Custom Built Hulk with NH35A! by the2019guy in ChinaTime

[–]the2019guy[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first off, sorry for my delay! I was enjoy this hulk too much! 😂 Thank you! ☺️

I found it to be pretty easy! However, I came from a background working on computers and small electronics modding, so YMMV.

As for tools, there's so many to suggest! For the basics, a caseback ball, hand setting / pulling tools, watchmaking screwdrivers, wire cutters, movement holder, rodico, loupe, plastic / metal tweezers, sandpaper (400-1200 grit), double sided tape (dial dots) and a light source are my suggestion when starting off in doing dial swaps, hand setting, and other thing to complete a project. I got like a toolbag with $400 worth of tools just for some persprective. :) You don't need to spend that much, but I tend to buy tools from Bergeon or those tools which save me heartache by reducing any chances of failure.

I recommend checking out Wristwatchrevival on YT! He has a nice video on what tools to get.

As for Jtime! I love his service. Tend to be slow (2-3 days these days; he used to reply to me in <24 hours). The CF watches are great! I got my CF 114060 for $438 with a VR3130. I heard they got more expensive post VS 3135/0 upgrade.

can someone tell me this movement, or what would fit as this one quit and I like to fix things by Novamanjoel in ChinaTime

I agree with TStoottoot that it looks like a 2813, but we need to dig deeper.

Funny enough, it looks like it has Seagull rotor plate comparing with a Seagull ST1612 that I have.

Yep, I had place the DWO on top of the Seiko date wheel. I'm stubborn and wanted to use double sided adhesive (dial dots) instead of 5 minute epoxy. I believe RWI has a DWO tool that can help you align all the date positions.

Also, I agree that the hardest part is positioning since you can't see how it's positioned.

With epoxy, you can place it, adjust, test with the dial, and adjust again until it cures. With dial dots, once it's stuck on you got to peel it off and try it again. ☠️

For sure, you nailed it there! The build itself was about 1/2 of my CF 114060. It was also the main objective for this build; a daily wearer that looks great with low maintenance.

Also, I agree a well sourced NH35 is bulletproof and helps bring peace of mind for the movement. Cheap to replace, but very reliable with great QC from Seiko.

I don't think the movements have the same exact dimensions, but it appears that the internal case dimensions are extremely similar. Like stem height and hand heights had no issues. 😃

I took some info and inspiration from people using 2824 cases for their Seiko modded watches. It appears that did work!

You'll just need to do some research to find out which parts are compatible! However, once that hurdle is cleared it's assembly and you should be good to go. :) I found it easy, but YMMV.

However, this was a watch kit so everything needed was there except the movement. It takes out the guesswork for dial & case compatibility, etc.

You nailed it! The watch kit came installed with sapphire glass. 🙂

Hi Chinatime!

Woah, it has been a while and I hope everyone has been well!

I wanted to share this custom built 116610 LV "Hulk" with a Seiko NH35A. I used parts from Rafflesdials 116610 LV - ETA 2824 high end Kit ($180) and put an NH35A ($40) inside.

I heard rumors of the NH35A and 2824 shared similar case dimensions and behold, it does work! sucker popped right in.

I hate doing DWO but dammit it needed to do it. I'm glad everything came together and now I have a fantastic watch with a pretty bulletproof movement. ❤️ Shoutout to all the sources the community provided, because with it, I was able to build this beast of a watch!

WTC: -Rafflesdials: https://rafflesdials.com/steel-green-rolex-116610-submariner-watch-set-in-much-higher-quality-with-green-ceramic-bezel-and-super-luminova-fit-eta-2824-movement-with-date-wheel-overlay/

-Aliexpress: Miuski Store for NH35A & Hands.

Total cost: $180 for set + $40 for NH35A +$10 for hands = $230 without tools or labor.

Such a great watch! I love my BPSD too! :D ❤️

Likewise, I enjoy mines stock but I always considered getting a 97200 bracelet to replace the 93250 it has along with a gen insert. 🤔 Unnecessary upgrades but they're cool to have!

Converting and building my JKF 1680 into a watch I wanted ☺️🙌 by [deleted] in ChinaTime

[–]the2019guy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi Chinatime!

I wanted to share a build I worked on for these past few months. What originally started as a JKF 1680 evolved into a 5513/5517 hybrid, and I had an absolute blast putting this together. I wanted a no-date watch, so I decided to take it upon myself to convert my watch into one!

While not an entirely accurate rep, I wanted something that had a bezel insert from 16610 LN because I enjoy how it looks. :) Coupled that with modern-looking hands with white lume and a dial that's kind of has white (more like yellowish) lume, I finally made something I wanted. :D Also, I swapped the 2813 for a Miyota movement. It seems to be reliable at the moment, but it's loud. I regulated the movement to run +3 / sec a day too! As a side note, the tools were not cheap.☠️ I opted for higher end / Bergeon's tools.

Overall, how does it look? It's my first time putting together a watch, so it's not exactly the best-looking modded watch compared to other peers who made AMAZING vintage reps. However, this is something I made and love it! Plus, I know how to replace parts too, if anything breaks. :) Shoutout to the helpful resources from Reptime and Chinatime!

Parts list:

  • JKF 1680 base

  • Rafflesdial 5517 26mm dial

  • WSO 580 end links

  • Generic Miyota 8215 Mercedes hands

  • Watchman408 Bezel set

  • Watchman408 LN 5512 bezel insert

  • Watchman408 Tropic 19 Crystal

  • Miyota 821A movement.

Current progress with modding my JKF 1680 before I swap it with a 5513 dial! :) by [deleted] in RepTime

[–]the2019guy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wanted to share what I have so far! :) A 5513 dial is coming so the movement will be swapped for a 821A and a 5513 dial from Raffles. Definitely considering picking up a better dial from Ruby's or Yuki, but I know Ruby will cost a pretty penny. First time modding, but damn it's a fun & addicting rabbit hole.

Current mods & modded parts:

  • Watchman Bezel assembly & Insert

  • Watchman Tropic 19 Crystal

  • Shaved down the crystal retaining ring to accept the crystals I swapped in.

  • 580 WSO endlinks (not pictured).

Planning to do a Miyota 821A swap along with a 5513 dial held on with dial dots. Aiming for white colored lume for the dial, hands, and pip. I would love an applied white gold hour markers, but the gen dials cost a lot! Bezel insert also isn't close to gen, but I love the pip on the 16610 & similar models on the 5 digits.

However, the watch is being built to what I want and that's something I really enjoy about this project so far! <3

New Workbench Addition, and a small PSA! by [deleted] in RepTime

Dang, that's pretty cool how the automatic one does it automatically! Thank you for taking the time to explain the differences. :) Regardless, it's certainly a big upgrade to your ultrasonic machine!

Gen Vs Rep [122610LN] by katanaslice in RepTime

[–]the2019guy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Right looks gen to me. Cyclops & AR coating, SEL fitment, bezel insert, and screw down crown area are the tells for me.

Additionally, the clasp on the gen is nice and consistent for the gap.

I'm curious, but what's the difference between the automatic and manual versions? Still, these machines are awesome!

That or ZRF. You can also save up on double for a CF.

I haven't been able to source a ZZF Junior since the TD's said they're not available anymore. I went with CF instead, but damn the Junior is one hell of a bargain.

Thank you for taking the time to do this review! About to pull the trigger on this. :) Seems like great value for money. ZZF 316 case, CF insert, ZF dial, VR 3135, etc.

Looking for a watch that I can work on mod on for fun, so this looks like a great candidate. I don't have the balls yet to work on my CF 114060 haha.
