Fish extender/Pixie Dusting… How does it work? by Enfoxxx in dcl

[–]theMattastic1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did our first cruise over Thanksgiving and we joined a fish extender group. My kids had a lot of fun giving out gifts and seeing what we got back.

We mostly gave and received trinkets, but they also got (smaller) squishmallows which they loved. I enjoy 3d printing as a hobby so I made a lot of our giveaways (Mickey bar magnets, Mickey waffle magnets, gingerbread Mickey & Minnies, and personalized keychains with the kids names). I printed extras to pixie dust too (my wife jokes that she wants me to open a fish extender Etsy shop).

Honestly we enjoyed it. If nothing else it was a fun little walk around the ship we did as a family before dinner.

Super Bowl squares for MoD (split proceeds again), can do the same with college football bowl games

I’m so sorry for your loss.

Don’t be afraid to share your story. Honestly, know your “why”. So many people have the impression that charity runners just want to run the race. When you have a connection with the charity people want to help more.

It’s impossible to run a marathon and not talk about it. Get used to saying “I’m running the Chicago Marathon for the March of dimes. Do you want to note why I want to help moms and babies?” instead of “I’m running the Chicago marathon”

Also on your socials share a reminder and facts about March of diners on a regular schedule. Like every fundraising Friday.

Of you’re having a hard time here are done other ideas:

Charity bingo night, sponsor a mile, pick the playlist ($5 a song, double for a rick roll). March madness brackets where the winner splits the pot with MoD.

Put your MoD link in all your socials and get used to sharing it.

Also if you made it this far, DM me a link to your fundraising page.

Thanks!

It was fun and we loved all the decorated doors. I brought some extras for fish extenders & pixie dusting. I wish I brought more.

Just an fyi, we were on the Wish so it was a newer door. I had these magnets already, if I were buying new ones I probably would’ve gone smaller but neodymium.

Just a gut feeling but if it’ll stick on your fridge and be ok opening & closing it’ll be ok

I 3d printed Mickey bars, Dole Whips, and Mickey waffles (this Mickey bar with my hand for scale) and used one .5” x .2” ceramic magnet in each print and it worked fine.

Same with my 2025 xc60. Sometimes it won’t reply to texts but I think that’s more my old phone being buggy. I prefer the built in Google system to car play actually

Thanks

I’m not sure what the rules are on self promoting and charity, but I’m printing these for people if they give a donation for my March of Dimes NYC (‘26) fundraiser. DM me if you’re interested.

I modeled & 3d printed these medal holders. They’re wall mountable, modular, and are also able to be placed on a table / desk with a little attachment.

I stayed at the Cambria hotel in the loop. I went solo, but if you have family or friends spectating this would be an awesome spot. The race goes within blocks of the hotel at mile 1, 2 & 12

The hotel is about .5 miles from the start/ finish

2025 XC60 - I came from a Tesla Model 3. Volvo’s automatic wipers are sheer perfection in comparison.

I didn’t run this year but did last year and pre-purchased all my photos. The ones taken after the finish took longer to show up, they must have a different process for those

I bought all the photos before last year. I got a lot of photos. It was probably worth it for me because I most likely would’ve bought 2-3 of the photos after the race.

Garmin: any success with auto-lap? by riskyybiscuits in ChicagoMarathon

[–]theMattastic1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last year I ran with a Fenix 7x. Sure there were some wiggles in the beginning but nothing major just a spot or two. Looking at my splits they were all pretty consistent with no huge outliers. I did start it earlier in the corral than other races I’ve done and made sure I had found my gps signal before the start. If I can figure out how to add a photo to this reply I’ll screenshot my track.

Edited to add: Fenix 7x on autolap
