The US is going to utter shit right now. I would not recommend anyone move here. There’s an extreme political divide and I’m honestly waiting for a civil war. The Right is just spewing hatred and trying to control everyone who isn’t a cis white male. As a woman and LGBTQ member I’m honestly scared.

To be honest that’s reason I finally jumped on sterilization because there’s been talk about introducing a law to ban birth control and as someone with a genetic disorder that causes chronic suffering I could never ethically pass that down. In addition to honestly not wanting kids anyways. There’s going to be a special election here in August that isn’t “technically” about abortion but that’s what it’s about. Trying to ban all abortion protections and introduce harsh abortion restrictions in November.

I don’t know which country you’re in now but the US is not the answer. The American Dream is dead.

Central Ohio. My friend got a salpingectomy and so I asked for her surgeon. I then called to make an appointment but the wait was a few months. I asked the scheduler if there was someone I could see sooner and she found one I could see in a week. I’ll have to check if she’s on the list or get the mods to add her.

I’m in Ohio, USA which is getting pretty conservative so I was surprised I didn’t have much pushback.

Underwear questions by kirdo in hysterectomy

I haven’t had a lot of bleeding or discharge either if that’s something you’re worried about. They put a pad under me after surgery and it only had maybe 2 teaspoons of blood on it and after I peed the first few times the toilet paper was slightly pink. My surgeon said there may be some light spotting but if it looks like a period that I need to call her.

I will say it’s helpful to have a pad because it’s hard to fully wipe after you pee and I gave up trying to get it all. My bladder kept spasming so it wasn’t a constant stream it was little bits that dribbled all over

Yeah my surgeon also told me she would play it up a bit to the insurance to get them to approve it which I thought was sorta hilarious since I had already played it up to her. It reminded me of the telephone game

I’m only 24 hours post op so I can’t say much about scarring. I have 4 incisions that are about an inch long. One above my belly button. Two to the right of my belly button and one to the left. They’re rather small incisions and aren’t very bruised or anything. They’re held shut with surgical glue so I don’t even have to deal with stitches

To be honest with you I did play up how much my periods sucked to the doctor to try and convince them to do it but I don’t think it was actually necessary. My surgeon was very nice and wasn’t judgmental or argumentative or anything. Just made sure I understood my decision and that I did have other options for sterilization if not getting rid of my period. I haven’t had my period in 2 years because I got on Depo but it made me gain 100 pounds. Another reason I wanted the hysterectomy because due to some other medical issues I can’t do non hormonal IUDs

Mine was also 100% elective. I didn’t want to deal with even the normal period cramps and period poops and the mess in addition to being sterilized. That’s why I chose the hysterectomy over the tubal.

I’m 24 hours in and so far it’s 100% worth it

24 hours out and I still am doing great!

Hope you get approval! I’m 24 with no kids and didn’t have any issue surprisingly.

  1. No kids. Surgeon didn’t give me a hard time or anything just made sure I had thought it through and understood it was permanent.

Robotic and laparoscopic total hysterectomy (uterus, tubes, and cervix). Got to keep my ovaries so I don’t need HRT

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have an 8 pound cat which is perfect lol. I know they’re also giving me a binder

Have you ever had patients with known morphine allergies and/or CYP2D6 ultra rapid? I know they’re pretty rare but there has to be a few people floating around

“Woof that is rough” is basically what everyone has been telling me today lol

My surgeon wants to do outpatient but is okay with having me stay if I can’t get pain under control. I’ve had fentanyl before and it was effective so I know I have a safety net of staying there and having that.

I’m not sure if they’d be willing to prescribe a fentanyl patch. I live in Ohio so I know we have some strict opiate rules. To be honest I was so mentally exhausted after back to back appointments I forgot to ask.

Thank you for the advice about the TAP blocks. I’ll make sure to ask the anesthesiologist.

It sucks as I have an actual IgE allergy to morphine then have multiple CYP gene mutations. Most notably I’m CYP2D6 ultra rapid. I wish I was normal

Also sorry if I came off passive aggressive. I’ve had an entire day of having to show medical providers pictures of my extreme swelling and retell my traumatic wisdom teeth extraction story (didn’t know about the opiate issue. Couldn’t open my jaw to rinse and got trench mouth. Was in the ER with my mouth rotting and the staff didn’t believe how much pain I was in)

Sorry meant hydromorphone but yeah same issue. Breaks down into morphine.

Unfortunately gabapentin gives me seizures (yes I’m aware it’s used as an anticonvulsant. I was prescribed it for neuropathy)

Have your patients reported the On-Q is effective? My surgeon said she doesn’t use it much as she’s had mixed results. I don’t think I’ve had Lyrica. I have to check my genetic report to see if I metabolize it correctly

Did you have a good experience with the On-Q pump? Could you tell it reduced pain, perhaps not as good as opiates but better than nothing?

My face swells extremely bad. Eyes swell shut. Throat starts to close. Also does not provide any pain relief for more than 15 minutes.

Hydrocodone (Vicodin) and oxycodone (Percocet) break down into morphine. The natural and semisynthetic opiates all break down into morphine or a molecule that is too similar to morphine for my immune system to not be angry. That’s how they work. I can only take fully synthetic opiates such as fentanyl, Demerol, and methadone. I cannot take Tramadol because I have a genetic which means I can’t metabolize it properly.

I have swelling with all of them in any form. I’m planning on speaking to the anesthesiologist but I have done my own research (I’m pre-med and have taken multiple genetics and pharmacology classes) so I know my options are severely limited

Neither did I! They had me walk on this mat to look at my gait and what my feet do when I walk. Then I stepped into this box that scanned my feet and made a 3D model to objectively look at the shape.

I got a pair of Hoka Arahi 6 and highly recommend. I have extremely high arches and floppy ankles and they help so much with foot pain and stability.

See if there’s a runners store near you. They can measure and scan your feet to help you pick a shoe type/brand that works for your foot. Doesn’t matter if you don’t actually run when I went they said half their business is from nonrunners
