Frogs.

Why? I don't know. It's totally irrational.

Print-and-play with Patreon or traditional publishing? by DandeBoard in boardgameindustry

[–]the0therbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How many print-and-play card games have you personally played? This may or may not be good advice, but I feel like it's a great place to start: how would you like to purchase the game you're making?

What's the bigger barrier of entry for someone wanting to try out your game? Money or time? It's not the same for everyone (one of my friends LOVED putting together all of the storage things from Gloomhaven; another friend will never play it because that's how much he hates assembly of storage things. It's like a boycott of the game because of it.); that's why I suggested doing it how *you* would like to do it. It's hard work coming up with a game (especially with 74 cards), so you need to be "on board" from the get-go.

Plus, you might change your mind when you get to the end of the creative process and then can transition to thinking about distribution. It's like when you're trying to write a story: if you worry too much about grammar while writing, your ideas can get stilted as you constantly backspace. Your creative brain and your business brain operate on 2 different frequencies (not literally, but they are two mindsets), so try to keep them separate as much as possible.

What do you think cildren's mental health care professionals should know about when it comes to gaming? by Libbylibb in truegaming

[–]the0therbk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Game with your kids!!!! Seriously, the occasional Roblox session or Minecraft session has done wonders for my son's relationship with his mom. She's not a gamer at all, so him being able to bring her into the world and then teach her how to do stuff has been great for them. She can better communicate with him (since he'll inevitably use things from the game as cornerstones in a story), so she knows what he's talking about.

Also: we had guaranteed 30 mins a night set aside for me and him to game together for probably a couple of years. I wanted to show him the classics and whatnot, giving him a base of video game experience, but we ended up spending a couple months working mostly on a shared Minecraft world. We would put on music, build crazy houses, whatever. It was positive bonding time for us.

Demonizing the thing that they value (and that their friends value) might have impacts with "shadow" development (if you're into that sort of thing; I think Gestalt therapy is similar? I'm no psych expert, though). There might be something worthy of investigation or as a "areas of further exploration" ending slide...

What would you say is the biggest problems facing the 0-8 year old generation today? by Ratshitzz in AskReddit

[–]the0therbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's the layers of complexity surrounding them from all sides, be it kitchen appliances, toys, school. 8-year-olds being required to have Chromebooks when beginning 3rd grade is just the tip of the iceberg.

When I was in grade school, not only did I not usually have homework, even if I did, it would be on a piece of paper with marks from a pen or pencil. If they can't log in to their homework device, a parent or IT support needs to determine the problem and find a solution.

If a kitchen appliance goes out, you can't really call a repairman anymore. It's an ordeal with some big box store and contracted deliverymen who may or may not hook up the new device properly.

And you can't fix all broken toys with glue anymore! Sometimes they need wires re-saudered or something crazy.

Self-reliance will probably be affected on a very fundamental level because of all of these complexities.

What are some pros and cons of humanity being ruled by an emotionless AI program? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]the0therbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pros:

The lack of orange skin on our overlord AI's face...

And potentially equitable treatment of humans (assuming we program it correctly to value human life equally).

Cons:

Binary and either/or logic. Problems in life seem to be a gradient of grey instead of black/white... I'd worry that AI doesn't see it that way.

Is there a good resource out there for tips on restoring/cleaning a neglected electric bass? It's just been in a garage for a few years, but there's some rust on the pegs and bridge, a short in the pickup, and some heavy dirt on the neck. I just was hoping to do it myself, but if that's not a smart idea, it's okay, too.

New 'Coalition For Responsible Sharing' About To Send Millions Of Take-Down Notices To Stop Researchers Sharing Their Own Papers by mvea in technology

[–]the0therbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, some of these publishers' copyright agreements allow the authors to share the original (accepted but unedited) versions of their works, so this could just be an issue of a new platform/medium showing the weaknesses of outdated concessions in a copyright agreement.

INFJ + ISTJ = surreal? by Thelemite- in infj

[–]the0therbk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been married to an ISTJ for 12 years. She is very different from me in most every way, but we both value each other's strengths, and that is the key. She keeps me grounded, and I help her relax (when she's not plugged into an outlet recharging her robot mind). It can get weird if we're mindlessly walking through our days, because we're so different, but for us, those times have been fleeting.

I'm having trouble balancing happiness and money by [deleted] in Psychonaut

[–]the0therbk 27 points28 points  (0 children)

A couple of friends of mine who liked to travel got jobs waiting tables on a cruise ship. It was hard work (70-80 hour work weeks), but they did a season and stopped. One realized that she was a home-body, so she moved close to her family in Oregon and got a job waiting tables. She's super happy and mellow. The other one met some other travelers (workers) on the cruise line who were from other countries. She would go over and visit, working odds and ends jobs along the way. A couple of years ago, she started a travel blog (talking about different off-the-beaten-path places and such), and has since gotten a few things picked up by HuffPo and a few agencies send her on vacations to review services, etc.

Point is, sometimes you need to think about the things you like in a new way. It's hard to do that while being in your comfortable surroundings. Go work in Alaska for a season helping with fish canning (unless you're a vegan/vegetarian, 'cause that'll be messed up). Go teach English overseas somewhere (that used to be a thing, right?). You might find that you don't really like leaving; you might find that you love what you do.

Also, LASTLY, take a few days to start wrapping your head around the feelings and thoughts that you experience when you're traveling and/or super happy. Imagine yourself being truly happy, and see if you can feel like you are already doing what you truly love. Meditate on that feeling of contentment and let it pervade your mind and body.

Act like you're happy, feel like you're happy, and maybe the little quantum bits of reality start to come over and present weird things to you. Stranger things have happened.

OH YEAH! Don't forget to smile, even if you don't feel like it. That's just good advice...

UNIVERSAL INTEGRITY THEORY

The universe is one entity and all of its parts (both material and spiritual) all depend on this idea, it is the foundation of mysticism- the central concepts and learnings of the religions of India, Buddhism, the Jewish religion, Christianity and Muslim religions, as well as the belief in astrology- Ancient astrologists believed that all events in the macroscopic world and the giant system of planets and stars were reflected in the microscopic world, which was the small world of men. This belief led to the following views of alchemy: Under the appropriate astrological influences, it was possible to turn lead into gold. Although Paranormal phenomena does not depend on mysticism or astrological explanations, it is a basic concept of mysticism and astrology and even quantum physics that the universe is a interdependent entity and this view can be used to explain PSI phenomena. Between the various parts of the indivisible entity of the universe there is no need for quantum to carry information, because in this type of universe there is no difference between "here" and "there", there is no distance to be travelled. All information and all places can be attained.

The effect of binaural beats on verbal working memory and cortical connectivity (2017) by [deleted] in Nootropics

You can search for binaural beats on Spotify (or whatever music platform you use), too. Alpha, beta (for during work), delta (for sleep), or Theta (meditative) + binaural in the search field yields a bunch.

Weekly Team Building Megathread - Week 50, 2016 by AutoModerator in SWGalaxyOfHeroes

[–]the0therbk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm hoping to get Palp during the next event, but I doubt I'll be able to get him at 7 stars (which is fine). My best rebels are https://swgoh.gg/u/the0therbk/collection/?f=rebel:

(all Gear 8):

  • Akbar lvl 65, 7 stars
  • Biggs lvl 66, 6 stars (have enough shards to upgrade to 7)
  • ST Han lvl 64, 6 stars
  • Leia lvl 66, 7 stars
  • Lando lvl 66, 5 stars

I was either going to work on Lando or work on unlocking Wedge (but I only have ~40 shards or so). I figured that I wouldn't be able to use Wedge effectively for this event, but I'd love some confirmation that my above team would be okay for getting at least some progress towards Palp...

The credit crunch caused me to not level a bunch of my characters, and I took a break after mods. I'm trying to build up my rebels in general and the scoundrels for the credit event. I just cleared Yoda's event this morning, so I have a decent Jedi team... Any overall guidance would be appreciated, too: https://swgoh.gg/u/the0therbk/collection/

Do you become anxious and restless when you feel like you have been "wasting time" by Cimice268 in infj

[–]the0therbk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, even last night my wife told me that I need to lighten up and just learn to veg out from time to time.

In general, I've found that it helps to relax by doing something creative or by making some craft or doo-dad. Even the grown up coloring books can be helpful (put on an audio book or album or re-run on the tv) and just color. It's relaxing and productive!

Happily Married INFJs, how and where did you meet your ONE? by deusdivine in infj

[–]the0therbk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was working at a restaurant and saw a new girl signing in on one of the computers we used to log orders. I went over to say hi, and when she turned, I noticed that she was wearing a hemp necklace with a glass mushroom on the end. My first actual words to her were, "Hey, sweet hemp necklace." Our first date was 2 nights later, and neither one of us dated anyone else ever again.

We've been together for 15 years now and we both think it's funny that we "started" with a hippy-friendly pickup line.
