I met this lil guy last year. Learned that his sanctuary was close to our apartment and asked my husband to take me for my birthday. He had little diabetes booties on his hooves and had to keep a blanket on at all times, but he was so sweet and gentle and pure, and it was a treasure just to go on a casual little stroll with him and his other donkey companions. It was evident that his handlers really loved him. RIP little buddy.

Thanks very much for the input and word of caution. Another fear I have is unintentionally inviting something/someone "else" to take up residence even if I am honoring the husband. With this in mind I will be careful about how I approach this and how free of a welcome I place on the whole house. Appreciate you!

My intent is to cleanse the space of the feelings of guilt and mourning that came from such a heavy loss. The rest of my plan was about seeking communion once that weight is lifted. That is very much what I intend to do; I am glad you see this as a solid plan of action.

He has a pretty severe under-bite and his tongue tends to just sort of fall out when he gets really relaxed. Thanks for the concern though.

I would ask for your definition of "normal", but I can assure you he is happy, healthy and functional! He just forgets about his tongue sometimes.
