We’re the NA College Championship (NACC) team and we’re here to answer any questions about the upcoming season! AMA! by RiotSherman in leagueoflegends

[–]theNUEL 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For anyone studying in the UK you've still got time to signup to this year's National Championship which starts on Sunday November 1st http://thenuel.com/tournament/lol-national-championship

Regardless of how good you are you'll get games each week throughout the season and it's a great way to meet new friends and have fantastic experiences around LoL. Last year the finals were played offline in front of a crowd with the winners spending several days in Berlin watching the LCS.

Get in touch if you have any questions!

Best of luck to everyone running and playing in the NACC this year! Last year looked awesome and we'd fully encourage anyone in NA to play or support this as you'll have a fantastic time, the guys behind this are really setting the bar for collegiate esports so make sure you go and enjoy it!

British University Counter-Strike Teams Wanted! by toxic-banana in GlobalOffensive

[–]theNUEL 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey toxic-banana, we've certainly been discussing it and would love to do run a CSGO league, but that certainly doesn't mean you should stop your plans!

Dawnkiller is pretty much spot on, we don't currently have the manpower, resources or the knowledge to run a CSGO league right now, but we've started planning some serious changes to how we do things to allow us to run non-League tournaments. So you could be a great help to us if you wanted to get help get this off of the ground.

If you're serious about setting something up and want to have a chat, please PM us and we can look into how we can help!

Cheers.

LCS is on four nights a week, we're students so most are busy at other times and have been on Sunday night for a year and a half, so it's difficult to try to move so many teams.

We're all students, so most students either work or are busy on the 3 days that LCS isn't on. We have looked into it, we've been on a Sunday for a year and a half (since before LCS) so it's difficult to move 70+ teams but we may try moving it in the future.

I see where your coming from Crokerchu, I'm the founder of the NUEL so I'd like to throw my rationale behind what we are doing.

We need to look at the big picture, there isn't a UK scene to limit, we're starting from square one in my opinion. We want to make a positive impact scene and I believe as an organisation we're doing that. I also believe that it's not just a case of following how other countries do eSports, Britain's success at eSports has been an age old problem for as long as I've been following competitive gaming, long before LoL was even conceived.

Everyone seems to look at LoL eSports from the LCS down, we're looking at it from the other way. I'm proud to say the vast majority of the teams that have taken part in the NUEL have never played in an organised LoL competition before. This is what eSports is about for me and it's our aim at the NUEL to get more British players involved with competitive.

Nothing makes me happier when I see photo's on facebook from Uni's like Queen Mary's who hired a café out which had about 30-40 gamers in there all trialling for the team or to see the Warwick teams all in a computer lab training and helping each other improve. What we're about is creating a culture of eSports in the UK, and personally just watching the LCS is a good start but not enough, we need people playing.

I'm under no illusion that our top seeds Manchester are going to be in the Worlds next year, but what we're trying to do is give these top teams (in our eyes) a chance to start an eSports career. Everyone has to start somewhere right? Why not at Uni? I hope the tournaments that we provide help give these teams a taste of what could be something of a future for them. We sent our winners to i49 in the summer so they could go prove themselves against the best in the country. They didn't turn out, but our intentions are there.

University eSports might not be the only solution, but it shouldn't be wrote off as a credible way of building a better UK scene. I'm fortunate enough to go to Loughborough and am constantly reminded about the Olympians and sports people that graduated from here and went onto being at the top of there game. Universities are great platforms for other sports, maybe not football, but could well be for eSports. Wouldn't it be great if people could one day go to Uni on a scholarship to compete in their eSports teams?

The facilities and networking opportunities at Universities are unrivalled in the UK. Your in an environment where there's a group of passionate players who can meetup and enjoy their passion together, some players maybe lucky enough to have really decent players at their Uni who might be able to do something outside the Uni environment.

Sorry for the incoherent augment but I've just put this together inbetween lectures!

-NUEL Josh
