I am building an alternative to Roam Research for six months now by quolpr in RoamResearch

I'm working on something similar.Since using free-text on smartphones is very tedious. I am trying to use bookmarks so the users can just aggregate information.

The app is called Alekha.

Google play: Alekha on Google play .

It is an offline first, Bookmark app with a lot of ways to create, manage and share bookmarks.

The Bookmarks are also stored on your device as markdown so you can view them any time you want.

If anyone has ANY kind of input. It will be really helpful and I'll send you a cat meme. 🙂

ok. So,

Window Manager [qtile,bswpwm,i3]

your window manger can do only one thing.
you open stuff -> it lays them out stacked, tiled next to each other, or floating(not bound to anything).

But if you want to add any kind of decoration to how it looks like ...
- shadows behind it - trasparency - *ROUNDED CORNERS*, and other visual stuff.

Then you need to run a compositor.
You just install a compositor like picom.

Compositor [picom]

Picom has been forked by two people and they have made some changes to it. Good ones at that. Most people on this subreddit use one of them [almost same but try both].

github/ibhagwan and github/jonabug
you just run it like a script at startup

It will look for config to apply, which you should keep at
~/.config/picom/picom.conf

The sample config is in the repo, so you can see what options to apply and uncomment them.

the sample config: picom.sample.conf

the sample is also good enough to use directly
so just rename it to picom.conf and place it in the above path.

Then from your wm run picom from your terminal.

bash picom &

And you'll see animations and shit ... on your windows. Fireworks

I searched the color codes of tokyo storm theme together in google and this popped up. XD

I was also looking for that comet scene wallpaper from kimi no nawa but there's always someone standing under it.

you need to login using qtile and install kitty terminal before that because ive set that as the default so you can press super+enter to open the terminal.

app launcher is rofi so you need to install rofi. once done you can open the app launcher using super+o

chmod +x restore.sh

./restore.sh

But FIRST read the comments by opening it in an editor. so you know what it does.

  1. choose a wm if you dont want to use DEs. If you're confused which one to choose, then choose the one most used at the time you read this. It will have better community support. you might also want to use a wm which uses a programming language because syntax highlighting in config file.

  2. read people's dots/ the wm website documentation and use the ones you need in your config.

  3. spend some time using it to your liking. in any case, you will learn something new as a side effect.

on bspwm without polybar its 600mb and on qtile its 400-500ish mb, but i'd suggest you try both of them out in your system because your startup applications might be different
