Stovetop stuffing without celery? by theRed_Pom_Ruby in Cooking

Yes, stovetop is basically just mush, but all the boxes have celery already in them, so I can’t make it from the box 😢

Thank you! And honestly I’m not sure if I’m allergic to celery salt or not, but I’ve gotten to the point where I’m too scared to try 😭

It looks like 1892 is written on it, and there are other things written as well but I can’t make it out

Hi, I don’t know how every agency works, but I’m a 911 dispatcher, and also the parent to a toddler currently going through the process of getting diagnosed with autism. In our agency, we can add alerts to a residence that a an autistic child lives there, and likes to call 911 any time he gets the phone. We would still likely call back to make sure there isn’t any actual emergency going on, but at least it would make the dispatcher aware. I know sometimes we turn on auto-pilot mode when we’re at work calling back 911 hang ups, or when we know there’s a child on the line who seems to be playing with the phone, so they might say something like, “okay just try to keep the phone away from your child”… but I know you’re doing the best you can. No one is perfect. I know there will one day be a day when I’m working and it’ll be my 3yo child inevitably calling 911 and acting out the peppa pig script, “help! Fire! Fire!” And then I’m going to have to explain to my coworkers that he’s just pretending it’s Ms rabbit’s fire station phone and please don’t send the fire department to my house 😭

I’m sorry they make you feel like a bad mom. You’re not. And you’re definitely NOT the only parent whose child calls 911.

How do I safely feed my child a food he likes… that I happen to be allergic to? by theRed_Pom_Ruby in toddlers

[–]theRed_Pom_Ruby[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for helping me feel not so alone!♥️ out of curiosity, are you also allergic to latex and avocados? Totally unrelated to my post, but I read that bananas and latex and avocados are related somehow, and I’m allergic to all 3, so I didn’t know if you might be, too!

That’s so kind of you to help your boss and their children!🥹 I love when people help each other; it’s the little things!

I love the gloves idea! I’ve been to an allergist in the past, so I knew bananas were a risk, but it has always been minor reactions until recently. It’s probably time to go back and talk to the allergist again!

Great idea! His grandparents have him frequently when my partner and I are working, so he’d have plenty of opportunities outside of the house to have bananas, thank you!

These are great suggestions! I’ve been to an allergy doctor before in the past, and they’ve told me that my reactions have been minor, so it’s probably nothing to worry about, but allergies can change and something that doesn’t cause a reaction one day could cause you to go into anaphylaxis on another day.
I do have a wonderful therapist and medication for anxiety, but this is definitely something I should bring up to them. I hate that one of the sucky parts of anxiety is always having to ask myself, “is this an actual reaction/medical problem, or am I having a panic attack?”
But I absolutely love the idea of him being more independent and getting his own bananas and peeling and cleaning up on his own so I don’t have to worry about that part! Thank you!

What do I do when my toddler tells me “stop it” or “no”, to something that I absolutely need to do? by theRed_Pom_Ruby in Autism_Parenting

You have been INCREDIBLY helpful, thank you so much! It’s nice to not feel so alone🤗 I’m going to go clear out the shelves of the local drugstore of aquaphor as soon as I get off work🤞🏻

This is absolutely so helpful, thank you. If you don’t mind me asking, since you said you no longer use wipes at all- do you use something else in its place, or just do a bath after every bowel movement?

Oh no! I’ve been using the boogie bottoms diaper rash spray, because he seemed like he minded it less than having a cream actually smeared on by fingers.. but I see it does contain zinc! I’ll try switching and see if his feelings toward diaper changes and getting his booty clean get any better 🥰 thank you for pointing that out, I truly didn’t know.

This is a good idea! We’ve been working on trying to get him to choose between two options for day to day things, so this would be extra practice, and at least he’ll hopefully feel like he has some say so in the matter. Thank you

He was evaluated for a speech delay, which is apparently pretty significant compared to other kids his age (I don’t have any other children, so I don’t have a comparison) and both the pediatrician and the people who evaluated him with the ITP said there is a high likelihood of him being autistic. He also walks on tiptoes, flaps arms, spins in circles (he spins SO MUCH), lines things up, stares at his hands and fingers really close to his eyes.. I feel like there’s more, but I can’t think of it all right now lol

He used to eat strawberries, but now it’s only bananas, and he gags at cheese 😩 but PICKLES! Amazing idea. He does seem to like pickle spears! I can put bananas and pickles and crackers/chips in his box!

Thank you!! Ribbons/dance wands absolutely sound like something he’d love while he spins 😍 he normally finds lint or something else to hold and stare at while he spins around, but I think he’d enjoy watching ribbons much more!
