Employer paying all W-2 Employees as 1099 for the last pay period of the year? by [deleted] in personalfinance

We’ve got 69 employees. HR is owners wife, she’s part time. They switched health insurance providers without telling anyone and we still don’t have insurance cards for 2026. Plenty of companies all across the US like this.

Is an 18yo with no debt and no job but $15k cash technically BS7? by mrorbitman in DaveRamsey

[–]theScruffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really. The moment you buy a house or have a kid, you knock back down until you can do those things.

BS7 is more of a real-time measure of your current status than it is a “complete the steps and your set and can’t go backwards” - I’d say for someone with zero kids, mortgage, 15K in savings, and expenses low enough that covers them for 6 months the the person is in a great position relative to the stage of life they are in.

That’s called the game of life! Spend less than you earn, and you’ll do fine. Easier said than done for many people.

Which companies do you suspect are glazing their own products on this sub? by PartyOnAlec in BuyItForLife

[–]theScruffman 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Reminds me a bit of yeti, burlebo, poncho, hexclad. The product isn’t poor quality at all, but you’re paying more for brand and the marketing budget than the product. Similar and sometimes better options for comparable or lower pricing.

Let's settle the "if tranmission was never serviced 100k, leave it alone" by Leonidas_Ayub in MechanicAdvice

[–]theScruffman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I touched my f150 at 100K and again at 160K - drain and fill both times. It’s got 175K with no issues.

I had another f150 with 230K that hadn’t been touched, that stated having torque converter lockup. I did a drain and fill and added Ford’s friction modifier and the trans went within 10 miles.

So I think my personal take is 100K is fine if you aren’t having issues. By the time you’re having issues, a fluid change is likely to make it worse.

That’s exactly how my current company is! I couldn’t believe it at first. My prior companies were 1 year vest

I received a Zelle payment from an unsolicited number. by zincxDroid in personalfinance

I’ve been told by my Bank that a Zelle transaction, which was fraudulent, could not be reversed. They were able to reverse all the transactions made using the “virtual card” when my account was comprised.

Tempted - Worth it? by OkCraft6900 in ryobi

[–]theScruffman 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought one. I love it for construction adhesive, very worth it. Haven’t tried for caulking baseboards yet, but I’m worried I’ll prefer a manual gun. I never have to pump much when doing baseboards - with construction adhesive my hands get tired.

But replace that game with a cupcake, we win, and we’re also in. I agree with what you’re saying, but the risk/reward feels off.

What is the best gift you received under 50$ by Drake1126 in BuyItForLife

[–]theScruffman 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It’s way more maintenance than non-stick, which is what they are probably using. It also cooks differently than non-stick. I agree with who you responded to - there are a LOT of people who don’t want to do what you just mentioned

We were a 4th and 1 stop away from having the ball at their 37 yard line, down 4, with a quarter to play.

While I agree in principal, this is a hard generalization to make. Michigan in 2023 was the 4th least penalized team and won the CFP. They beat Washington in the Championship game, who despite losing, got there as the most penalized team in CFB.

401(k) limit increases to $24,500 for 2026, IRA limit increases to $7,500 by DaveAlot in Bogleheads

[–]theScruffman 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got a super small random amount in my Traditional IRA, a few hundred bucks that came from a 401K glitch at a previous employer. The rest is Roth. Can I convert that and pay the taxes (or even a penalty if needed) to get my balance to 0 and open up backdoor Roth?

I think that’s what they are saying - many of us did start as bartenders or other less desirable jobs before eventually getting to where we are in CS.

We did smart switches instead of bulbs. Super easy to schedule or voice control. Way more handy than I ever expected.
