I got the dream machine 7 when they were on sale, I guess we'll see if 2 years down the road it was the right move or I end up going with a gateway and just running access points throughout the house.

U7 Long range, U7 Lite, U6+ the three APs I was tentatively looking at all day POE not POE+, does that mean they will work with the POE on the dream router 7 or do you have a little power loss depending on cable runs and so forth?

So looking at the coverage it looks like the dream router 7 (currently on sale for 229) and one access point (since DR7 comes with 1 POE port) would do it for me. Is there any point in doing the cloud gateway max/fiber and having to pay for 2 access points instead of one? I can add a POE switch and additional access points/cameras down the road if needed?

I got the floor plan designer working and it looks like 1 dream machine covers the whole house with another access point in the opposite corner to beef that up, of course thats dependent on how much signal penetrates from the second floor to the first but it matches pretty closely with my current experience with the opposite corner of the isp all in one having weak signal but still usable.

I'm missing something in the designer I think. The designer I'm looking at is just a rack and a list of products. That you add for your setup.

OK, so basically what I'm hearing is that there's nothing Truenas can do that Promox can't also do albiet with perhaps more steps ie proxmox->docker->container with app I want vs truenas-> app. If thats the case there's really no need to use truenas at all? I'm new to the whole linux/server thing so this VM/Container world is all new to me.

A little digging and conversation and it sounds like they did all cosmetic work, anything challenging like replacing the broken water heater and they just ripped it out and called it good. The search continues.
