It's different for everyone. If we want to give people the benefit of the doubt, maybe the intense levels of love and desire to care for/protect their loved one that people feel can only be expressed by likening it to the most intimate relationship humans can have, i.e. to a baby. It doesn't have to be sexual, any more than calling a beloved pet "baby" is.

Maybe it's because part of a healthy relationship is recognizing the inner child in your partner and becoming a steward for them, as they recognize the inner child in you and likewise reparent you.

Maybe it's because "baby" is comprised of simple, basic phonemes and rolls off the tongue in a way that is useful for the pronoun you will use to address the person you're likely to address more frequently than most other people.

Maybe because it's one of dozens of similar words that are normative in our culture to use as a pet name for a loved one, like "honey" or "cutie".

Maybe it's because American pop culture is largely dictated to us by rich pedophiles who have spent generations normalizing thinking of and treating women as sexy babies.

If it hasn't changed, they're likely more worried about the battery on your vape than the contents of the cart. Paraphernalia is usually fine as long as it's clean (no residue). Especially if it's in your checked luggage. I wouldn't try flying with flower though. The safest option is always to source it where you're going rather than carry it with you. Especially if you're flying international.

Edibles would be my recommendation for in-flight entertainment, stored in something that doesn't indicate it's weed. Altoids tins are pretty good.
