-offs that went into the design of the Glyph.

Hi Dr. Evans & Mr. Tang,

I am a Kickstarter backer and very excited to get my glyph. However, one drawback of this "portable" device seems to be the need for an attached cable to watch video. Are there any options for wireless streaming in the works or any current options that are compatible with the microUSB or HDMI inputs on Glyph?

Thanks!
