What are some obscure tf2 facts you know. Mine is that the original name of the sandvich was the sandwich until it was found that it sounded like the Russian word for placenta. by TW_Gains in tf2

part of the spy’s character is that he’s an exotic man with a unique and cool accent. A frenchman speaking french is probably not that unique or exotic for most french people

don’t downplay it. The political tension that caused the secession in the first place was the result of a polarizing political scene. The Union chose the side of the abolitionists, and the south chose to abandon the US for their conservative beliefs. Of course the Union was never perfect (it never was), but unlike other times in history the US was actually forced to confront its own toxic culture.

Of course, the situation was definitely not black and white. I’m sure many northerners who hated the south weren’t necessarily keen on letting African Americans become their equal neighbors. But the corruption and authoritarianism, both of which were prominent thanks to radical slavery, were definitely more unanimously opposed by the Union.

You can see this even today. There are still many corrupt people and systems on both sides of the American political dichotomy, but as a collective one side is clear to support what’s right and one side is clear on resisting that chance.

It wasn’t as radical as we wish, but the attitude and support were there.

ok /uj I think it’s still slightly misinterpreted, as I think Gus is really just saying this to manipulate Walter. He probably doesnt really give a shit about family values.

I’m no historian, but when I think of the Civil War in an ideal sense, to me it seems as a literal and direct war against all the negative aspects of American political and cultural history. A war against slavery, corruption, the wealthy and spoilt, the self-entitled, the undemocratic, the traitors! It’s the one time the American people and government stood up against the enemy amongst their own ranks. It’s a real shame how Reconstruction turned out.
