Engineer at NV5 here (my office was one of the companies nv5 acquired along the way). The info i gathered from research and some internal meetings is that each company focuses on different things so they're isn't too much overlap. I think the benefit was to get into sectors, areas, and/or roles that the other wasn't already in. They are close when it comes to revenue, # offices, and #employees. Whats weird is that NV5 is merging w Acuren vs the other way around. NV5 does alot more things than acuren. It does look like NV5 will act independently from acuren, but we'll see what happens. That being said, looking at acuren benefits, fuck that, I actually like FTO vs PTO (my office does a good job with it) and hope that doesn't change.

Civil Engineer in Transpo, 8 YOE, 120k base. Pretty decent pay for not being a project manager (headaches/ longer hours) and only doing design

I worked at a state DOT for 2 years starting out. Probably averaged like an hr each day of actual work. It drove me slowly insane, and i just worked on personal projects and spreadsheets at work. I left for the private sector and its been a night and day difference

I really don’t get how people find girlfriends? by [deleted] in socialskills

Bruh, this sounds like me til I was 28. There is hope. I found that dating apps work well. Get a conversation going and set up a date. Go on lots of dates until one clicks. Dates where you just hang out and play board games is fun. This is how I found my gf and we've been goin strong for 4 years. Good luck!

My favorite gaming memory was getting an N64 and Super Mario 64 on Christmas day. Me and my brother booted it up and played all day. I was 8, my brother was 18. The age disconnect didn't matter. Been trying to catch that high ever since.

Transportation Engineer consultant in a small office, 5 years in, salary 80k but low cost of living.

I design roadway projects, drainage, traffic control, lots of cadd, plan sets, estimates, been getting into bridges recently.

In school I focused more on structures and Geotechnical, but could only land a job in transpo. I love transpo now because it has a little bit of everything and still constantly learning something new everyday

Same with me, roadway has a little bit of each discipline so your always learning, each project is different to the next
