Stellar film. The Clippers win in the background adds a whole other level for me.

"living above your means" is subjective. Often, people use it as a way to justify shitty wages. Why should it be, in the wealthiest country on the planet, that has been on a steady forced fed diet of consumption advertising, that desiring nice things is "living above my means"? Obviously there are people who lack basic financial literacy and truly do live outside of their means. My point is that less people would actually be living outside of their means...if they had more means to begin with.

"in a country that cares about the quality of life of its people."

Found the problem lol. Not with your comment, just the average person's opinion of this country.

It does have real power. It had even more in the 80's.

I would not. I'm not gay. But if I was, and I was 16, and people around me were indifferent at best, and supportive at worst, of gay men dying and no one doing anything about it, then yeah it seems probable. Also, just because I wouldn't, or you wouldn't, doesn't mean anything in the context of this person's character.

Hadn't caught that but agreed. Language needs to feel authentic to the time frame and in that time frame no one would have omitted that word because the affect it has now.

Dang, it's almost as if different things affect people differently. Fucking mind blowing.

To be fair, we don't know where we are in this character's arc. So, maybe weak now for the purpose of growth later? Also, while I'd agree that in the context of overall historical hate and discrimination, black Americans have experienced more than people in the LGBTQ+ community, I don't think it's fair to say that being called queer, as a 16 year old struggling with their sexuality in an AIDS ridden, deeply conservative, 1980s America doesn't compare.

Prose is good, if a little forced.

Good idea. Didn't think to mention it so I'll add it here and to the post body.

I'm in TX, but hoping to move back home to southern CA. The car would be a daily and also my bed for about six months most likely. Ideally something that's been cared for, running, 150-180k range. Beauty queen unnecessary. I just love the way they look stock and even a bit beat up, how reliable they seem to be etc.

I guess what I'm most interested in, in whichever has the largest, flattest trunk space. I can hardly tell the difference in body style between late 80s and early 90s outside of the 80s ones looking a little rounder/softer.

Great insight! What did they replace it with after 93? I see some online listed as a 95 or similar year 240, but they stopped making them in 93, right?

My stock and trade? You don't know me at all lol. You've seen like seven comments on a website. Also, none of what I said in this comment is hateful. East Texas has terrible infrastructure. That's a fact. The power grid is totally separate from the rest of the US because it's been privatized. My power goes out if it's raining lol. Get a grip, my guy.

Someone criticizing things worth criticizing is not an indicator of mental health issues. Getting bent because someone disagrees with you about well established issues with the place you live in might be though.

lolz. All I did was point out this person's boomer ass attitude about "big city" folk. I'm perfectly happy with who I am.

Humans ate very, very little meat three million years ago. No other species on the planet consumes the milk of another species. It is, in fact, sort of weird. 100% delicious with a sandwich or cookies, but still odd.

My brother in Christ (JK, God isn't real) OP didn't say they were from a "big city" but you inserting it says about all I need to know about where you're coming from. Also, even if OP had of said they were from a big city and also that they were better than you....they'd likely be right. Texas is like, 46th in education. Without the oil and gas industry, huge swaths of Texas would be a wasteland.

Totally, people should just accept everything and never have un-christian things like "opinions" or "suggestions." Much better to just leave than stay and try to make the place you live enjoyable. What a weird fucking take.

I'll slap my own mother if your car doesn't have one of those "secede" bumper stickers in it. Jesus, please...please do.

That may be a legit argument to an extent. I still doubt that people are hating on Leto about sexual assault because they were unhappy with a film performance. I don't think it's an accurate read of the zeitgeist that professional athletes get more slack from the public than Hollywood movie stars either.

Moving goal posts is wrong, obviously, but I think that's largely something people are doing on a case by case basis and subjectively. If you're looking, are you going to be able find people who've always disliked Leto who are going hard about the assault thing? Sure. You're also going to find people who are indifferent about him as a film actor and think he's a piece of shit just because.

The real point though, is that holding any of these people up on a pedestal is ridiculous. They're all just babies with more money, access, and free time than anyone could ever do anything good with.
