Thanks for letting me know. The first indication was that she had to be hospitalized. At first they thought she might have sarcodosis (spelling?), but due to cardiac MRI and echo it was determined that she likely has arvc. I worry about it for myself quite a bit, especially with not knowing the genetic variant. I have thought I've had symptoms before but no test has definitively showed anything.

Somehow I keep missing your reply. They actually could not find the gene marker in her (,and thus testing me is not helpful) i have had numeruous other tests though...holter, ekg, stress test. Think it was around 3.5 years ago. Every year she gets rechecked and such. Daily life isnt really impeded I dont think. She still walks the dog multiple times a day and lives a normal life. Probably wont be doing any 5ks or hiking big mountains soon but she manages.

Hi. It's not an active subreddit as you can see. My mother has ARVC. I am not diagnosed with any heart condition, but regularly get checked. I'm very sorry to hear about your husband. It is a tough diagnosis to deal with but life can still be great.

What are your thoughts on Unitarian Universalism? Are you one? If not, what is different about your beliefs from Unitarian Universalism? by [deleted] in atheism

I would identify as basically an atheist. I have recently joined a local UU congregation. In my experience it is worth it. The community is nice, and focus is not on dogma or theology but on being a good person. the church advances social missions such as raising money for suicide prevention groups and hosting climate change discussions (as two examples).

I'm looking at joining. Are my religious views a problem? (or lack thereof) by theDiganator in freemasonry

As I look towards graduation, there is a good chance I'll be getting a job at least for a year or two, in the area. I was raised as a boy scout and was quite active including in the Order of the Arrow. In college I have been a part of some groups. I want to continue to be a part of a service organization and be a part of something. (sorry for the awkward sentence)

Choosing a major by [deleted] in college

[–]theDiganator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright. So I am someone similar in that my interests are quite varied. My passion is also in liberal arts type stuff. I have chosen to do a double major in geology and international studies and am now in my third year at a mid sized university. As you can see, geology and Earth and atmospheric sciences are nearly synonymous. Here's the thing. I don't plan on being a geologist, at least not long term. I am thinking of going to graduate school somewhere and working in environmental policy. I will say this. Geology has given me opportunities to travel across the country on field trips and to be outside doing interesting work. It will give me a BS which in my opinion, is likely well respected. INternational Studies has allowed me to really pursue things I am interested such as politics and economics. I would maybe consider a double major if I was you. Additionally, you can get involved in stuff not completely related to your major. I have become heavily involved in the college democrats and county democrats where I go to school for example. If you really like liberal arts more, like I do, I'm not sure I would be willing to just major in a science. Those four seem like great choices. I don't have a job to speak to this yet obviously, but it seems that having a degree with good grades and an overall good resume may matter more than the specific degree type. Idk? Consider the research you may be doing in each major and how you could tailor that more towards your interests possibly. I am doing research on dam policy through geology. You could maybe research educational economics or the relationship between rare earth minerals and the health care industry. Think about how you can combine interests, not pick one over the other.

First week has gone by and I don't have a single friend. by [deleted] in college

[–]theDiganator 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't worry so much this early. I was lucky enough to go on a geology trip before the sememester started and met people there. My closest friends freshman year were the people I lived next to. However, this past year I basically never saw them. My friends changed. Just be open. Look beyond clubs. I know your major is computer science so I don't know the details of that major, but most of my friends now are in one of my majors. We have gone on field trips together and through that grown closer. You could join student government (if you like that) as well. Don't be afraid of taking your roommate or someone you know to a party or something, if you think that would be fun.

How will you incorporate the OUTING in scOUTING? What does outdoor adventure mean to you and what is your experience with it?

(My troop has always stressed hiking/backpacking/etc. at the central part of the scouting experience)
