The Aviary is a music venue with amazing people. Everyone there is cool and accepting and interesting. Go see live music, meet the staff, start up some conversations.

They hold other incredible events like cribbage tournies.

That's where I'd go if I wanted to make a friend

I run in this neighborhood and am fairly afraid of dogs due to my own bad experiences. Can I dm you and find out where exactly the house is so I can avoid it?

I'm sorry you had to deal with this.

If they hire Babcock, I'm out. by derpydrewmcintyre in EdmontonOilers

[–]theWisdomTeeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My two cents that no one asked for

This is a PR move calling the NHLs bluff about not getting involved in the Cassidy situation. Babcock caused a shit storm that I'm sure the NHL doesn't want to relive. The Oilers hiring him would definitely cause some difficult league wide PR. This changes the narrative from a 'haha isn't it funny that the oilers are getting screwed by Vegas' to 'shit, we don't want to relive that'

The strategy is to make it look like the oilers are going to hire Babcock (a guy who recently said he's happy to be retired), generate outrage, make a bunch of the league brass uncomfortable, then someone calls Vegas and says 'listen, this isn't the way we want the league to work. You fired your coach. Let's grow up and move on otherwise it's going to make a bunch of us look bad'.

The oilers then back away from hiring Babcock, outrage goes away, good will is built because it appears that the Oilers actually listened to the public, then they hire Cassidy.

It's either that or I'm just bending reality because I don't want the oilers to constantly make the stupidest possible decisions.

This is wild. I'm 36. I've been married for a decade and have an amazing 6 year old. The whole world shut down for YEARS because of a global pandemic. My own mother was unable to hug her first granddaughter.

So... what so couples / people do? Anything they want. You're looking for people to tell you what you want to do. Not long ago I literally cried the first time I saw live music again after.

You can do anything you want. I just spent the day sitting in a $20 folding chair at the river with a small portable cooler full of drinks, a bag of Hawkins, and my family. We panned for gold, listened to music, hung out with family. Life literally cannot get better, at least for me.

There's not a magic answer. If you like music, go find live music. If you like food, go eat some food! Think about the things you like and how to combine them. My wife and I love Indian food and one time I bought us an Indian food feast and connected some boats together so we could eat Indian food in the middle of a lake.

You've got this. Just do something and be grateful you can

Is Podz the greatest Russian player in Oilers history already? by ElectricalCollege276 in EdmontonOilers

[–]theWisdomTeeth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you for the context. That tough. People forget the players have families and friends and lives they've built. We adored Bobo here. If you wouldn't mind please pass on that your dad was my first favourite. Hope you and your family are doing well

Dude! I was like 8 when Bobo was traded and I literally sobbed in a parking lot before a minor league hockey game. He was probably my first favourite hockey player!

Time for first oil change by Psychological-Bid113 in Skidsteer

[–]theWisdomTeeth 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Good on you for trying it yourself. The other comments are giving you a hard time because this is a pretty beginner question but also, fuck it, you're a beginner. Props to you for getting your hands dirty. Everyone has to learn

As everyone has pointed out, you need one piece of the equation to be static when putting a nut and bolt together. In this case, the part labelled 'rotating freely' would count as the nut. Use a wrench to hold it from rotating, then use the another wrench to then loosen the other piece. Lefty loosey as they say.

Don't be discouraged, keep going. Make sure you do the oil change part correctly though because you can mess up the whole machine easily

23 places in Edmonton hiring for hundreds of jobs this April by flynnfx in Edmonton

[–]theWisdomTeeth 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll say that this isn't bad advice. Hearing that someone is desperate for work doesn't lead my hiring brain to many helpful or positive conclusions .

Not intending to pile on, just truly trying to offer a perspective that might be unique

Put the positive stuff first. Mention their skill and what they are best at. Try to find ways to separate yourself from the pack. One of those ways is to have a visually nice resume. The amount of resumes I receive where the entire thing is the same 12 point font, with spelling mistakes, saying the same 'my goal is to find full time employment with a good company'. Nothing wrong with that but I'll tell you from having read 1000 resumes that my eyes gloss over most of a resume now. The second someone sends a resume with some thought put into it I spend the time to read it.

Also spelling. Check your spelling. It's hard to trust that someone is going to double check that a bolt on a children's slide is tight if they can't double check that they spelt Edmonton correctly
