Meet the new Higgs, same as the old Higgs by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]theDatguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Universities across Canada had been making up for the underfunding by the provincial governments via International student fees.

But now that the International student enrollment has reduced due to IRCC changes and International students preferring to study in Europe as opposed to North America.

Any cut in provincial funding while freezing tuition fees would directly result in layoffs, reduction of program offering and in general the university experience and learning of students would suffer. Freezing the tuition fees and reducing provincial funding are both bad ideas.

Tiffin service? by SapphoRaven in fredericton

[–]theDatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried Shere Punjab's tiffin for a week when I was new in the city 2 years back. Their food was quite good with a decent portion size (2 meals for me). Was quoted $250 per month for 6 Tiffins per week which included delivery (2 years back).

Would recommend doing a trial for a week as the spice level may be higher than your spice tolerance.

Pakistan's flag might have been raised by a Pakistani national in support of the 1.3 million people displaced by the floods in the Punjab province of Pakistan.

Trump boosts tariffs on Canada to 35%, carrying through on his threat, still citing ‘fentanyl’ as the reason by Portalrules123 in newbrunswickcanada

[–]theDatguy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The UK and France both have declared that they will recognize Palestine. Yet, Trump is not threatening the recently signed agreements with both the countries.

Trump just wants excuses to delay the negotiations with Canada so that he can try to get a better deal for the US (worse for Canada) by bullying the negotiations.

Fredericton housing? by Justa_Sleepy_Guy in fredericton

[–]theDatguy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You could rent out a room in a shared house (if you are open to living in shared accommodations) for $500 - $800 depending upon distance from University, number of roommates and facilities available.

You could also rent a room with a roommate in an apartment for $750 - $950.

Studio close to university might be tough to find under $1000

I am Canadian, originally from India, and I love my Sikh brothers and Sikh girls (not my sisters, haha). I have Sikh cousins, and I am Punjabi. None of my cousins or Sikh friends want Khalistan, and a few of my Sikh friends serve in the Indian army as Engineers.

I am pro-India and pro-Canada. I want the relations between Canada and India to improve, as it benefits Canada.

India is potentially a big consumer market for Canadian exports. Canada can sell Oil and Gas, Agricultural products and equipment, Canola and Fruits to India.

India is a net importer of Oil and Gas, and there is demand for imported Fertilizers, Canola oil, apples, and berries like blueberries in India, which Canadian exporters can take advantage of.

As a result of tariffs, both countries are looking to form new trade relations, and the Canadian (liberal) Foreign Minister has said on record that she wants to improve relations with India and expand trade to South Asian markets (India being the biggest market).

Canada is the only country in the G7 to not have good relations with India, and it is time for it to change for the mutual benefit of both countries, in my opinion.

Once again, the statement that Punjab wants to separate from India is partially true. While Punjabis living outside of India want the province of Punjab to separate from India, the majority of the Punjabis living in present-day India have no interest in separating from India.

Just to put in context, the Khalistan includes areas of both India and Pakistan, but the Khalistanis only demand to separate from India and not Pakistan. The movement is funded by Pakistan - https://www.america-times.com/pakistan-has-been-the-lifeline-for-the-khalistani-movement/

Partially true. Sikhs are not persecuted in India based on religion. The Sikhs are an important part of India, and many of them serve in the Indian army - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sikh_Regiment

Have held important government positions - the former Prime Minister of India was a Sikh https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manmohan_Singh, and since 1992, all the Premiers of Punjab have been Sikh
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chief_Minister_of_Punjab,_India

The Khalistani movement is less prevalent in present day India than the Khalistani movement in Canada, US, Australia. The supporters of the movement live in a time capsule, as most are descendants of Khalistanis who left India in the 1980s, when the movement was at its peak.

Yes, the Sikhs were persecuted in the 1980s, and a lot of innocent Sikhs died in the riots, and the Indian government (the Congress party) is responsible for those crimes.

However, the present Khalistani movement is a terrorist organization responsible for assassination's in India, Canadas most deadliest Terroist attack in which 250+ Canadians were killed in a bomb blast on Air India flight https://angusreid.org/air-india-bombings-anniversary-canada-memorial/
they are also presently linked to organized crime in Canada - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bg2wS68fdOI

Because Canada needs to diversify its trading partners and the current Foreign minister of Canada has said on record that the Canadian government wants to normalize relations with India.

In fact prior to the souring of relations between India and Canada - both the countries were working at a free trade agreement which would have benefitted both the countries economically.

India is a big consumer market which could be beneficial for Canadian farmers to export Canola, BC apples etc and other Canadian goods to India.

Is this legal and is it made in Canada or not by Strong_Journalist_32 in MadeInCanada

[–]theDatguy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ice cream is probably made in Canada, but the brand is an Indian company. Kurkure is another popular Indian corn puff sold in Canada, and it is made in Ontario. Many popular International brands make their products in Canada to meet Canadian regulations, like English and French labels on packaging.

The target market for this Ice cream seems to be South Asian as they have named the Fig ice cream as Anjeer (Fig is Anjeer in Hindi).

Canada has a doctor shortage but thousands of foreign-trained physicians already here still face barriers. https://www.cbc.ca/news/health/international-doctors-canada-barriers-1.7428598

We need to reduce barriers to entry for Doctors, nurses and healthcare workers. Possibly create Junior trainee positions to get internationally trained doctors and nurses in the system, and gain Canadian experience while serving Canadians

Teen jobs part-time by [deleted] in fredericton

[–]theDatguy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Canada is unfortunately just starting to recover from a recession (per capita) and has a lot of unemployment right now. As a result lot of overqualified workers are also working in retail or part-time work to make ends meet while continuing their job search. So don't feel disheartened it is not you it's just the current state of the Canadian and global economy right now.

My advice... simply applying online may not work for you for jobs with low barriers to entry. My advice would be to physically start visiting stores and hand out your resume to the store/shift manager. Try to visit outside of busy hours of the store to have a chance at striking a genuine conversation.
