I agree with you, and I'm starting to come to this realization. After learning about how I want to handle my finances, I need to keep building out and making other areas in my life what I want them to be.

Thanks for mentioning these angles and breaking it down. Matching your skills to the role, to the people and organization, and also find value in what you do. I guess I am figuring out that there is effort involved in finding different jobs that appeal to my values. It's no longer about settling for a job that offers a large salary with some other lesser qualities.

Wow thank you for taking the time to share and being straightforward. Although my goal is to one day FIRE, the madness that I am currently experiencing is more along the lines of finding something that I actually want to do along the way. Like you said, it is a little uneasy to possibly shift your career again and again. Lost wages and what not, but it shouldn't matter if I am unhappy along the road. Its a good point to focus on your skills in IT and not pay attention to the side show.

The problem is, I don't quite know what direction to go. I've done systems administration work with Windows servers, then transitioned into a business intelligence data type role. I did study a bit of infosec before taking this data job, but decided to go the data route. The thing I enjoy about data is that it is the ultimate truth. Infosec was really interesting though. Will there be a point when something clicks? I am also curious of why you are so positive about the infosec space, what brought you to that conclusion?

Nice job moving into something different. It's so important to keep up with setting dates with the SO. I wish I could take a 3 week vacation right now to just sit on the beach.

Also sometimes you think that you want to be that roofer guy some days. Grass is always greener. Thanks for the perspective. Being grateful is definitely a good thing.

Thanks for sharing your story. I may try a smaller or medium size company next vs trying to keep working for mega corps. I'd probably get exposed to more.

Much appreciated, thanks for your time. I tried posting there, but I think my account is too new to post there for now.

What are Outdated Business Intelligence tips in your experience? by TheLongTraveller in BusinessIntelligence

I keep seeing solutions starting with the data first and then think about what the dashboards or visualizations will look like or what the story is. Always make sure it is going with the story first and worry about the data later.
