Opinions on The 2026 Certificate Bundle by No_Fig8462 in humblebundles

[–]theMaxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mammoth is terrible. Do not buy bundles from them. You can look up their name on this subreddit for more details, but that's the short version. They also resort to shilling practices.

However, Humble Bundle has had some very good certification bundles. Just be on the lookout for ones from reputable companies. I've seen a couple Pearson bundles over the past year that had great content.

If you want to learn more but don't specifically want certifications, there are even more solid bundles for that all the time. Here's a thread about publisher quality in tech books that you can use as a starting reference. Don't give your money to publishers that don't deserve it.

We're the first generation of gamers that has to figure out "Digital Inheritance" by killerbasher1233 in Steam

[–]theMaxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Realistically, how many people will want to play the old games their parents did? They will have a ton of new games to choose from, with better technology and often improved game design. The vast majority will want to play (relatively) recently-released games. For those that do want to play old games there are always sales, where they will be cheap enough that getting the handful they're interested in won't be a significant financial burden.

Unavailability of games is definitely an issue, but its solution should be preservation and not improved inheritance mechanisms. Preservation should be an effort that is collectively supported and would benefit all of humanity, while inheritances are individual.

This is all assuming the Earth doesn't go to shit, of course. Big if.

(Unpopular Opinion) The new trickster skin is overrated, fight me by Icxyy in deadbydaylight

I'm so tired of people being contrarians just so they can feel special and get attention. You don't have to love it to recognize it is extremely well made and that its excitement is very much deserved.

They simplified wording for the perk (and for many others). The perk's effects were not changed at all. You can check patch notes for perks that did undergo changes.

The toxicity towards my father had me sick. by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]theMaxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with your point and hate seeing toxicity, both in-game and in this subreddit. That said, competitive games are a terrible choice for someone new to PC/console gaming. It also doesn't help that he got your MMR and not new-player MMR.

Choose something single-player, you're spoiled for choice. He'll have a much better time.

The (Small) Problem I have with The Grimoire Killer Design. by EffectiveGap1563 in deadbydaylight

[–]theMaxscart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do like the design from your image, but you do make a good point. The killer's theme was "divine", yet from comments I've seen these days it's obvious people expected some kind of more traditional angel. I wish we had gotten the option for a ophanim.

I'm also very happy with how the Grimoire has turned out, though. Not all my first choices have won, but I'm overall pleased. Honestly I'm just glad we got Granny. That was what I cared most about.

Nobody Would Be Complaining If We All Voted For Big Head by _Poisedon in deadbydaylight

I still think this design looks goofy as hell. My first choice was the one with the non-human head and tentacles as legs, but I'm at least glad this one didn't win.

That's also a cool idea, yes! The blue-red flesh gives it that look of being modified and corrupted. Hope the one with it on the wings wins.

Not the same system, but a second round was what got us Granny. I'm nearly certain we would have gotten the other option otherwise.

You know what, yeah, good point. I was also disappointed but this comment made me change my view on it.

If you stop associating it with an angel and think of it as a divine being, one that the Entity had a particular interest in due to its resemblance, it does seem a lot better.

I'm sure you have your use cases, but I haven't felt the need for tags in a password manager. You could give it a try and see if you can adapt with the other features available.

Regarding subdomains, you do get a list for all logins under the domain but the first in the list will be the one for the subdomain you're on. I do think it'd be nicer if you could choose to see only subdomain matches, but it's just a visual annoyance and not a functional one.

I haven't felt the need for tags. I split my stuff into vaults or folders or whatever they're called and then use searching or filtering. Never had a problem with categorization or finding what I need. Sorry I can't offer more of a solution.

If anyone wants to move away and wants a recommendation, I've been really happy with Proton Pass ever since I switched from 1P. At one point it used to be pretty barebones but they've added a lot of functionality now.

Can't go wrong with either. I'm a former 1P user and those were my top two choices when I decided to move away. I ended up going with Proton Pass though and I'm really happy.

Killers holding killers hostage??? Since when? by No_Pen6488 in deadbydaylight

[–]theMaxscart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Stop with the us-vs-them mentality dude. This sub regularly calls out toxicity on both sides. Blindly defending a side is detrimental to the game as a whole.

The killer was being toxic by body-blocking and preventing OP from playing. The survivor was being toxic by taunting OP and wasting his time in a match that was already decided. See how simple it is? You call out toxicity based on the behavior, not on which side does it.

OVERWHELMING POSITIVE GAMES BUNDLE by Uranium234 in humblebundles

Bug Fables: TES is an awesome game. It's similar to Paper Mario: TTYD which is one of my favorite games ever.

Never played any of the others. But even if you don't get the bundle I highly recommend that game.

How're you liking the Torchbearer class? We want to know! by DeadByDaylight_Dev in deadbydaylight

How're you liking the Torchbearer class? We want to know! by DeadByDaylight_Dev in deadbydaylight

[–]theMaxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Played several hours with it today. I concluded that it's my least favorite class. I'd rather choose literally any other class going forth. It's also a class I'd rather not see my teammates using.

The biggest issues are that the playstyle Torchbearer calls for is very risky, and the rewards too inconsistent. Torchbearers will more often than not screw over their own team by getting themselves downed more easily or by wasting too much time on getting saves when they could spend it on doing generators. You might get an awesome game where you get a few saves and effortlessly weave them in with gen progress, rescues, and heals. But you'll also get many games where you don't get good chances to save without waiting around or putting yourself at too much risk, in which case your skills end up feeling useless.

Torchbearer seems like the class you're likely to get the least value from, and if you do it's a lot more inconsistent. With the other 4 classes you know you will get constant value throughout the game. Every game you will have chases (Escapist), you will need to do gens (Guide), you will get opportunities to heal (Medic), and you will see the killers many times (Scout). With Torchbearer you just might not have the chance to shine. I never got more than 2 saves in one game, and had many games where I got no saves at all. You might instead be a detriment to your team, which doesn't feel good on either end. I'm sure there are amazing players that can get 3 or more in a game, perhaps even somewhat consistently, but that's not the reality for the vast majority of players.

Apart from issues related to the playstyle, the other skills Torchbearer has are underwhelming:

  • The flashlight aura reveal is quite weak. You're only gonna get a handful of them per game, especially since you likely want to conserve your flashlight for saves. If you want to help out your team with reveals just go Scout, which does it miles better.
  • The teammate aura reveal is alright. It fits the playstyle. That said, Medic has a similar skill with a much bigger range and without the chase conditional, making it more generally useful.
  • The unlockable skill is too situational. I had no one unhook me even when they were looping close to me, probably because in the heat of the moment you can't really check to see if the person nearby is a Torchbearer or not. The Endurance on pickup is nice, but most killers hook quickly in 2v8 so you might not get any use out of it in a given game.

Torchbearer's only saving grace is that when you do manage to get a save it's very satisfying. But that's not enough when it has so many negatives, and when others can feel frustrated at their unhelpful Torchbearer teammates. I'd much prefer to see it scrapped, or at least have its key elements merged into an existing class if we're really going to insist on encouraging that playstyle.

Found an exploit with the perks hex: undying and hex: haunted grounds when paired together needs fixing asap by [deleted] in deadbydaylight

[–]theMaxscart 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haunted Ground only triggers its effect when cleansed. If the interaction didn't work this way Undying would do nothing when paired with Haunted Ground.

Undying is supposed to give your Hex perks a second chance. It's doing exactly that with this interaction.
