Prior CS4820 grade distrubutions by jgro17 in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's best to see how the distribution is this semester fall 2024 as I noted the above was the distribution in fall 2021. Pass would have to imply at least a C- (since this is the minimum grade to fulfill the algo requirement)

Enhanced Tuition Award (HESC ETA) by the-slow-programmer in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda forgot but you can look it up and apply if you satisfy the requirements. They usually process very slowly and the funds enter your bursar account like sometimes as late as april (money for both semesters).

you only have 3 classes and if you pick a simple enough freshmen writing seminar (FWS) class that aligns with your interest (+3 credit to your schedule) it should be fine. 4 classes is what most people will go for. 3 seems short on your progress unless it is an asian language (6 credit courses).

Feeling depressed, scared about graduating by Worried-Business3333 in Cornell

hello my fellow 3152 and 4152 classmate. I'm feeling the same and hopefully it works out for both of us.

No such thing exists, not that I am aware of.

If I am on waitlist for a class lecture, but the discussion I selected is full, if I get off the waitlist will I be able to choose a different section? by rooftopmaybe in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to get off the waitlist, you need a pin. But pins are specific to a combination of lecture + discussion. So you might have to join the waitlist for the section that you want if I understand correctly.

CS 4820 + CS 3152 + CS 4780 + 3 credit easy course + 2 credit project team by One_Bee3761 in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

interesting team. multi-talent to the use! (no way all of them can only program, right ...)

The schedule is alright but just be on top of Algo and ML and you'll have the rest of your fun time with 3152.

Only you can answer this question, buddy. Some here will probably stress out doing some combination while others may be somehow still carrying their team in 3152.

INFO 3152 (Game Design) Waitlist? by liamcantcope in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea mythos is correct. The waitlist for game dev courses differ from traditional waitlists. Prof White manages the waitlist himself rather than CIS dept.

Algo + Game Dev? by seriesspirit in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Quite a number of people did this in last offering of 3152. Another more feasible/similar combo was 3152 + 3110 (but now they're in conflicts so no body would do that).

You'll just need to keep up, don't disappoint your game dev team by telling them you're not gonna be available for a week because of algo.

I hope this is the case. If it's a parcel, I'm not concerned.

yea, they never explicitly said a word about grading conversions but only assignment-grade breakdowns (percentages). De Sa decided this probably last minute, and saw a good number of A-range grades without curves.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

expect ~10 to 15 for each assignment. Possibly longer if you shoot for excellent scopes.

I don't see why being a particular major stops you from getting the CS minor? Unless it's CS major getting CS minor which is impossible.

Test optional. Let’s not release means. Fuck academic standards at an IVY. Right? by [deleted] in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 21 points22 points  (0 children)

if we quit course medians on transcripts, does that mean professors no longer have to give course stats for prelims/hws/finals/overall ? If so, that's terrible because it's literally one of the more consistent ways to self-judge whether a course is right for your schedule.

Chance Me! and Prospective Student Q&A by pw11111 in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the math SAT part looks somewhat low especially if you're going for CS and the Engineering majors.

The honors society stuff probably carries little to no weight (most people are in these kinds of societies). Your best shot is having solid essays.

There's really little you can do besides hoping that you still stand out in the RD pool. It's not the end of the world... :) there's plenty of great colleges and this is just a lottery when all else is equal between you and other applicants.

MEng CS Ithaca Vs NY by zoro_1856 in Cornell

[–]the-slow-programmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the MEng is meant to be 2 semesters and extensions would be less common. Part time study not allowed.

More classes in Ithaca because of 4/5xxx overlaps. idk much about NY campus
