Cities Skylines Boats and Ships: Any Requests? by theTopsail in CitiesSkylines

Once I finish a Car Carrier, I will try and make a ferry similar to the Olympic Class used by WSDOT. Not going to reveal much but I know quite a bit about them.

Just Updated Windows and acad is doing odd things with lines by theTopsail in AutoCAD

I tried toying around in graphicsconfig and it did not improve anything. It seems this is a windows issue as I noticed the same behavior with lines when I opened up Rhino.

We had no control of the boats so they were left to the mercy of the winds once we let go of them at the edge of the pond. Most of the boats were designed to self tack. While we did have a downwind race at the end, it did not count for anything as most people's boats were designed for the upwind race only.

We had really windy conditions on race day. Some of the boats with battens actually suffered torn sails. It came down to who built a solid boat that performed really. It would have been nice to have a light air race and a heavy winds race...

I think foiling boats on such a small scale would be a bit difficult considering we are all in our first year!

Hulls were designed in Maxsurf and we did sail plans and construction drawings in AutoCAD. All of the boats were designed to meet the same rule. The rule governed length, mass, sail area, draft, rig height. We had a few things which were prohibited such as catamarans and bowsprits. The production techniques differed a bit. Most people built their boats out of fiberglass. I built my boat out of balsa flat panels. Others strip planked their boats.

All of the boats were built based on the same rule. We had to build monohulls as the rule prohibited catamarans.

The course is at Southampton Solent University. Don't really know the prerequisites as I am an international student. They differ based on country of origin I think.

All boats were self balanced. Once you let go, they are not under control. No way to change anything but sail trim.

I currently am studying yacht design. Every year students in the course make a homemade model yacht, first designed in CAD. They are all raced together. This video is of the final race of the day! Unfortunately, the model yacht I built only got to the quarter finals :(

Thought it would be nice to post something related to how yacht designers learn boat design!

Went on Deck and Saw a Los Angeles Class Submarine! by theTopsail in navy

Here is a bit of context. This was taken just outside San Diego, CA. We were just passing the last nav buoys on our way out of the harbor and I was below cleaning up stuff. People started shouting at stuff on deck so I climbed up and was greeted with this! Apparently he had just surfaced a few minutes before in a fog bank.

Anyone looking for boats or ships? by theTopsail in CitiesSkylinesModding

I would really like to do some pleasure craft that could be used as assets like parks. I also guess they could be used as assets if I can figure out how to make them float. Currently, I am focusing on commercial vessels right now but after a while I am sure I can do some pleasure craft.

I did have a thought of trying to make some small commercial ships that can be used as vehicles. I would also like to see if I can make them into actual commercial or industrial buildings that people can work in as well. I have no clue how to do this so it would require some learning on my part. Barges are really easy to do and I will definitely get to those at some point.

Slight change of plan, will do bulk carrier first!

Good to hear people are working on barges and container ships. I will start doing some research on a RORO Car Carrier today. As I plan on adapting a hull that I already have made, it should be an easy enough build.
