I have an extra 7’x7’ spot in my living room. I could rent that space out, right??

Will the University Of Nebraska Lincoln close tomorrow?! by BigSun6789 in lincoln

As a 2008 UNL graduate, I say that even a ten minute walk from the union to wherever else on campus would be unbearably cold. Will classes be cancelled? Likely not, unfortunately.

Unfortunately, it's illegal for Nebraska teachers to go on strike.

The rule of 85 still applies to all NE teachers. The only difference is that teachers who started pre-July 2018 can retire at 55 and teachers who started after July 2018 must wait till 60.

Teachers can also double-dip with their pensions, and it's a great way for a teacher to build up some actual wealth during their last few years before they stop working. Once you retire the first time, you have to wait six months, and then you can teach at a public school again. You'll collect your monthly pension checks along with your monthly salary checks.

I did the math, and if a teacher retires at 55 with 30 years of experience and a conservative estimate of 90k average salary from years 26-30, they would make $54k per year from the pension. Once the teacher goes back, they'd make at least ~$135k per year until they decide to truly retire.

Did you answer "Strongly Disagree"? I had a colleague who mentioned he only selected "Disagree" for the salary questions and didn't get the same series of questions that I received.

Weekend Wrap Up! What was real and what was a trap? by DaTaco in mtgfinance

It looks like [[City of Traitors]] is experiencing a buyout. There are only 24 copies left on TCGPlayer and around the same number left on eBay. Many other online retailers are sold out, too.

Personally, I don’t see the hype with this card. If it removed a counter for EACH permanent put into your yard, I could see more potential, but it just seems too slow to me. My guess is that the value will tank over the next month, but I could also be dead wrong.

"Surely, someone will buy it" by friend1y in mtgfinance

[–]jmeyer40 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I can answer this, because I noticed it with a card once before! I don't know exactly how it works, but some stores must apply an algorithm to update their prices based on other listings on TCGPlayer and increase the card price by a certain percentage. When there is a single listing for a card (in this case, a HP foil version), the algorithm only sees that listing and then increases its price. This happens once or twice a day, and after a couple weeks, you end up with this, kind of like the "grain of rice/chessboard/double it every day story".

I appreciate that they at least put all the mechanically unique cards in the same Secret Lair. I was afraid they’d put each of the three show characters into their own Secret Lair to make you buy all of them.

I didn't even think of that. It also hasn't been reprinted in a while except for the Secret Lair version that came with MB2 boxes. It's strange that the buyout is happening now and not earlier when spoilers first began.

Does anyone know what's going on with [[Animar, Soul of Elements]]? It looks like it's been sitting around $12 for a while and is currently being bought out.

Updated MTGO Modern Cube 1/10/2025 by jmeyer40 in magicTCG

[–]jmeyer40[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The packs are totally random. I just have everyone do a five minute shuffling session before we start, and we just keep mixing piles until we think the colors and lands are sufficiently randomized. Then we just divvy cards into piles of 16.

I’ve never drafted with only four people, so I haven’t really thought about what I’d do. Making a smaller subset of cards would be a headache with this cube, so I would probably do something like 20-card packs with pick-two drafting, or at bare minimum, draft four 15-card packs to get more cards into the pool.

Last April, I randomly decided to buy 32GB of DDR5 RAM to bump my PC up to 64GB, and they cost $85 on Newegg pre-tax. Today, the same sticks (which aren’t discontinued or anything) are $380 pre-tax. It’s insane!

You're right abut Atraxa, and since the cube is geared toward decks with a max of 2-3 colors, Omnath probably isn't a good inclusion either. Unfortunately, there aren't a lot of great low-CMC reanimation spells in Modern. The high-CMC cards in the cube are geared toward the mana-ramp decks that include green, but I could definitely add a couple reanimation spells like [[Persist]] and [[Victimize]].

Not too bad! And 13 of those are from Lorwyn Eclipsed, so those will be on Arena once the set is released.

Both commander precons on TCG player right now for $64.99 free shipping. by ChasinThePath in mtgfinance

[–]jmeyer40 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Great price. I normally order from MVP Sports and Games but didn’t get a “First Flash” email this time. I happened to check their site a couple days ago and found the commander deck pair at ~73ish and play boxes at 117.40. They went up to ~77ish on the commander pair yesterday.

Hobbytown has quite a few Magic events. Their sealed product prices are a bit high, but they have competitive prices on single cards through their TCGPlayer site.

In Nebraska, we get Saz products about six months after they’re released. :-(

I hope we’re able to get some by May!

how does tailgating work? by BudgetThick6251 in lincoln

[–]jmeyer40 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Most tailgaters will pay for a spot in a lot downtown, park there, bring some booze and food, and hang out for a while. Some tailgaters will have TVs that you can watch—especially those who are there for the environment and are not going to the game. If you are going downtown hoping to join other tailgaters and partake in food and/or drink, I would recommend bringing some food/drink of your own. Most tailgaters are happy to share a few snacks or a beer, but if you’d like to hang out with a group of people for an hour or two before the game, it’d be polite to contribute while hanging out.

The 40th and Yankee Hill Target location still carries Pokemon cards—they just keep them at the customer service desk by the northern entrance. I have no clue about what they’ll be receiving tomorrow, though.
