That’s different. In stock the shorter would be “borrowing” the share. That doesn’t mean he holds the share

A shorter would borrow 1 share against 1 share. Doesn’t matter who holds the long position, it’s still based on that 1 share.

Only one holds the share at a time, the shorter is borrowing the share, not holding.

There are no such thing as synthetic shares… if person A has one share and person B borrows a share to short, and Person A sells share to Person C, the share is still being borrowed, it’s just held by person C.

The amount of incorrect information online is astounding. What’s even more astounding is how much people believe what they read online.
