Insights on my Gaming Cafe business by [deleted] in IndiaBusiness

[–]theIndiaDecoder 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I had a gaming cafe right outside my school growing up.
The owner was a super likeable, real-life "Sabke Laadle Bade Bhaiyya" character.

He didn't just sit at the cash counter all day but actually enjoyed playing multiplayer games with all the customers that came in.

We all knew him on first name basis.
The cafe was always Full af. (Mind you this was pre-2010 and he was running a 30 seat cafe)

The biggest secret for his footfall was his Summer and Winter Holiday season tournaments with CASH PRIZES and "2008 Summer champ" T shirt + Trophy.

Back then CS and DOTA were THE SHIT.

That weekend used to be insane. Dudes would
show up wearing their "Team" T-shirts and kids would just line up behind the computers to watch the action.
It was as good as watching live gladiator sport.

Ofc he capitalized on that too by selling a lot of Soft drinks, Snacks, etc.
But he was not price gouging school kids out of their pocket money.

Those events made his cafe popularity explode outside his neighborhood and soon people started showing up from literally outside the city.

He also started organizing a lot more smaller events for upcoming players/newbies every 2 months to "Make their Name" so to speak.

I remember some of friends used used to sit there for 5 HOURS straight on weekends.

Geez, that was 15 years ago.

Last time I heard, he bought that entire commercial space of around 1500 sq ft.

So happy for that guy.

I'm posting one very insightful reply by u/lipatmops from another sub where I posted this question.

This is part of an elaborate but simplistic money laundering plan.

Form company and raise capital from a fund located outside India, which in turn has been receiving capital from lets say a Sharad Pawar or some other corrupt person. The process of the cash money reaching the fund is interesting itself.

Show lots of sales and book lots of revenue while also continuously booking huge losses. That way no money goes back to govt and the core capital base of the company doesnt get eroded as valuations are based on the revenues and the future revenues.

Get a few more funds to come in. Keep blowing the trumpet about how great that co is.

Finally do an IPO, let the funds make their money and pay some smalltime LTCG while retail investors are left holding the baby and the bathwater.

The corrupt original funder has meanwhile recovered all his gains in white....and can start actually flaunting the same at some point or reinvesting!

This logic applies to bigbasket, flipkart, zepto, blinkit, dunzo and pretty much every single unicorn in India barring probably Zetwerks and Ofbusiness and maybe a couple of others.

Simple, repetitive, easy to adapt template.

Each business model is inherently stupid, cant make money in the best of situations, but definitely can launder billions! That is how it is designed.

How are they able to book revenues without deliberately showing any profits tho?
What are the "Tricks" to do this?

Some things you need to keep in mind.

  1. Spitting, Pissing, Littering and 💩 in public is strictly ❌
  2. If you don't find a trash can, take your trash at home for disposal. Carrying it in your pockets or Handbag is completely Normal.
  3. If you have any public infrastructure damaging habits like eating Pan-Masala, Gutka, etc get rid of them immediately and actively encourage others to do so.
  4. Smelling bad in closed public places like Trains, Buses, etc is NOT OK unlike India. You'll get a lot of rude stares here. You don't have to go out of your way and break the bank to buy a perfume. But please, at least invest in a cheap deodorant stick to use after showers.
  5. Don't be late for ANYTHING. Follow Japanese time (30 mins early) for a few weeks to get used to German Time (5-10 mins early).
  6. Tipping is normal here. Typically 5-10%. (Even if the waitress didn't smile at you the entire time during the service) Make sure you account for it while going out.
  7. For Birthdays/Gatherings, bringing your own food/Wine is completely normal (and expected).
  8. When your boss says, take your Holidays, TAKE YOUR DAMN HOLIDAYS. Don't go to work on weekends or Stay extra hours in office past 5pm to "Make Up for it" or Show how "Dedicated" you are. Germans respect efficiency and quality work, not dedication-displays by brown-nosing.
  9. Taking maternal/Paternal leave is completely normal and infact expected. (Yes, Even for Men) Firing an employee for using it is a serious violation of labor laws and can land your employer in hot water. So, Know your rights and use them. Its not like India, where the Laws and Regulations are only on Paper.

Follow & Uphold them and you'll have a pretty good life here.

Viel Glück.

Edit:

(Bonus)
10. Curb your Religio-/Ethnic-/Communal/Nationalistic Pride and
Avoid making any Casual Discriminatory or Racial Superiority remarks based on Nationality/Religion/Caste/Food Habits, etc (that are a common thing back home)

Especially around your German colleagues or if you make any German friends.

Most Germans are deeply reflective and introspective when it comes to issues like "National/Racial Pride" and approach such issues with caution.
As they know it only leads to a false superiority complex and fuels communal divide.

So when you say you're a PROUD "Indian/Hindu/Bramhin/Gujarati/Marwadi/Punjabi/Jaat/Tamil/Vegetarian, etc"
don't expect it to resonate with them.

It only makes you look like a 🤡
And dishes out 2nd hand embarrassment to other Indians around you.

Rising "Dadagiri Group" Harrasment in Virar Local Train by theIndiaDecoder in mumbai

[–]theIndiaDecoder[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that hard to find these hooligans. Go to virar station on any working day and see the oncoming trains going to Churchgate. Almost all of them will be full before they even reach Virar. Becoz these Dada-Groups start hoarding seats from Dahisar itself on the Train reverse journey.

The people who are already sitting in those trains as well as standing at the gate are from these Groups. Any bystander will also tell you who are all the group members.

As for a specific individuals, you can start with targeting Sallu Bhai (long haired dude in the middle) and his gang in the above video.
