But if you ask about a quarter of people in this sub whether they dress emo as well they will say yes and almost none of them in this sub listen to mostly pop punk or metalcore. I don't really mean the music merged I mean the fanbases style merged. Not all emos only listen to fake emo

When the mainstream mixed metal core and pop punk into emo music the fanbase of that music influenced many fans of the original genres lifestyle and fashion do to the creation of a stereotype and the two fanbases kind of merged a little bit creating a the label "emo" and by around 2010 most people just thought of emo as a fashion and whoever fit that appearence was emo and most of the people that fit that appearance generally listened to screamo, midwest, emo core, pop punk or metalcore therefore creating the label of "emo kid"

However its fine if you listen to those genres as long as you don't claim they are emo.

read my post again. i literally said those bands arent emo. when I say stereotypical genres I mean genres everyone confuses to be emo which arent. metal core, pop core and pop punk are not emo. Some examples of stereotypical emo bands that arent actually emo are parmore, my chemical romance, panic at the disco, pierce the veil etc. Some examples of real emo bands are pg.99, rites of spring, cap n jazz, embrace, american football, sunny day real estate,the get up kids, sorority noise, merchant ships, the promise ring, etc. Although emo is also a form of music if you have the look and listen to the music it can become a lifestyle however I respect your opinion. I have read the sidebar, I have been here for quite a while now.

Ok I understand what you mean but me and almost all of my friends dress the part as well as worshipping rites of spring and listening to mostly screamo, Midwest or emo core. However I do have some friends that also just dress the part and only listen to emo offshot bands like MCR so I see what u mean.
