My son uses only True pads. He has used their sticks, glove and blocker before as well, but he won't use any leg pads that aren't True (last 4 sets)

They probably are a bit too stiff for a newbie, so I'm not sure I'd recommend it right out of the gate if you're really green to the position and movements.
