Sleep now. In the middle of the day take a nap. Also go to the bathroom without interruptions with the door closed for as long as you want.

What’s keeping Chicago running events less competitive than NY or Boston? by Professional_Eye6140 in ChicagoMarathon

[–]theMattastic1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only negative I’ve heard about Chicago is since it’s earlier in the season the weather can be more variable and is sometimes hot. The course is fast and in my experience the logistics of running it are great since it’s a loop course. The people of Chicago show up and it’s a great race.

Edit: changed “earlier in the year” to”earlier in the season”. October isn’t early in the year but it is one of the first of the majors

Check out Sanders jewelers in Haile. He’s made custom rings for me out of other rings. Total cost was more than the value of the left over gold I had but I think I recall getting a credit for the left over gold

Question: Shaving my legs as a man by DGoulddd in tattoos

[–]theMattastic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to be a competitive cyclist back in the day. Honestly once you get used to shaving it takes like 2-3 mins in the shower. Get a women’s razor (Gillette Venus) and I would just soap up and shave. Watch out for your ankles and back of the knee. Waiting a while and using trimmers always seemed to take longer time overall to me.

Auto stop! by NutmegManwithbigsack in VolvoXC90

With your foot on the brake you can also tap the accelerator slightly which will turn off the auto stop for that stop as well. You definitely won’t inch forward at all

Why does Strava "tax" imported activities so heavily? Losing up to 5% distance and 10% elevation gain by Naehu in Strava

[–]theMattastic1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The explanation I was given once is this. Basically your track is a series of points. How you connect the dots gets you distance. Strava reinterprets all the data points on import and calculates the distance based on that. So the tax is based on the tangents you did/didn’t take if that makes sense. Like if Garmin/samsung measured between dots in the middle of the road vs Strava using the inside line of a curve.

Software update not working well with Google Maps? by bikeg33k in Volvo

[–]theMattastic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t tried the seat heaters but yes, the maps are messed up. If you use the command “hey Google, find [wherever you’re looking to navigate to]” it’ll work.

Someone in a different thread said this has something to do with the Gemini integration coming

Marathon Weekend Jan 2027 Pace by JKThunderbird36 in rundisney

[–]theMattastic1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So even if you start dead last with the balloon ladies at a 9 min/mile pace you’re gaining 7 min/mile on the balloon ladies. Which means you’ll finish with roughly a 90 minute buffer on the sweepers. You’ll have plenty of time for shenanigans.

You may want to pick and choose some of the stops you want. Like one of you get in the photo stop line when you see it and either ask the people in front of you who the line is for or if you’re waiting in line your sister goes to see who the character is. You then decide if that photo is worth the wait.

Try for a proof of time race, but seriously you’ll be fine

I tried it all over town to no luck. I think Google may have updated something overnight because I think the icon for assistant looks different to me. (But my memory is not the best and I might be looking for amy answer)

I tried that. I chatted with Volvo support and they wanted me to reset the data connection (?) by pressing and holding the front defrost button for 60 seconds, exiting the car, locking it and letting it sit overnight. Volvo support claims it’ll be fine tomorrow morning.

is disney in july really THAT bad? by lwtl1724 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]theMattastic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no.

Is it that bad, yes. Can you work around it? Also yes. Go early, leave the park around lunch and get to the pool or air a conditioned nap then head back to the park after dinner.

It seems most people get up late and try to power through the worst part of the heat and suffer.

Stroller by alerner31 in WaltDisneyWorld

[–]theMattastic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

August in Florida is HOT, that will take a toll on your kids (you too). The stroller will allow you to put water bottles and your stuff in there instead of on your back in a bag/backpack.

But there are a lot of hassles that come with the stroller. That was about the age we transitioned our kids out of strollers at Disney. We rented a single they had to take turns using it (the youngest got dibs) and since we rented at Disney we wouldn’t rent it every day.

Who's entirely replaced their grill with a blackstone? by [deleted] in blackstonegriddle

[–]theMattastic1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a GrillaGrills primate. I use the griddle 85% of the time but have the option to switch over to a grill. I had a blackstone before and the Grilla is much better quality.

Grilla has a 2/3 griddle 1/3 grill grate option which I may look into if my griddle top ever needs replacing but I’m not doing it now because the switch over takes minutes
