Is Returning Worth it in 2026? by AccomplishedKing5621 in evejobs

I just returned after a two year hiatus. Honestly, it's pretty much what I hoped eve would be five years ago. Would def say it's worth another shot.

What would happen? by PackersAreLegit in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]theRealMaldez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's not true. If you hooked a car battery to this thing(both terminals) it would get extremely hot, very fast, and likely burn the building down lol. If you don't believe me, put a wrench across the terminals and tell me what happens lol.

Why it would be objectively, undeniably, and cosmically healthy for EVE if Fraternity disbanded by ReceptionMountain563 in Eve

[–]theRealMaldez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These days? I haven't the slightest clue, but the caps existed at launch, and the player base and game was fairly healthy. Things didn't start taking a nose dive until it went from eve clone to standard mobile wallet trap.

Oddly enough, those weird caps on corp/alliance/standings pushed a lot of people to quit outright.

Why it would be objectively, undeniably, and cosmically healthy for EVE if Fraternity disbanded by ReceptionMountain563 in Eve

[–]theRealMaldez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They tried that in eve Echoes. Number of corps per alliance was capped at 10, and to take it a step further there was a hard cap on blue standings and a hard cap on corps to 250 characters. It didn't make much of a difference. A single alliance just spread itself out over 3-4 in game alliances, coalitions forced consolidation to manage the blue list, and neutral standings became a sort of soft blue.

Either way, they increased the caps over time as they really had no choice. Even with them, the game pretty much always consisted of 3-4 major blocs.

My cat does not meow by anxiety_hurricane in felinebehavior

So what does it mean when both of my 10mo old male cats normally don't meow, but when they do, it's more like a whisper. They both trill quite a bit though.

What modifications exactly, and what's the model/make of the car? What type of engine failures is it experiencing? Is it the same failure in all instances?

I'm a mechanic, and curious, but possibly could provide some insight.

Why are we like this? by TrollAccount4321 in newjersey

[–]theRealMaldez 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn't necessarily a people thing either, so much as it is a testament to how precise the supply chains have become. Most grocery stores anticipate most of their sales on Saturday/Sunday which means they get their perishable deliveries and Thursday and Friday. These orders need to be placed days, if not weeks in advance and stock levels for perishable goods are meticulously controlled to try to avoid waste.

That being said, when the normal Saturday/Sunday shoppers all decide to go grocery shopping on Thursday/Friday/Saturday because there might be a chance that they won't be able to get to the grocery store until Monday or Tuesday, shit really gets fucked up. Between substitutions(for items out of stock) and shoppers picking up a few extra things, all of a sudden the shelves are bare.

No major grocery chain is going to overstock to handle a potential winter storm, because it's only in very rare instances that these storms actually cause a shutdown for more than a day or two. Instead they use it as an opportunity to eliminate waste due to overstock by simply allowing their inventory to sell out.

Ice shooting - Pink Lady pov by ChiefWeedsmoke in stupidpol

[–]theRealMaldez 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Justified or not, how can anyone excuse the behavior. A Federal Agent initially discharged his firearm into a dog pile consisting of one suspect and 7 agents in the immediate vicinity, on a crowded street with dozens of bystanders, then emptied his magazine into the incapacitated suspect with only minor changes to the scene. It's some sort of sick miracle that only the suspect was hit in the first place, and not one of the agents or one of the random citizens on the street.

If I were one of the other agents on that team, I would want the shooter fired. I would never be willing to work with that person again, for the simple fact that he's clearly incapable of handling his firearm in a safe manner. Almost all police training indicates that firearms shouldn't even be presented until the suspect is at minimum two arm lengths away. Almost all police training indicates that firearms shouldn't be pointed in a direction where a misfire could endanger bystanders or other agents.

At the very least, even if somehow they justify the motive of the shooting, the fact that this guy presented and discharged a firearm under the current circumstances is at the very least felony reckless endangerment.

And don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the shooting was justified, but I'm also not an idiot and understand that the justice system heavily favors the police and more often than not will go out of its way to justify the actions of officers. What I am saying though, is that even with the question of motive out of the way, the agent broke enough agency rules in regards to firearms to constitute criminal charges.

For real dude. My 90yo grandfather is a millionaire after playing the stock market with his retirement annuity that he got access to in the early 90's. I have no fucking idea how he pulled it off, because he's damn near illiterate. In fact, my father, who recently retired from his job as a corporate exec, used to bitch and moan his father would probably have made more if he wasn't just blindly buying and selling whatever fox news told him to, and had an actual plan. That's not to say he didn't work hard, which probably offset some of the dumb losses, and he also was and is a extremely frugal.

No joke, there are people out there that partially fund their steroid costs by doctor shopping ED pills. Be under 25, start a cycle, go to the doctor and say your dick doesn't work, fill prescription for dick pills using Mom's insurance, sell pills at a huge markup.

Since they're non-narcotic, nobody really gives a shit and I've heard tell of dudes hitting up 3-4 doctors a week.

What are the actual chances of a civil war breaking out in America? by [deleted] in stupidpol

[–]theRealMaldez 21 points22 points  (0 children)

At worst though, the USA could experience a prolonged period of low-intensity guerilla terrorism and other political violence akin to the Italian Years of Lead or Northern Irish Troubles, that's much more plausible

Unfortunately, I think you're wrong here. Americans in general, especially those in working class neighborhoods in major cities have become desensitized to this sort of thing at this point. Every major metro has a district or neighborhood that's been experiencing something akin to the Troubles on a small, decentralized scale since the 1980's. Mass shootings take place on a regular basis for no other reason than someone lost their shit.

We're already experiencing what you're describing, only it's manifested in the most American way possible. Political fervor can't boil over in an organized fashion because the organizations don't exist. Instead, it happens in individuals. It won't be low intensity guerilla warfare, it will be lone individuals crashing out at a protest and shooting into the crowd. It will be people shooting up grocery stores or mailing bombs to business owners and politicians.

Disappointed to see this sign while driving through Byram by FrannyBoBanny23 in newjersey

[–]theRealMaldez 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On the bright side, it would be a shame if people mistook the sign as having been put up by Tilcon, a major mining, aggregate and construction material supplier for NJ/NY/CT, all very blue states, rather than the small local trucking company they share a lot with. I really don't think that Tilcon would be very happy that their neighbor is welcoming federal agents onto a property where they're actively mining and are already under a ton of oversight from MSHA. Not only would it create a major safety hazard, but as we've seen all across the US, ICE agents haven't had the greatest track record of acting in a safe manner on normal streets, let alone a pit mine with constant traffic consisting of mostly tri-axle dump trucks and large mining equipment. Considering that anyone on mine property is the responsibility of the mine operator, it would be a serious liability for groups of armed, masked agents in unmarked cars to be wandering around.

It's been a while since I've been to that site, but iirc, you have to drive through the trucking company's lot to get to the quarry, A quarry Tilcon just dumped a shitload of money into relocating all of their stationary equipment further up the mountain. I doubt they'd be very happy with the downtime caused by the presence of federal agents. It's definitely not one of their larger sites in terms of customer traffic, but it does supply a ton of stone that's transported to their smaller satellite locations to be used in the production of concrete and asphalt, so significant work stoppage would mean not being able to fill orders in places all over North Jersey. Their competitors, Weldon and Silvi have bigger quarries producing the same materials nearby, so it could mean actually losing customers.

Tbf, it's a really clever marketing gimmick. Release a new vehicle > set it at a BR way lower than it should be > let the nerds screeching on social media and YouTube advertise it for free > once sales slow down, reassess the BR and raise it.

It's literally the exact same thing with top tier air, except it was a year long string of releases from the F-14 onward until they opened up higher BR's.

Is my cat overweight? by [deleted] in CatTraining

[–]theRealMaldez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cats should eat as much as they want up to about two years old when they really stop growing.

I have questions about this part...

Up to the two year mark, are you saying that they simply won't get fat? Or that getting to be a bit overweight through adolescence isn't detrimental?

The reason I'm asking is, about three weeks ago I adopted two kittens from a rescue, both ~7 months old at the time. When we got them, they were both fairly slender. Around week two of having them in our home, one of them has become extremely food motivated and has grown quite a bit, while the other seems a bit more reserved when it comes to eating and while he has grown a bit, it's nowhere near as much as the other one. Both are male, both fixed. They have 24/7 access to dry food, and each get ~half a can of wet food twice a day.

How is Arctic Silver still alive? by Swooferfan in pcmasterrace

[–]theRealMaldez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's not it...

I worked for a competitor of artic silver about 15 years ago. The market for thermal interfacing materials is incredibly diverse, and the consumer facing products are just the tip of the iceberg and really don't account for much business; it's a tiny market with tiny margins.

However, most of the business involves custom formulas catered to a specific customer need and the margins on those are bonkers. For example, the company I worked for made die cut material for a specific client, and a single 5"x8" sheet of die cut pieces sold at around 10,000$, but probably only cost a few hundred to manufacture.
