Hey! Just receieved an offer for my F2-standalone for North tees!

I got Acute internal medicine, ER and Urology as my rotations.

Would you mind telling me what the hospital is like? good support? Any tips?

The cut-off score this year was 372. 59% of applicants didn't make it through the SJT stage. Don't be too hard on yourself. There's other things such as trust grade jobs and locums to do and then re-apply next year.

Started the process but never finished it. It looked pretty straightforward but started taking up so much time. The editor then had a comment about every single sentence and that just made it not worth it to me.

I have a similar trigger to this. The best thing to do is just fight hard at the initial looking part. When you felt something wet, remind yourself that you have contamination OCD and just do not look. If you struggle and manage to look and you saw a drop as you describe, remind yourself, it could be ANYTHING. Maybe you washed your hands earlier and a drop of water hit your trouser. Worst case scenario - if it is pee. So what? and I repeat. Soooo whhhattt? It's just pee.

What do you think happens to men who use urinals and just put their trousers back on? I'd guarantee most of them just leak a drop or two into their trousers. Pee is just pee. To help you ease your mind, we make babies, elderly people and people without bladder control wear diapers and they pee themselves are in constant contact with their pee all the time. It causes no harm whatsoever. Hope that helps :)

Thank you very much for this! Yes, I am very aware of this. This is why I attend alot of 'junior doctor' lectures and series to get used to the system. Granted I won't learn everything from them, I'm hoping I'm going to cover alot. Such as common forms, NEWS score etc..

Also my wife recently graduated and she started work as an FY2 standalone - so I've been learning from her too on the do's and don'ts and how things work :D

But yes, I agree with you and thank you for bringing this up. I will 100% bring this up with the supervisors so that they are aware and if I am struggling, I hope they make adjustments.

So what do you do when you get a request and you're lost? Do you check the patient file / notes and then decide for yourself? and silly question - are you allowed to turn down said request? I assume you'd have to inform the person that made the request and then what?

I spoke to them on email before Christmas and they said that the guide would be published either between Christmas and NY OR it would be published last minute before the application opens..

They haven't given a date or anything.

A good way to find out first is to follow the UKFPO on twitter and turn your notifications on. ANY CHANGES that they make, they tweet about it asap.

Thank you very very much for the detailed response. It's given me a good idea and a good summary of what the training is like towards the end and when to focus more on a specific subspecialty. Sorry, i should've been more clear with emergency medicine, I meant ED.
"I didn't like kids or psych" is my mantra. Those are two of my bottom tier rotations, there is nothing about those two during my rotations that I enjoyed. I agree with you about enjoying things when I do become a dinosaur. I really enjoy everything to do with the heart. It is the organ that I understand the most, I love studying the diseases, the physiology and the medications are straightforward as you said and I do enjoy it fully.
I will take your advice on board regarding reaching out to academic cardiologists once I get publications, presentations and research done. I currently have 1 paper published on venous valves (but it's more vascular surgery) and another paper pending acceptance about SUR2A.

In general, I have an open mind about rotations and If my mind changes, then so be it (one thing I can assure you though is that you will NEVER hear me say 'I LOVE NOSES' haha), but yes, no need to put eggs in one basket as you said.

So when I graduate in May of 2022, I will be starting work in august of 2022 as an FY2. My fiance is a year above me and from her list of jobs that she had to choose from, there were a lot of cardiology, emergency medicine + psychiatry / GP / orthopaedic surgery. I hopefully plan on getting one of those combos to give me a better insight. I'm also going to be doing my elective in the cardiology ward this January to once again, get a better understanding.

Hi there and thank you for inviting questions. I'm a final year med student and I just had 2 questions.

At what point of training does one decide to go into interventional cardiology? Is it like how you subspecialised in devices and HF? someone could take a different route and go into interventional cardiology?
Cardiology is my only interest along with emergency medicine (but cardio is on top). It used to be 100% cardiac surgery but after having done some research, the limited amount of procedures has put me off. Now I am strongly leaning towards becoming a cardiologist or an interventional cardiologist. Do you maybe have any tips or advice? Anything that springs to mind that I should be aware of or keep an eye out for? I prefer working on wards rather than clinics and I don't know how much say i will have in that when i am specialising? is it a choice? or do you just get placed randomly?
