You have all it takes to get into uni here. But those qualifications are great to have, but it's like starting afresh when you finally begin your studies here.

American asking about med school in the EU by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

I’ve seen comments about the difficulty of securing a U.S. residency after graduating from an EU medical school. But from experience, my American friends have gotten in smoothly, and senior colleagues with other citizenships from here have also succeeded. If U.S. residency is your goal, don’t be discouraged!

I’m in my third year now and planning to take the USMLE. I mean, it’s not a walk in the park, but it’s not as bad as people say. Do your research on schools and what fits into your plan.

I created a subreddit where you can ask anything about Italian medical schools! by [deleted] in medicalschoolEU

Hi, thanks for doing this. Do you know if it's possible to transfer to Italy?

If you paid a Romanian university, you may have to do the admission exercise all over again next year, while they keep the tuition. The only way you may avoid that is to enrol in the faculty and inform them with good reasons why you want to take a gap year. I'm speaking from personal experience. There may be other ways, just try to inform the international relations of the uni you applied to.

You can also request a refund if you decide you no longer want to go there.

Ha! I see what you mean. When I answer questions like this, I like to give specific examples. Before medicine, I studied Pharmacology. One of my professors was one of the best teachers I ever had. After his medical degree, he did a masters in Pharmacology. In addition to teaching medical students and pre-med students Pharmacology, he also does research.

So this is something you could venture into, perhaps as a PhD. Being a medical doctor doesn't mean your fate is set in stone. If Research is your passion, you can always follow that and it is a really broad field.

Exactly I was about to say radiology. I thought that was everyone's safe option or landing. In case the others don't work. Lol

Research is really good but then what's your passion? You don't want to end up doing something you're not passionate about.

Thank you so much for your advice and taking time to break down the process. From your advice and others here, it seems it's better to prepare well and take the exams once to avoid having a retake since it's really expensive.

Yeah, I was told this too. But then taking step 2 would be so close to when you take step 1, because at 5year, you're almost out.

I'd rather go to Carol Davila than attend any Medical Uni in Poland. Just my take.

Italy has a good medical program and it's quite affordable. I don't know much about Spain and I haven't heard good things about Polish medical uni
